Re:PayPal to support Ethereum and Bitcoin on Monday September 15, 2025 @03:56PM (#45254222)
To answer your question, I hardly buy anything with crypto because there's barely support... Hopefully this is a catalyst for change.

I feel like this is the wrong question to ask. Instead try "why would someone purchase with crypto over fiat?". I prefer to use crypto for international online purchases because the transaction and conversion fees from my native currency are way too high. With crypto it's a one off deposit fee and then gas is trivial these days.

Wow, thanks. Also helps when the color randomization makes the website unreadable
It's funny and harmless, but it does make me less likely to use the product. Because I don't know where the line for funny and harmless ends. Would it be funny and harmless to install a keylogger alongside the software? Maybe I need better personal security practices but it's much easier to avoid anything with this kind of smell.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025) on Sunday July 27, 2025 @04:53PM (#44704596)
Love this idea. I like to use voice recording and transcription for the same thing, but having a text interface is nice for public spaces!

> I'd like to see no-code UX patterns that losslessly map onto the underlying abstraction. That way you can use the UX pattern until it gets too tedious, and occasionally dip in-and-out of the code-view in a non-jarring manner.

What are you describing sounds a lot like Saleforce and other CRM systems. Often the code implementation get hidden away when it's not something native in the no-code solution. Then "magic" happens and you don't quite know why until you dig into the code again.

Anything that involves time. Dance, music, gardening. I have too many existing commitments that when I actually have free time I have no energy left
Re:I Do Not Remember My Life and It's Fine on Thursday June 05, 2025 @10:31PM (#44197339)
I have this too, or something similar at least. I have the same issues around visual memory and first person memory.

I noticed it specifically when talking to my wife about remembering feelings and emotions. I have a lack of empathy (different to sympathy) and when looking back at past events I struggle to feel the emotions I was feeling at the time. I can recreate them using facts and things I understand but it's different to experiencing the same feeling.

The author of the article doesn't touch on this so I'm curious to know if they have the same experience.

I use this a lot! Thanks for your work and looking forward to the next one
I don't understand why an interviewer would ban the use of AI if they are allowed to use AI in the role.

The interview is a chance to see how a candidate performs in a work like environment. Let them use the tools they will use on the job and see how well they can perform.

Even for verbal interviews, if they are using ChatGPT on the side and can manage the conversation satisfactorily then more power to them.

Re:We're bringing Pebble back on Monday January 27, 2025 @06:21PM (#42846996)
Which phone is this? I recently got a Unihertz Jelly Star 2 as it was the only decent "small Android" option I found while researching.
Re:Most gamers prefer single-player games on Thursday October 03, 2024 @02:29PM (#41733462)
I also gave up on multiplayer and casually playing on Nintendo Switch has got me back into it. For me, it's a skill issue. I'm just not as good as I used to be. I play games on easy now so that I can blast through it quickly. Otherwise I'll (have to) set the game down for a couple weeks and completely forget what was going on in the game.

I have the complete opposite experience with Minecraft. My kids play peaceful flat land creative and it's the most boring thing to me. I'll take boss fights without weapons any day.

Re:Move Fast and Abandon Things on Tuesday September 24, 2024 @05:17PM (#41641012)
I love this but I approach it a bit differently. I don't think this is a good excuse to write bad or unmaintainable code. Sure some shortcuts are fine but it should be useful for the next person.

Personally I try to use free hosting services so that I don't have to pay to keep it running when I abandon it. (That could be AWS free tier or blockchain or IPFS etc). Use a public repository so someone else can find it when it's inevitable dropped. I always make sure to have good documentation so that once it's found anyone can get it running.

Re:'Dancing' raisins − a simple kitchen experiment on Wednesday September 04, 2024 @10:44PM (#41452999)
I accidentally stumbled across this same experiment last week when my son put some sprinkles in his soda water. Cool to know it works with raisins too.
Why burn the NFT? Wouldn't it be better to transfer the ownership of the NFT along with the physical item?
It's cost for me. Electricity isn't cheap where I live and when your house is poorly insulated you require even more energy for a heat pump.
For those that are curious it displays a Quora answer that states:

>Thomas Running

>Running was invented in 1612 by Thomas Running when he tried to walk twice at the same time.

It's actually quite and interesting post if you follow the link. Obviously it's not correct in the purest form but there is justification for this answer.

Re:Bitcoin Is Time on Tuesday March 02, 2021 @01:57PM (#26318945)
Yes. It's a common pattern on reddit (and probably other sites) to let people know your intentions, thoughts and feelings to give context to the content of your post

I've used this angular framework in the past with great success https://github.com/danielstern/cyo

Searching "cyoa" on github brings back a tons of results that you can filter through to meet your tech stack needs.

Personal, Banking, Work Place 1, Work Place 2, Junk (for social media) and then a couple others as spares

My key use of this is to manage multiple login sessions to the same site. Having a bunch of spare containers lets me do this in the same browser window. And I don't have to worry about closing them (compared to using private browsing)

A tall man stands outside his house wearing a fur coat. He is smoking
a pipe and he smiles at you when he sees you. He waves and gives you a big smile
  > shoot man
You aim your bow and fire an arrow. The arrow hits the man square in the chest.
He falls backwards and drops his pipe. His wife rushes forward and grabs the
arrow. She pulls the arrow out of his chest and throws it away. The man's eyes
   widen in shock
  > shoot wife
You aim your bow and fire an arrow. The arrow hits the woman square in the stomach.
She screams and clutches her stomach. She begins to cry and wail loudly. Her
husband runs forward and tries to comfort her.
Hmmm...
Equally I saw "dumb" as positive. In context, it was negative but the whole post was positive.

You can configure the refresh interval in the service response: https://refl.me/docs

Would be nice if you could override this client side as well.

I'm really conscious of sharing half my conversation with something. I don't even like talking on the phone in public. Not a fan of all these devices that are only powered by voice.

I really wish Google Glass had been a success.
