Re:Tesla Repays Department of Energy Loan Nine Years Early on Thursday May 23, 2013 @05:34AM (#5755954)
Ultimately Tesla is in the business of public opinion. Paying back the goverment far ahead of schedule when there is no need to necessarily do it, considering fairly favourable terms for the loan, can be considered a "PR Ploy" to play to that public opinion. After all, wouldn't they have just stated the fact and not compared themselves to other car manufacturers, even going to lengths to spell out the fact that they weren't bailed out?

It is not a bad thing, after all it is a smart move and one done so by good businessmen. But blindly assuming they are doing this from the good of their hearts "because we want to do the right thing and pay back our government" is just naive. I don't think you should consider the above as a negative comment either, there are those among us who value the business rational behind the decision, and don't get caught up in the PR fluff. I think everyone here respects and admires what Elon Musk is doing, and doing well.

Hi guys, Just launched the Alpha of a product we've been working on for the last 6 months.

Problem we're trying to solve is the cumbersome process of managing design feedback, whether its through email, phone or in person. We want to put the feedback where it should be, directly on the design. Think Issue tracking for designers.

You can see a quick video I put together here: http://www.conjure.io/alphademo/ to get a better understanding of what it does.

If anyone wants in the Alpha, we're looking for testers and early adopters!! [email protected] for an invite.

Let us what you think!

Re:Show HN: my Mac app just got fireballed on Monday May 14, 2012 @08:11PM (#3974097)
Awesome, thanks Mark.

Does the mac appstore allow you to track where your sales come from? Do you get the majority from people linking to your site or discovering the app through the store?

I could not disagree with you more.

SV Entrepreneur types, as a generalisation, are more like the farmers in this article selling there wares than the WS Bankers. Sure people are money obsessed but they do it either by being profitable or by selling equity in value creating businesses.

I think the Google slogan of "Don't be evil" is the best summation of the average tech entrepreneur these days, generally because they are smart respectable human beings. They are looking to solve a problem that exists, for people willing to pay.

Of course there are always bad apples.

There is nothing broken about demand and supply, only the steps in between are broken, which the financial institution's such as Goldman saps on.

I can't speak for others on HN but I come here seeking knowledge, to understand. Not as forum for activation. This knowledge is then to be used to take action in the real world.

That may not be through pushing a cause or donating to a charity, but by getting myself into a position of greater power and authority to make a real impact when I can make an impact.

I see articles like this as cards at my disposal, that I will refer back to when the time is right and the chance is there, to make a dent.

Re:Amazon.com begins rolling out new homepage design on Sunday September 11, 2011 @01:31PM (#2984235)
I like this.

Clear user flow. Less distracting colours - Dark colour against mainly light BG should = call to action. Iconography, search icon instead of go. Removing the cart from the blue bar gives it separate visual identity than search.. Less help text/descriptive text.. more white space.

A breath of fresh air from Amazon, lets hope they take this redesign throughout quickly. I like designs that carry me through the site on a soft fluffly cloud.
