Re:Exercise is good for you. But what's the right amount? on Sunday August 09, 2026 @09:38AM (#49231322)
3 × 1.01⁵² = 5.03 hours per week at the end of a year if you did 1% more than you did last week if you're already doing three hours a week.

Another pointless "up to x% better" specification.
Re:It's getting harder to focus every day on Friday July 24, 2026 @09:52AM (#49035669)
I've started to go stand in my front yard and just watch the world go by for 15 minutes or so and if I do it around dinner time then I can get away without looking weird as it's perfectly normal to wait uber eats this way.

Re:What old technology do you still use regularly? on Sunday June 14, 2026 @09:36AM (#48527086)
Also love my muhle safety razor. Also prefer rim brakes over disc on my bicycles. Steel frame bikes. Drive a 2001 corolla. Use a denon 2308 avr amp from 2008. Run hdmi from mini pc into a smart TV that's never seen WiFi or the internet. Run optical from TV into the avr, 3.1 setup. No soundbar. No stream. Everything simple and reliable.

Stare at the wall and think about what I'm actually solving.

What's next, Dog Pause?
That's unfortunate to hear. This has allowed me to connect with talent that has otherwise not been given the opportunity to showcase their skills. At the scale I'm doing it it's pretty harmless but can see how it can be easily exploited.

Me too. It doesn't have ability to alert only on true positive. I has to also alert on true negative. So dumb
Re:LLMs Predict My Coffee on Monday March 23, 2026 @08:06AM (#47488323)
Slightly related, I was using an LLM to help me understand whether I should add milk to my coffee before walking to my table or when I get to my table (objective to maximise coffee temperature at the point drinking). Turns out it's best to add the milk immediately when the coffee is made because the rate of cooling is higher at higher temperatures.

I see lots of em dash in this article.

Working with data I need to be objective, and while thinking objectively I prefer brutal/minimal ist UIs
Re:Postal Arbitrage on Monday January 12, 2026 @02:01PM (#46592710)
Is there a simple way to search for everything and order by price descending? I'm in Australia so those items aren't much use.
Same! I made a comment earlier that it's now very easy to navigate bash with guidance from ChatGPT.
With LLMs it's now much easier to navigate Linux and bash. Definitely happy with Linux Mint as a Windows alternative.
I've just started managing a team and would like to develop my EQ and think more before I speak.

Re:Radio Garden on Monday June 23, 2025 @05:19PM (#44360242)
A feature I've requested (no response, paid membership) is to hide radio stations. This is because I like to trial each radio station in a region before I favourite it. It's difficult to keep track of which station I've trialled if there's no way to hide them or leave a note on them. Hiding them from the map would be most effective.
Re:Ask HN: What are you currently trying to figure out? on Saturday April 26, 2025 @08:53PM (#43808545)
How to build a segmentation model based on a sample of data that needs to be representative of the population.

Ask HN: Web-based platform for testing job candidates

Hi HN, I am hiring for a junior data analyst role and trying to prepare an assignment as a way to examine candidate skills. Does anyone know of a web-based GUI that resembles something like MS SQL Management Studio or Teradata SQL Assistant or Cloudera HUE that allows me to import a few sample datasets and then allow job candidates to write their SQL to solve the assignment? I have identified...
