Re:Zürich voters ban noisy leaf blowers on Monday October 06, 2025 @05:53AM (#45489603)
I have been wondering also about this. Why would you use a leaf blower when you can use an electric leaf mulcher, which shreds the leaves, seed and sticks. You can then dispose the leaves in your garden or put it into bio waste.
..and if you don't like sharpening knives, you can buy a serrated vegetable knife for cutting fruit like tomatoes.
SSAB is completing their new 190-tonne alternate current electric arc furnace by end of next year, which should yield about 500-800k carbon free tonnes of steel plate and coil per year.

They plan to convert all their Nordic plants to carbon free by 2030 and have some plants also in the North America.

European mindset is more about everybody being equal, than becoming better than others.

We used to be in Regus' offices, which had the option to use their spaces in other countries too. Not having used WeWork I do not know how it compares, but at least you can use Regus' office in Paris or Mexico City if you want.
Don't know the OP's region, but my region, Europe passed a consumer protection law, that says basically that we must be able to opt out of tracking and automated profiling, if we choose so, without disruption to the service.

Laws have consequences, but without consumer protection laws, the consumers are be walked over by the corporations every time, everywhere.

I guess the next step in humanity's finale is then for someone to create a worm, which installs this plugin automatically to all machines that haven't been patched up to the latest level.
Re:Ask HN: How much of unlimited PTO do you use? on Saturday June 03, 2023 @05:35AM (#36175119)
I tend to take four weeks in the summer, one week in fall, and one in winter. So six weeks a year in total. I live in Europe.

Re:The ethics of reclining airplane seats on Friday November 11, 2022 @02:04AM (#33558033)
It is amazing that people blame each other for this. The seats are on rails and the airline can adjust the seat spacing in a couple of hours if it really wants to.

Just complain to the airline about inadequate space in coach.

Huge thanks to everybody involved in making Python 3.11. Absolutely love the improvements.
You'll need to implement views for handling recovery tokens, processes for people losing their second factor due to stolen phone or corrupted app, and FAQ pages for questions about why my second factor is not accepted.
Re:Meta Quest Pro on Wednesday October 12, 2022 @06:50AM (#33175148)
There are more important problems than low latency rendering pipelines in the world that they could be solving instead.

What Meta is doing, is creating themselves a platform where they can sell ads, because they've been hurt by recent privacy changes by Apple and fear the market share of Google Chrome.

I do not think that there is a one-size fits solution. People with kids might want to opt for six hour day, to better arrange life around them, some others might enjoy more the three day weekends.

Some people work on ships and work six months in twelve hour rotation and then be on vacation for six months.

Re:Show HN: Jless, a command-line JSON viewer on Saturday February 12, 2022 @02:36AM (#30310735)
One might want to include jless in a docker image.
Many times booking directly from the hotel has benefits like more relaxed cancellation rules, which conveniently booking.com and others charge money for.

I think it is a combination of The Greater Fool Theory and fear of missing out. If you missed out on Bitcoin, now is your chance to ride the next wave.
Not really sure if photorealistic avatar can really express all the emotions and facial expressions in a detail that people perceive subconsciously.

This might lead to people becoming more tone-deaf and having less empathy when reading others.

Are you sure it was a plastic wrapper and not e.g. cellophane?

At no single point, the brains, central nervous system, etc develop little by little.

When the baby gets out of womb, their eyes start to gain sight. They're practically unable to focus their vision after birth.

So, we have a quite good understanding on what happens at what week of pregnancy and when it is just biomass, and when it starts to have "structure".

Re:De Cecco reveals why there is a bucatini shortage in America on Tuesday February 09, 2021 @01:23AM (#26074490)
It does, but depending on the sauce (or no sauce) you might not taste the difference.
Re:Circular Pedestrian Bridge in Lujiazui, China on Thursday October 15, 2020 @01:06AM (#24785122)
I've seen many videos about migrant workers in Middle East, and I highly doubt that they have money to spend in malls or have proper living conditions. E.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0EsOFDA6uM#t=3m24s (though this video is from Qatar, there are similar from Dubai)
