RS485 + Modbus

There are some hardlimits (like length, number of devices though)

Being in Europe, I would assume 868 Mhz. And the data rate depends on SF (spreading factor) used. https://docs.exploratory.engineering/lora/dr_sf/
LoRa is.. But LoRaWAN is an open standard, governed by LoRa Alliance.
Re:QEMU v4.0.0 released on Wednesday April 24, 2019 @07:02AM (#19737188)
Same here. Use it to build tools targeting arm architecture (rpi, etc) on a x86_64 machine, that too in docker.
Have been using https://www.home-assistant.io/components/emulated_hue/ for sometime. It does not use HA Cloud though (not required actually). With this, all the components registered in HA are emulated as hue devices for Alexa.

Note: I use Echo Plus, which has the abilities to discover devices. Not sure if this works with Echo or Dot.

You can always leverage existing MQTT based components https://www.home-assistant.io/components/mqtt/, by making your component MQTT compatible.

Adding new component is also relatively straight forward. For ex, have a look at https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/blob/dev/ho... and other components. You implement couple of methods of existing traits, in this case, SwitchDevice.

Plug: If adhoc peer to peer port forwarding is what required, try https://github.com/selvakn/p2p-port-forward (which uses zerotier-sdk)
if you want a dedicated peer to peer vpn, zerotier.com is great.

Re:Show HN: An etcd backed DHCP server on Tuesday July 18, 2017 @03:04AM (#14794763)
Sure.

This is the lock that Im using: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Electromagnetic-Door-Locks-Magne... . Its electromagnetic and not a turn lock.

And the actuator that I built to control the lock is something like this: https://www.tindie.com/products/Armtronix/wifi-esp8266-solid...

The callback script in the dhcp server pushes an event to a mqtt broker on dhcp commit event.

And all of these orchestrated by home-assistant.io, on top of which, we have also mobile and voice (alexa) integration too.

If it is for executing some script on successful connection of any device to wifi (and thus an IP is assigned), with dhcpd, it can be achieved with the following config:

  subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
    on commit {
      set ip = binary-to-ascii (10, 8, ".", leased-address);
     execute ("/usr/local/bin/on-device-connect", "commit", ip);
    }
  }
I have setup exactly this to automate stuff unlocking the door in my office (in the morning, whenever some one arrives and phone connects to wifi).

Edit: Fix code formatting.

Re:Shutting down Uber in India was unwise on Monday August 25, 2014 @12:12PM (#8222380)
A possible solution is prepaid, which is followed in a lot of industries (ex: telecom)

With Uber, you can prepay per month a certain amount with all the two factor authentication and just use it. I understand the complications like how can we authenticate the user when he/she boards and make sure the account has (enough) credit, etc. But I think they should be workable.

Is the changefeeds feature comparable with changes api of couchdb?

Shameless plug: https://github.com/selvakn/rack_phantom

Similar idea, but implemented without a server for rendering, with a phantomjs process. And only for rails/rack app.

Re:Project Loon on Saturday June 15, 2013 @12:54AM (#5884103)
The balloons are not going to move in one direction though. The video also mentioned you can steer the balloons, which means, there is way to keep them above the ground and not the ocean.
