Re:YouTube is shutting down crowdsourced captions on Monday September 28, 2020 @10:53PM (#24623761)
They will still have captions, just not crowdsourced. The auto captions are better and better these days.
Are these memos redacted in some way? Would there be a separate diligence memo or is this the sort of final summary on why an investment would be made?

You would think so but feel free to try a reset / recovery at live.com and you will see that this is their standard form. That's what is so absurd -- change an email with no verification, but require next-level verification for the original owner to secure the account.
Re:Tell HN: Microsoft Skype Security Is Flawed on Tuesday May 12, 2020 @12:07PM (#23155597)
In messaging with support, they advised that the system would 'automatically' identify the account as compromised and eventually block it. This doesn't seem that likely so I will ping them again in a few hours.
Re:Tell HN: Microsoft Skype Security Is Flawed on Tuesday May 12, 2020 @11:48AM (#23155314)
That's good news. I will reach out again and try to get it blocked at least but so far they have been unwilling to do so.

Were you worried at all about the culprit using the access to figure out other accounts? My account had a balance so I assume it had some old credit card info in it or something similar.

Unfortunately it appears that the password has changed.

Tell HN: Microsoft Skype Security Is Flawed

Re:The Light Phone on Saturday January 04, 2020 @03:55PM (#21957455)
Well, yes, of course that's what they think. And so far they have been right given that they are currently back ordered and saw 10,700+ backers on Indiegogo raising $3.5MM for the thing.
You are amazing for building and running this program. People like you are what give me hope that we can build a better government! Thanks for all you do!
Re:We are clueless about how long things should take on Wednesday September 25, 2019 @10:37AM (#21071188)
That's because developers shouldn't be making estimates in isolation. They only know what they know about themselves. People who watch developers across many projects can better understand the 'likeness' of similar projects, similar inputs (in terms of developers), and then talk to developers about the differences of a given project to come to a better estimate.
Re:WeWork considers IPO valuation of as low as $10B on Friday September 13, 2019 @11:21AM (#20962914)
They recently raised funding at $47 billion though. So it's more than "just a report".

Re:Tumblr the Day After on Wednesday August 14, 2019 @01:08PM (#20697574)
This is really just shorthand for saying "our employees don't hate working at our company as much as the typical large company because we try to limit bureaucracy and politicking and we value / recognize good ideas and actual execution"
Funny to hear him parrot several stats and anecdotes brought up by Andrew Yang in his discussion with Joe Rogan just a couple weeks ago.

Do you still use excel sheets for security assessment or some platform?
Re:Employee happiness and business success are linked on Tuesday July 30, 2019 @08:10PM (#20570522)
It's the opposite. Business success (e.g. being able to pay people to work less hard and enjoy free lunches, etc) is linked to happiness.
That was an awesome summary and a good example of the value of bug bounty programs.
It is the crown jewel because people choose Google precisely because they are understood to have the largest index. It's comparable to Verizon marketing 'the largest network,' but with many more benefits accrued to the company who is believed to have the largest search index.
