This was foreseeable. We all know it. We all know why. Yet we fail to do anything about it.
Why isn't this a thing on Amazon I can buy?
SDLC is totally different than even 12 months ago. AI reading meeting transcripts, generating user stories/requirements, generating questions, generating engineering/architecture solutions, writing code and creating PRs.
Those changes have allowed us to operate with a team of about 6-9 engineers producing like a team of twice that 5 years ago.
Interesting. Pretty much none of that is true for us. We had achieved strong enough success that were past the stage VCs want to participate in a first round. Partnering with the PE firm gives us a war chest to land grab while the turf is being claimed in our space.
Eisenhower box is immensely helpful. Some amount of intuition. Unblocking the team is always important and urgent.
Staying up to date is hard. HN, LI, the Rundown email, and a private tech execs group on WhatsApp are primary sources.
Great question. That's not been our experience. Right now, we're in growth mode. Hire hire hire. Go faster.
Are we watching product margin and taking action to maximize it? Absolutely. But that's all revolved around technical steps (LLM token caching for example). Our current Product and Engineering headcount is only around 15 so we're already lean. We need to hire more, but we're keeping the bar high. I have no goal for bloating an engineering team just to make it look like we're doing the right thing (hiring). Every hire has to add immense value.
We're living in a time where success as a small team doesn't have to mean the team growing to be so big it's not fun anymore. The best cultures I've been a part of have always revolved around highly skilled small team of people that work their tails off and depend on each other.
Employees have stock options, not stock. Those options are now worth more. Probably can't share too much more detail than that on financial specifics.
Came to us. Some of our founders had previous success and were funding out of their own pocket. We had just turned profitable, but PE money allows a different velocity which we wanted. So when they approached us looking for a solution in our space, we took the meeting. One thing led to another.
Started by a team of 3 three years ago. I knew one of them from my time spent in grad school and living in NH. I joined a year after it formed but before it really took off. Founder #5 type of situation. Significant equity but can't claim I was there from day 0.
Ha, no. Southwest, boarding group 5.

Career developer turned CTO at a healthcare startup. We're two years in, profitable, and took a PE investment 6 months ago. Happy to answer any questions on that journey, startup life, how we're using AI, the PE investment, etc.On an airplane and sounded like a fun way to pass the time if anyone has questions :)
If everyone turned off their lights 100% of the time they left their workstation, they could power those additional data centers for about one second.
Long Tail | full stack | REMOTE/US Based | full time
We build software to help hospitals fight insurance companies.
Small team that just took investment from PE firm so we're scaling rapidly. Looking for AWS-native full stack architects with 5-10 years' experience. No healthcare background required (always a plus though).
You'll be architecting, shipping features, and reviewing work from engineers. Reports to VP of Eng. Email me: scott dot decker at longtailhealth

I can only do a verse every 15 hours? Why the rate limit?

Seems like there are quite a few options out there. Looking for recs on something that can handle the various identity providers of a B2B context (e.g. Azure AD, Okta, etc), don't cost a fortune, and are straightforward to implement and support.

Still 256K input tokens. So disappointing (predictable, but disappointing).

Anyone else seeing latency issues with Azure OpenAI this morning? Status page says it's up but we're seeing timeouts. Specifically, on a gpt-4o models. Happening across multiple apps, multiple subscriptions.
"Although I was invested in this project, I definitely wasn't "flirty sex chat with some random scammer" levels of invested. The thought also dawned on me that part of their playbook could even involve "Aidana" calling for phone sex.
Either would be crossing lines that I didn't want to cross, meaning that I'd stumbled upon an unexpected 4th rule of engagement: don't talk dirty with scammers."
Rules of life to live by.
Without venture capital? Yes. Without $20? Probably not. $20 subscription doesn't need to cover costs of most active user. It needs to cover the cost of the average user (assuming you don't want to put any cash into it yourself...but if that's the case, maybe you don't believe in this idea enough?).

Brian Chesky (Airbnb CEO) says he reviews everything before it goes out the door (I'm sure that's still at a high level).Product managers are the defacto but they can often always want one more feature before it's "just right" and, therefore, be slow to ship.Technology leaders know the features intimately well and if they're ready for use but are typically abstracted from the customer.Who is...
Nope, not a surprise. I've been doing cloud for a while.
What I've never experienced from a cloud provider is a denial at creating infrastructure and told to use a different region.

We tried provisioning a database in US EAST. We were denied. We submitted a support request. We were told they could not provision the database due to high demand in that region (what??). We pivoted to US EAST 2 and am now getting blocked trying to deploy an App Service.Azure, you have one job and that's to ALWAYS deploy the infrastructure I request.Has anyone else experienced this? Is...
