Not at all, the subscriptions have an adjusted gross margin of approximately 85%. Very profitable! The training is a different story though. How long will the subs last if they stop training? Also, why on earth would they put on the breaks and try to be profitable when they have plenty of funds and are in the growth stage?

I always bought on who I thought was best at attracting the best talent in the space, and for how long they could remain dominant in that.

It's also very damaging to under-value, I think OpenAI got hit hard with lack of compute and is still struggling.

I think most people who care or are tracking it would say we've hit it, and those who disagree just have their goalposts a lot more clearly defined and are quietly waiting.

I know firefighters and machinists heavily using it, the only places I see slower adoption is purely because of bad leadership- exclusivity contracts with certain providers or just plain fear.

People tend to do wonderfully at whatever metric they're judged by. I don't think the "tokens consumed" metric was a very good one.

EVs connect to people's home wifi and they are probably the most powerful compute on the network. You claim to be Infosec, yet cannot fathom any issues here?

You do not have a 40kg backpack. That's like the max rated load for one designed to haul elk or moose carcasses out of tight spots in short trips.
Multi-day backpacking trips rarely exceed 60lbs, and even that is way too much- the recommendation is 14–18 kg max for most people.

Re:US boy names that became girl names and vice versa
on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:50PM (#50341660)
It's super hard to keep track of, I have an app that's designed to help couples name their baby, and I always wanted to stay away from hard-defined gender stuff, but people still want boy/girl categories. So many are both, but to varying degrees. I ended up using a boy/girl/unisex selector, and had Jev tag all the names. It's especially when dealing with other countries, languages, and customs. At the end of the day, it's mostly easier for the user to just swipe left on a name rather than try to pre-eliminate it from their pool.

That's why ban was in quotes. They say it's not allowed, but they would rather take money than disallow the software. It's just how they choose to enforce their laws.
USA doesn't want the software present in Chinese cars (or things like TikTok and networking infra) and "bans"/makes it illegal. Instead of fining the Chinese companies repeatedly, they block it. Perhaps because there are viable alternatives within the country.

At google scale I imagine at least millions of times per day if not more. For what it's worth, here in CA it's just "English Channel" and I like that. I'm just saying that I don't see a way to do it perfectly every time, I agree that a little bit of confusion is OK.

Fair enough, I got a bit defensive and came off a bit harder than intended. I just get frustrated hearing a lot of comments like this then it turns out the people never even went in a Tesla for more than one Uber ride to an airport or something, yet they take every chance to spew hate. There are plenty of things that are not perfect about Tesla's but their acoustics imo are one of the best parts. I drive one daily and I've been in old and new suburus and it's crazy to me that they can be compared, but also I understand that there are many factors that could make significant changes to the comparison.

I'd skip the Tesla part and just have it be a car you made. I think it'd be easier to get that approved and it's more legal.

Definitely, and a lot still do. But buying a Tesla is like buying a BYD since they're the dominant brand they're likely to have better support. A lot of lessons were learned on the Nissan Leaf, Ford Lightning, and even to this day buying a Rivian is like buying a BMW in that you know maintenance/repairability will be painful.

Europe "bans" tons of American software, though for now they just use it as their main revenue source.

At the end of the day, it's the labor cost difference- both for assembly and other parts of the supply chain. Tesla at least is trying very hard to get prices as low as possible, but the things still have to sell. We'll see if Slate ever delivers what they've been promising as a no-frills cheap car.

I'm calling BS on "road noise is worse than a 27 year old Subaru", this is an insane claim that needs some hard evidence. Please just google what you actually get, or test drive one. They've been a best selling vehicle brand for a few years, with literally millions on the road at any given time.
If you can't be bothered to operate in even a little bit of good faith, please stop littering forums.

It's a complicated policy. What about if you're travelling in France? If someone gives you directions do you want it to not be shown on the map because you call it one thing? What about Canada, where part of the country would want the English Channel and the other La Manche. I get why showing two names would help a lot.

What do you want to see when streets get renamed to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd? Or renamed away from Caesar Chavez? How long do you wait for the "common name" to take precedence?
