Could you please help with any insights about the social media vetting rules? This has been a blackbox to the visa applications - started with student visas, now being forced on work visas too from Dec 15th.

Ask HN: Any AWS S3 alternatives to reduce the PUT cost?

Please suggest AWS S3 alternatives to reduce the PUT cost and not impacting the latency.Usecase: I want to store 1-1.5mn images (avg size 50kb). All images are deleted after 10 days. 98% of the images are not even viewed once - as a result, I have to save every image.I have tried Wasabi, but the latency was too high (500ms to 2secs) for the upload from AWS Lambda.

That's not the case. There is no LICENSE file at all in my published extension

Ask HN: My browser extension is cloned. Will the Code Copyright help?

I'm the creator of a Chrome extension with 4.7 stars for 500+ ratings. It is one of Google's favorites of 2022. I noticed a company cloned my code (even though I published the uglified version) and published their version of the extension (they are struggling to bring users though).I have reached out to the company that cloned, they are demanding the data and a monthly fee to remove their...

Re:Tell HN: Gmail rate limiting emails from AWS SES on Friday August 18, 2023 @11:59AM (#37177533)
Thanks you all for comments. I have made a decision to subscribed to dedicated IPs (credits: @slau).

The differentiating factor between our current AWS SES plan and the competitors (mentioned in the comments) is having a dedicated IP. With our current volume, none of the competitors are anyway near AWS SES costs. So, moving to a dedicated IPs thats cost 25$ extra not only solves our issue, but also no change in code/infrastructure.

Tell HN: Gmail rate limiting emails from AWS SES

Unsure if this is the same for everyone but our notification emails from SES are being rate limited by Gmail. Background:One of my apps provides time-sensitive email notifications, for 60-90 days, to the subscribers(paid) - so it is critical to deliver emails. We have been using the same email provider and have been using AWS SES for a couple of years now. We have the SPF, and DKIM all verified....

Not all Chrome Extensions work on it. It has issues.. Having a native browser supporting the desktop extensions on the mobile is much needed.
For a moment, I got excited for this. It did not turn up good, as the chrome extension I wanted to try is not working.
Nice and easy interface - I like it. User preferred Dates or month preference can make it more useful.

Also, "optimal location to meet your friends" is better use case than "meet your remote team".

Wow!! Thanks for the about page.
Thanks for the input. I've considered that option, visa support is challenging for Startups

Ask HN: Need guidance to transition from Tech/Programming to Product Management

It's been increasingly hard for me to transition to a Product Management from Sr. Data Scientist role. I've tried platforms like pay-only-after-you-get-hired platforms but no success (not even interview calls). My fulltime company has Project Management & Product Development Management roles, but the responsibilities are majorly people management and finishing a project within a timeline...

Why would you expect startup having special privileges. There are websites like

h1bdata.info which provides list of companies that sponsor H-1B visas along with the job titles and salary

checkvisaslots.com which informs about visa slot availability

visaholics.com a community that shares US visa experiences

boundless.com .. . ..

Ask HN: Any startups focusing on US non-immigrants?

With the recent layoffs (that hurt H-1B visa & GC status) and the long waiting for the US Visa interview appointments in the countries like India & Canada, it seems, there are barriers to entry into the US and maintaining the status. Are they any startups, especially from non-immigrants, that address these pain points?

Checkvisaslots.com - recently picked as one of 12 Google's favourite chrome extension for 2022. It got the attention more than I expected, been a big hit.

I've expanded the service to visaholics.com (yet to generate revenue) where visa applicants can share their experiences.

Ask HN: Any “Chrome Web Store's Favorites of 2022” Extensions?

Ask HN: Do you own or run a forum in a niche market?

I'm working to build a forum for a niche segment. User acquisition is not a problem, I already have social groups with 15K active users/day. I thought it would be good to get HN ideas and feedback in the process so I can avoid pit holes and plan the path right.1. What framework did you chose?2. How to tackle Content moderation and maintenance?3. How to monetize? Ads or Sponsor referrals or...

Dev API service - 50-60 hours including UI. I did that in 2019 (4 digit MRR)

Replica of the above one but lighter version 10 hrs. Built in 2020 (4 digit MRR)

Immigrants platform - around 30-40 hrs - built in 2021 (5 digit MRR) - outsourced 20%

I came here to see more website links with one-man shows that are beating 150k/m.

Ask HN: Waiting for YC Winter'23 Admission?

I'm curious to see what are the companies applied for the YC Winter 2023 batch. If you are in stealth or don't want to let the public know the niche product you applied with, mention the industry you are serving, monthly revenue, age of the product.Myself, I'm a solo founder applying with a product in 15K monthly revenue. This is my 3rd application in the last 6 years and the very first time...

We recently moved away from Rewardful to Tapfiliate. The only reason being - provide an option to the user to add the conversion. With only Stripe integrated for tracking it is hard to onboard businesses other than from the US.

Ask HN: Any (ex) US Consulate officers on HN?

I run a US non-immigrant community portal that has over 300K monthly visits. I sense there is a bigger opportunity to collaborate with the US consulate officer. I've tried LinkedIn, searching gov records, et al to contact ex-consulate officers. As a last attempt, want to give it a try here.Any help with leads (forums/groups/websites) on where I can find them is really appreciated. If you (or...

Apart from "Husband-Wife-relation" and "money shouldn't be in between a relationship" comments. Here is my take and what we do.

Have you tried a shared account? Every month, each deposit the same amount of money, lets say 4K each, towards house and common expenses anything you both/the family spend. All extra money carry forwards and utilize it for more payments towards the house loan, extra purchase for the home or a happy vacation trip. Always maintain a positive shared-account balance. Anytime the balance goes negative, split it equally and reload it.

P.S: My wife earns more than me. She spends on her dresses and bags with her money in the bank, I spend my money on keyboards & shoes.. We never found any issues with that..

Ask HN: Which user referral software do you use?

I run a service that has a great potential for more users with referrals, as our target segment is groups. Currently, we've integrated rewardful-dot-com, however, the service works only for the Stripe purchases. Is there any other services that offer to integrate with other Payment gateways like (RazorPay) or has the ability to accept the referral purchase by a webhook?
