News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Things I hope for:

- Oracle defaulting on its debt commitments.

- Anti trust action into Skydance forcing a breakup.

- Larry forced to cover the difference by selling family silver.

- Lanai going back into the hands of the people of Hawaii.

Just for the laughs and for forcing me to bear with some of the worst applications of all time.

You would think they would add a cellular modem to it now that they have their own, but no we get a touchscreen.
We had taps on Merkel, this is nothing!

Terrible company, such evasive statements. Seems ripe for disruption.

Surely they should be investigated by the local regulator.

Yeah calling these things a bug or technical issue is just bullshit.

And also it has help, it is unlikely it acts alone. Example Stuxnet. Israel has the talent so they are a convenient and willing proxy too for getting shady shit done.
It’s probably trying to disrupt the Russian GPS jamming satellites.

Veritasium did a video on it recently https://youtu.be/tz23G_UXCGA

Would be funny if Google drops Gemini 4 today.
Man the RSS feeds are busted too now :/
I wouldn’t count on safe Med passage, I think last month a drone attacked a ship in Egypt. And the channel to Suez isn’t exactly wide or out of range for Houthis.

GCC will have to talk to Iran now, there is no reasonable way out of this quagmire other than a regional accommodation with Iran. Talk about a regression but here we are.

If Dems win next time around they should repeal the AUMF at the very least. We cannot be at war at all times.
I’ve just been trying to get my hands on local compute period. I have this (perhaps irrational l) fear that personal computers will be increasingly expensive for the next half decade or so due to AI demand and I value having my own device much more now than just a chat bot.
The loss is tragic but I’m sorry GPS jamming was not a factor here. There was a NOTAM indicating it’s going on, the pilots should have been aware and it appears when they reached out with a request the jamming was stopped.

It was a visual approach at a moonless night at an airport in high terrain, this was pilot error unfortunately.

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Monday July 27, 2026 @07:38PM (#49077112)
Dario thinks of policy as if the Berlin Wall fell yesterday, he is so detached from the reality of the world.

The way the world economy is right now with coercion being the norm between countries, there cannot be a global body for anything, certainly not one that is based here in the US.

That is true. It’s a big corporate so I understand why purists dislike it but as a business it has done well.
I think it has had latent ICBM capability for over a decade now but the government hasn't allowed one to be created. Their pacing threat is China and to a lesser extent Pakistan, those are adequately covered by their current inventory.
Re:It was OpenAI that accidentally breached Hugging Face on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @04:43PM (#48998013)
Or to start another hype cycle. Not trying to minimize the capability demonstrated but another round of AI is coming sure would work well for OpenAI.
Re:Kimi K3 is now live on Thursday July 16, 2026 @03:06PM (#48938843)
Bloomberg has an exclusive today about how internal metrics on Gemini 3.5 Pro are not good enough, thus the release is delayed.

Re:SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @07:04PM (#47855946)
Ohh it’s not an acquisition, it’s right to buy later for $60B or we a work together for $10B. Huh?
Re:SpaceX says it has agreement to acquire Cursor for $60B on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @06:53PM (#47855793)
60 Billion for an IDE?

I guess back to Jetbrains it is.

That is insane, Block seems to be very poorly run. The headcount still seems bloated, they'll blame AI and layoff more people for their own incompetence.
Prediction market creators making the case that their existing is some sort of a market efficiency play is the most laughable thing I have ever heard.

SC made a mistake in the Draft King/Fan duel saga and has unleashed the worst kind of market, takes up may too much money and time especially from young people.

Re:1Password Raising Prices ~33% on Tuesday February 24, 2026 @01:06PM (#47140390)
That has to be the lamest use of “AI” to justify price increases.
Re:A Beginner's Guide to Split Keyboards on Thursday February 19, 2026 @05:49PM (#47080815)
I got the Kinesis Gaming split 5 years ago and honestly it has been a game changer. My wrist pain went away, takes about a week to get used to it but it has been a welcome change. I also feel like I can type faster on it.

Re:xAI joins SpaceX on Monday February 02, 2026 @07:33PM (#46864560)
xAI to cover X investors, SpaceX to cover xAI, us American public investors to cover SpaceX since it cannot go under for strategic reasons. Ultimate grift.

Well at least Jeremy will be happy!
Google kills Gemini is just hilarious.
