Same. And I recommend the audio book over the print. The format of presentation in the audio book and hearing Eckhart himself talk makes a big difference.

I am just a regular software engineer at a Silicon Valley company. I go to bed and wake up with anxiety on an almost daily basis. It all seems to stem from work.Psychologically and philosophically speaking, the root cause is not work, rather my own mind etc. but :shrug:I want to do a pulse check to see how common it is for folks working in tech, to suffer from this level of anxiety.

My company has "IC levels" 3 through 8.
5 = Senior Engineer, 6 = Staff, 7 = Principal. Not sure what title 8 gets. There is a "rubric" that defines the things an engineer must demonstrate in order to qualify for each of these levels. There is a similar system for engineering managers. What I find is that the managers' rubric expects them to do their day to day job well and promotes them for...

Curious what went wrong.
The few microservices we've built so far have been good at taking some load off of the monolith and its database, as well as at making sure that if the micro service goes down, only a small part of the customer facing app will be affected. The monolith and majority of the app would continue to function.

I'll start. I currently only know part of our architecture. Best described in terms of an API request's path:Mobile (Native and React Native) and web (React) -> Cloudfare with page-rules -> AWS ALB -> Nginx.
Nginx does (1) auth + (2) routes to Golang/gRPC micro services or a Rails monolith. We are a consumer facing software and our problems arise during periods of high traffic. Usually,...
It was funny how this was happening on Twitter around the same time when Celestine Omin was asked to balance a Binary Tree at JFK airport.
Not wrecking bank account shouldn't be the only concern. Wrecking relationships by being absent should also be of concern.
The company is in the process of moving to git now. Subversion met their requirement fine and so for the longest time they stuck with that.
Java, Tomcat, Maven, Spring (limited use), JSP, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, IntelliJ IDE, Jira (issue tracking), Bamboo (continuous integration), subversion.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It is encouraging to read about others in our field coping, and coping well with Parkinson's. Moving to more managerial type positions does seem like a good idea.
Thank you! Thank you for linking the study.
Thank you, your experience is very encouraging.

A friend, who is a programmer, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's. He is in his late 30's.Does any one here have Parkinson's?
How many years has it been since you were diagnosed?
Are you still programming?
What advice would you give my friend?

You are getting psds of iphone's own user interface...so that you can then put the mock up of your application inside it for say client presentation or to see how your app's design looks on the iPhone or to see if your app's design meshes well with iphone's aesthetics.

what if Uber/Lyft etc let you lend your car to drivers? So instead of sitting in the parking lot, an uber driver could be driving it. Uber/Lyft could background check the drivers. I wonder if it will be worthwhile for them to provide insurance against theft. The driver would also need to be added to your personal insurance I guess....the insurance companies might eventually come up with plans specific for this type of scenarios.

If you take anti-depressants, what has their biggest impact been on your life? Have they made you more productive? Have you experienced any drawbacks?(I am considering seeing a doctor about depression. I am not sure if what I experience is really depression. I have been wondering, maybe I have never experienced 'normal' as other people do. I wonder if they will help me focus better and be more...
Nah, it means 'nothing'. :-( But I am looking to learn React + Flux. I am a frontend noob, mostly because the spider web of JS and CSS code (plus the tens of JS frameworks to choose from) ultimately drives me nuts. But, React and Flux seem to be less spider-web-y and appeal to a backend developer like me.
