interesting, thanks!

so is it confirmed if this is the mysterious OxAlpha model?
Re:How Universities Should Prepare Founders on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @12:34AM (#49429102)
One thing I agree with and one I disagree with:

- I've always thought it was silly my university had an Entrepreneurship major. Starting a company is probably much better achieved by studying something technical or going deep into a problem space and seeing a problem there, not a generic "entrepreneurship" curriculum.

- I think startups starting as side projects was more of an artifact of the early YC days where startups could just be simple software that some engineers built on nights and weekends. Increasingly I feel like the next generation of startups is more capital intensive and requires more time commitment from deeply technical talent. Not in 100% of cases obviously.

my prediction is even if open source Chinese models are 90% as good (or even a bit better, which I don’t really believe because of benchmark hacking) enterprises will still pay for Claude / ChatGPT and the harness, integrations, and peace of mind versus using some Chinese cloud.
what i appreciate most about this post is the level of transparency in how they built and scaled an RL pipeline. my friends at the big labs are so cagey about everything, and Zai is just putting out a great crash course for free.
Re:Haters (2020) on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @02:15PM (#49172653)
the wisest lil wayne lyric is "jealousy is love and hate at the same time". often times, a hater is just someone who resents someone's success because they wished they were in that position.
Re:Kimi Work on Monday July 20, 2026 @06:31PM (#48985697)
while it's true the model layer is getting commoditized, there is absolutely no way we are migrating any serious enterprise workflows to Kimi work. i think chinese models will continue to have an adoption problem.
Re:The US Government Is Now a Shareholder in 26 Companies on Thursday July 02, 2026 @02:17PM (#48765378)
i think an important nuance and the reason we don't suddenly have a sovereign wealth fund is it’s not a centralized US Gov buying stakes. It’s a bunch of different government entities using different pools of capital

- Commerce dept: Intel, IBM quantum, GlobalFoundries, D-Wave, Rigetti, xLight

- Dept of "war": MP Materials for rare earths, L3Harris rocket motors for munitions

- Energy dept: Lithium Americas / Thacker Pass, Westinghouse nuclear

- White House: U.S. Steel golden share

Re:Ask HN: How do you share /skills across your dev team? on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @02:39PM (#48737315)
this is a pain point -- we also have .skill files duplicated across Claude Desktop and our agent's codebase and keeping them in sync is a pain.

I assume it's just something Anthropic hasn't gotten around to fixing yet. but following this thread

Re:Claude Sonnet 5 on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @02:32PM (#48737193)
> the computer use evaluation OSWorld-Verified. Sonnet 5 (orange line) is a strict improvement over Sonnet 4.6

cool to see, still waiting for models to get better at computer use.

Re:Hacker News Daily podcast, created with vibecasting on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @04:41PM (#47784947)
so "vibecasting" is like vibecoding but for podcasting? interesting, this is gonna be a thing isn't it
Re:GitHub Stacked PRs on Monday April 13, 2026 @05:40PM (#47758177)
cherry picking is so fragile, this is at least a step in the right direction
Re:I Just Want Simple S3 on Monday April 13, 2026 @05:40PM (#47758169)
100% - i really wanted Render to add this, feels like there is potential for a startup here
Besides just being yet another example of the Trump admin abusing power and weaponizing legitimate laws in illegitimate ways to extract concessions, there is another reason this is dumb -- which is that Anthropic just has the best models!

As someone who wants America to win, ripping out Claude and putting in xAI is a terrible idea. Definitely setting us back a few months on capabilities

Re:Tailscale Is Pretty Useful on Wednesday March 05, 2025 @07:37PM (#43274702)
super useful, at airgarage we have a network of license plate readers deployed around the country and tailscale is a game changer for remote access and debugging. https://www.airgarage.com/capabilities/license-plate-recogni...

Re:Reverse Engineering Ticketmaster's Rotating Barcodes on Monday July 08, 2024 @06:30PM (#40910448)
Very cool post, but as someone who has been on the other side of the situation, I do have sympathy for what they are trying to accomplish.

I bought a ticket that someone had double sold, and by the time I got to the door, they turned me away and said the ticket had already been used. So their system has good intentions, they just need to make it work offline.

Crucible – A community for those looking to acquire SaaS businesses

Over the last year I have acquired several cash flowing SaaS businesses and realized it's an exciting space to be in but there's no "YC" for the world of SaaS - no great, free community for folks to discuss deals, growth strategies, and meet each other.I’m starting this community as a space for those serious about finding acquiring software businesses. My hope is that it can help people share...

Re:Show HN: gpudeploy.com – "Airbnb" for GPUs on Saturday May 04, 2024 @08:02PM (#40261308)
I have a cluster on RunPod and it's great, but there's definitely some opportunity in the space, for example if you can focus on transparency (utilization rates, more info about end user and their purpose, reporting) that would be helpful.

I think RunPod and Vast have most the market share but t's still early to the game

Show HN: ReplyGuy – AI Reddit auto replies for lead gen and brand protection

https://replyguy.com/

Excited to share something I've been building recently called ReplyGuy. I made it to solve a personal pain with a SaaS product I built, which was that we were always monitoring Reddit and Twitter to see if anyone had mentioned keywords indicating they were looking for us. Before, we had to go manually respond to posts, often missing good mention opportunities.Would love for HN folks to try it...

Re:California governor vetoes bill to ban driverless AV trucks on Monday September 25, 2023 @09:57AM (#37643879)
This is great news and required a lot of courage from Governor Newsom. He was put in a tough place between two of his largest supporters (tech and labor). Paradigm shifts like autonomy are hard in the short term, but it never makes sense to hamstring technology to preserve jobs - if that were the case we'd still be paying punchcard operators instead of using computers. Not to mention that this will make our roads safer.

Show HN: Scanline – open-source AI PR Reviews

https://github.com/ScanLineDev/scanline

Sharing the PR Review CLI tool I built with 2 friends recently. I have found that it's surprisingly capable of finding bugs, logical errors, and typos before pushing. You can use it on your own branches or to get a second "opinion" on colleagues code - just check out the target branch and run `scan`.
