Re:Give it five minutes on Thursday March 01, 2012 @05:39PM (#3654444)
Imagine an environment where you did TWO things: 1) You gave your opinion immediately without fear for others thinking of you as an asshole. 2) You thought about it for more than 5 minutes later. You might even think about it for hours later that night.

It's not one or the other. Both are very important. I've seen more annoying and bureaucratic things happen because people are too afraid to say what they think. Not because people think too less.

Re:On the Usability of Codecademy on Monday January 16, 2012 @11:23AM (#3471173)
I did the same thing with my sister(who doesn't know any code) and the same issues came up with her as well. This is definitely a design issue. How to make the UI better?

In the initial stages of learning of learning a concept, have a dialogue appear for each error saying something like:

When you're coding in the real world no one is going to tell you this, but we've got your back! You forgot the quotes around your name. This problem occurs because some programming languages are case-sensitive, meaning that you have to type it in exactly the way Javascript wants you to. We'll give you a heads up about using quotes 4 more times and after that you're on your own.

To fix this error type in: "Janet".length instead of Janet.length

Re:Shipping $36000 worth of Japanese candy on Saturday January 14, 2012 @01:46PM (#3464897)
Here's an idea to generate some revenue: Some people might love some specific candy you sent. Let people buy packs of that candy through you.
This is good advice if you choose to contact someone in congress about this issue.

This is an interesting read.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photovoltaic_system#Tracking_th...):

"tracking systems can increase viable output by up to 100%...For large systems, the energy gained by using tracking systems outweighs the added complexity (trackers can increase efficiency by 30% or more)"

The new tree design can make 20%-50% more electricity. Wouldn't know till they do some legitimate tests but it seems like the sun trackers fare better.

While this may be helpful for business people and politicians, I think this isn't great advice for this demographic. A huge skill lacking within this industry (and of course I'm generalizing) is that of verbal communication. Wouldn't talking more, much like writing more, help that skill?
