Yeah, it's so weird (and shameless).
Not the first repo he is plagiarizing. One of the first things I see when visiting his profile:

https://github.com/obaraelijah/redis-proto

From:

https://github.com/dpbriggs/redis-oxide

But Elijah Samson / obaraelijah / elly sam has started removing or making repositories private now that he has been found out.

Let's hope Elijah Samson, AKA obaraelijah, AKA elly sam, AKA Sahomey Technologies, AKA Sahomey-Technologies will learn from this.
He said that there are "porn companies that feature of-age performers" that "are highly exploitative and uncomfortably close to human trafficking", e.g. GDP. Nothing more, nothing less.

> Qatar football stadium

The issue with documented human rights abuses in the construction industry in Qatar is a problem with Qatar, and not with the construction industry. I don't think I have to explain why.

> Why?

The rest of the sentence, which you conveniently left out when quoting, is one why.

Not a cannabis user, but I hardly ever remember my dreams. Maybe one every 1-2 months if I'm lucky. I wonder if that means that there is something wrong with my sleep.

Or maybe it was just said in jest. Not everything has to be so black and white.

PHP.

To be a little crude, and in my opinion, what you are basically saying is that you are glad that the choice and autonomy of other people unrelated to you is restricted so that your vision of what the world should look like can be realized.
Re:Ask HN: What do you REALLY look for in a new position? on Friday September 09, 2016 @05:11AM (#12460576)
Autonomy over my work and how I solve problems. Not having to deal with the customer directly or provide support. Few meetings and business waste. Quiet working conditions with few interruptions.

Does anyone have thoughts on Wickr? It comes with extra features like expiring messages/media.

Maybe you don't like it, and you are fully within your rights to cancel, but it is not abuse. They can or should be able to carry whatever products they damn well please.

That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Fire service could be privatized and government provided welfare does not have to exist to begin with.

Where do you live? Because if you live in the western world and in a country with a reasonable amount personal and financial freedom, you are out of your freaking mind.

I try to get up every 1-2 hours and walk around and do some exercises when I'm on a long-haul flight. I'm that weird guy doing squats and other exercises at the back of the plane. If there is no room outside I use a bathroom. I also drink a lot of water, which causes me to get up anyway because I have to go to the bathroom more often.
Re:Happy people don’t leave jobs they love on Saturday January 02, 2016 @08:27AM (#10826122)
If I'm insanely fortunate I will have 100 reasonably healthy years on this planet. Spending 3-4% of my life at any one company is a lot if you ask me, no matter how much I like it there. The bottom line for a lot of people on HN is that they don't have to if they don't want to. And like you say, most companies are not SpaceX. While you can certainly still grow and crush it after 2-3 years, chances are that you can grow and crush it that much more if you uproot and start over somewhere else.
Maybe this won't be a popular response, but what we do know is that Facebook couldn't give a single fuck about your privacy or protecting your private information. (Insofar as they "care" it is to protect their own interests.) It is prudent to assume and expect that they will exploit you in any way possible. So if you are so concerned, why are you even on Facebook?

I second this, and have used it for years with caffeine for this exact reason. By itself it also has an anti-anxiolytic and calming effect, and has been used to treat ADHD as well.

If you want to try it out, make sure you get Suntheanine. A dose that works for many is twice the theanine than caffeine, but YMMV.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response! I'm a Rails developer myself, and have recently become increasingly interested in front end development. Have tried to embrace React et al. but am not convinced that it's what I need.
Thank you for this comment. Several things there that I will look into! If you don't mind, could you elaborate a bit on the following:

> - $(document).on('event', '.element', ..) is fantastic. Never debug events ever again

> - a single javascript function that accepts a DOM element (body, a modal, section) and initializes all the elements the app knows of (selectize elements, date/time pickers, etc) inside that container

It's only bad when private businesses do it, of course.

Private monopolies are largely unproblematic as they will be destroyed by more effective competitors eventually. I'm way more afraid of government monopoly. Point in case: The protectionism and government interference that has kept the taxi business shitty for so long.

Re:How I Hire Programmers (2009) on Friday May 22, 2015 @05:08AM (#9587228)
> Yes, it's brutal, and a bit ruthless, but effective.

I'm not saying that people who don't work out should not be let go, and I'm certainly not saying that you "owe" people anything. It's a business and not a charity. (Just remember that this goes the other way as well; people who show loyalty to some company are doing themselves a great disservice, in my opinion. I work for money. I'm passionate and will do great work, but I'm a mercenary.)

That being said, I would be very hesitant to go work at a place known to err on the side of just hiring someone and kicking them to the curb if it doesn't work out. Why? Because it can say a great deal about the management at that company, and how they will treat me. I also have no interest in being hired unless you are confident that I'm a great fit. I don't want anyone to take a chance on me. I want people to be delighted to hire me over someone else.

> However, based on your other answers about what you do, it's unlikely that this current $200K salary is sustainable. Your company can easily replace what you do with a local developer for less than $200K. They are actually doing the right thing by giving you the option to stay and move to the US.

This is the most important thing to consider here, in my opinion. So OP, answer this: You're fired from the company tomorrow, and you're out looking for a job again. Where would you rather be? Which market would you prefer to sell your services to? You're already making a killing, and you will continue to make a killing after moving to the US. What happens after this gig is what's important here. This is potentially a rest-of-your-life decision. You can always move back to India.

Really awesome work! Looks very polished and thorough.
I lean towards merging as is and fixing afterwards. Or doing a manual merge locally, fix whatever needs to be fixed, and then push to master. There is just something about changing other people's commits that doesn't sit well with me. But maybe there is something about the author/committer feature of Git and how it's intended to be used that I'm not understanding.

Ask HN: Etiquette around altering commits in pull requests on GitHub

Say you own a project and have some idea of how you want code and commits to be structured. In comes a pull request that doesn't live up to that. No problem. Sometimes you can ask them to correct a few things and merge away, but at other times there will be too many things and, well, you don't want to come off as a person that is hard to deal with. What do you consider appropriate etiquette...
