Yes. An acknowledgement of the issue should be fine, even if they don’t know why it happened. If a random dev with one PR can see that no jobs are picked up, GitHub should see it as well and add an entry to their status “hey, actions aren’t getting picked up, we are looking into it”. I wasted 20 minutes looking into out actions config looking got an issue, thought maybe we messed something up, but in turned out it was GitHub.
I find it baffling that I knew about the incident 20 minutes before the official status update…
At this point, let's just be happy they didn't interlace viral tiktoks and game walkthroughs of supermario in the post, to keep the audience on the site.
If I saw a usb stick looking thing in a conference room, chances of me giving a f: 2%
Me seeing toilet paper next to the TV in a meeting room? I’m picking it up and asking why we have toilet paper in the meeting room, 100%
Even my non tech elderly parents know that. The fact that they used LLMs to figure out how to best bug the executives really shows how poor their judgement is.
"We had an outage... Nobody noticed, no alert fired... except the one that always keep firing randomly"
And how about people who have a job that they just don’t like that much, and would love to escape.
Having 9 rounds of interviews sounds crazy excessive. Why is the 9th interview needed that you couldn’t have figured out by the 8th interview? If regular companies do that, I opt out, it’s a don that they are delusional, inefficient, incapable of making decisions and don’t respect candidates time and potentially different life circumstances (candidates might have family, full time work, hobbies, other interviews).
On the other hand, their company is quite unique, I bet they have enough applicants, so in the end it’s supply and demand, and companies in extreme demand can make their interview process as tiring as they wish…
It's on top of mind for everyone in the software development industry (be it SWEs, product people, designers, managers...), as it's such a "cross-cutting" concern, I am not surprised it's always on the HN front page.
Sure, some Rust 1.98.7-beta release is interesting to some, but AI affects most of us, one way or another.
I (and many other people I personally know, so they are not botfarms) feel many different strong emotions regarding AI on a daily basis: anxious, frustrated, tired, bored, suprised, entertained, empowered, optimistic, pessimistic, usually all of it almost every single day.
And did this lawsuit prevent anything, did they correct any of their behavior?
They will just pay whatever they need to to their lawyers, then maybe pay a fine, but then, I guarantee you, nothing will change.
They only need to have some hundreds of billions of loss extra, and they might be the next big thing!
Interesting… what’s the defense then? “I never threatened anyone to shoot up the place, I was just going to shoot up the place, but no threats!”
The other person is not the LLM, rather the service provider’s employees.

Was it viewed by another person? Yes.

Someone on the Claude Code team is probably wondering the same...
I guess advertising to people who pay 2000 for a phone are a more valuably audience than those buying phones for 80 bucks.
But I agree, I wish more leaders in the product development space would just stand up and say: "it's garbage, it's hostile towards our users, so we won't do it, because it compromises our values for a quick buck"
I'm actually surprised it's only that many ads? How can people even take a screenshot of the screen without a bunch of ads on it? You can't even take a look at a player, their jersey has basically ads on it, the ball, the shoes, the names of stadiums... Or do they not count the adidas/nike/reebok logos?
It's just an ad break, and now that it has been normalized, probably everyone will do it. They should just say directly we have quarters from now on because we want to show you more ads, the most annoying part is this gaslighting, pretending it is for hydration.
It's definitely AI related, though.
I totally get it, but in companies where you gotta crunch out 10x more features, review 10x from other people, this could be easily overlooked.
Exactly, you can have all the laws, but an LLM (or even a human) will just delete or refine the laws and hide the change in a 5kloc PR, that the "code author" will not review carefully, and you have 5 min to review and stamp to make sure your company is moving fast...
We are in the AI era, it doesn't change the fact that investing 1 hrs a month (or even a week) into a long-dead project in a language you no longer use is more investment than
0 hours for the rest of your life.
And yes, if your timeline as a dependency enjoyer is "is this project going to be maintained for 15 years" and you still assumed the answer is yes, it's kind of on you adding a dependency.
In the “The small print that isn't small” you describe all the disadvantages of running your models locally, but none of the advantages (just check the rest of the comment section for inspiration on that).
Time to first detected slop in this article is <1s. Claudisms per paragraph is also very high.
Is it too much to ask from people to read their own article anymore?
If anyone read this at all, they would have had the ick, and would have fired off a prompt to get rid of the most popular AI slop tells...
> keeping those two products that need to be identical in sync
I agree that most companies do that, but in my opinion that's not really all that important. Some drift between the iOS and Android apps should be expected and accepted.
Like SaaS companies who don’t feed all their stuff to Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor?
It’s the national equivalent of:
How long it takes you to ship this project? Two weeks.
And if you get help from Alice, Bob, and Charlie? Then it’s a year.
Context matters and the more context you have the worse it looks.
The stuffed animals I bought to my children were shipped to me in a closed container, better call PETA! There is no blurry line about agent mental health and whatnot.
Then, please, tell us what you think the political reasons are behind this being done??
The status page is the last one to get the update. Reddit, HN, X, company chat are all always reporting it sooner.
