The site is slow as hell. I've been waiting for 3 minutes and haven't had results.
That's exactly what I was going to say.
I use github issues and projects.
Here is what I will say as a person with a similar situation. We're not dumb, there is just something in our way. Whether that be anxiety to look dumb or something else. My best advice is don't try to be quick, take your time, formulate a thought and own it. That will make you feel less bad about this perceived negative trait.
Re:How have you found purpose in your life? on Monday February 26, 2024 @12:49PM (#39514450)
I will say a few things. When things like giving up alchohol happen your brain will do a lot of things to trick back into the drug. Like, for example, making the things you previously enjoyed seem not fun or fulfilling like they used to, all a ploy to get you back on the drink. I'm not an expert.

Speaking from experience the number one thing that gave me purpose in life is kids. There is nothing more purposeful that having something that you love more than yourself. I tell everyone this and I understand that you may not agree. Having kids is the greatest thing you will ever do. When you're 60 sitting at home you're going to wish you would have had them.

Non-kid suggestions would be start a project, that you can feel ownership over. You own it and make something of it. You are responsible for its success or failure. Again, I'm no expert.

I will say my energy levels have seriously increased in the last few years and I 100% think it is because I have stopped working out as much. When I worked out a lot I felt like I had a lot more energy and I have noticed similar things from other people.
That seems bad for business.

How do you guys maintain a healthy lifestyle?

I have recently been feeling the affects of sitting all day and want a change. I have hip pain, high blood pressure and I'm pretty over weight. I blame most of this on my job and how I sit basically all day and don't really have much time for other things(That might be a me issue because I have 3 kids who are involved in a lot of activities). I have been wanting to change careers for a really...

Yes. They did this at my company and no one that reapplied was hired.

I would say that flutter is an emerging technology. Cross platform, it runs natively on ios and android plus a bonus of the browser and desktop.

Semi relatable. Marshawn Lynch "Beast Mode" of the seattle seahawks said that he would take a shot or two before the games to calm his nerves and things just flow.
An application that allows you to run commands via ssh on multiple hosts
I have a very similar story. Small startup, 6 developers, 4 other employees and 2 founds. They fired an employee for lack of output and then all but 1 developer left the company.
Re:Ask HN: How to make a native GUI with a modern language? on Tuesday August 09, 2022 @10:58AM (#32398932)
Sounds like you're looking for Flutter? https://flutter.dev/

Also java can run on any platform so javafx, etc..

It's not a data structure but a really cool algorithm. Locality Sensitive Hashing. It allows like items to be hashed to the same value. So instead of a typical hashing functions that wants to avoid collisions this algorithm tries to optimize for collisions.

Re:Ask HN: Quit a job if you don't fit in the team? on Thursday July 21, 2022 @05:52PM (#32185655)
Here is what I will say. If you always leave when you feel this way you'll never get better. I used to be you, I was always awkward and felt awkward around my co-workers. For me this wasn't just at work this was in every aspect of my life, I was very anxious all the time. It was an underlying insecurity that I hadn't dealt with yet.

It took me years to overcome the anxiety and feeling of awkwardness but it's because I didn't understand why I was feeling that way.

Here is what I'll say as some closing advice. No one else thinks you're weird, or awkward or an outcast. You do. They think you're the new guy and it's just going to take some time to break that barrier. Running away is not going to fix it.

Doesn't work with my intellIj version. Or it could be the cooperate network.
Re:Ask HN: Do you learn on work time? on Thursday May 05, 2022 @06:36PM (#31279138)
This is part of working and improving yourself, your company benefits from this. Have you ever heard the quote: "What if we train them and they leave? What if we don’t and they stay?". As long as it is relevant to your job and you're getting your work done, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Re:Ask HN: What do you snack on while coding? on Friday January 14, 2022 @11:22AM (#29936413)
Snacks typically make me feel drowsy or lose concentration. I will typical eat gum if I need something.
Re:Show HN: A coding coach to help you write better code faster on Tuesday February 23, 2021 @03:26PM (#26242438)
One of the problems that I've had with static code analysis in github is them spamming my PR with comments pointing out trivial problems.

Is it just me or does it seems like we're going backwards with things like this?
Re:Ask HN: Losing all interest in programming, what now? on Thursday December 10, 2020 @01:58PM (#25377057)
All I can say is I went through the exact same thing. I used to love sitting down at the keyboard and churning out code on a project I was excited about. Slowly but surely I started programming less and was not as excited about jumping into projects as I used to be.

For me, the problem was Alcohol. I was drinking more alcohol than I ever had in the past and it, for some reason I do not know, was causing me to not find the some enjoyment in things especially programming.

So, I realized this and stopped drinking alcohol and I have now been working on projects non stop in my free time and am enjoying programming as much as I ever had.

In all, I would say don't be too hard on yourself. You are still the same person that loved programming. I think you need to take a step back and see what else in your life has changed.

Genuinely curious. Why is angular not in the conversation? I use angular regularly and love it.
