News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Neither New Zealand nor Australia have national ID cards, for what it's worth.
An E-3 isn't dual intent, there's no path to a GC unless you switch.
GM, Apple, and Uber are all testing in the Phoenix metro area, so I don't think that's valid - more likely good wide roads, weather, and regulatory environment.
Apple Maps has the same functionality (with Lyft as well), so I wouldn't read into it too much.
Re:traceroute bad.horse on Thursday December 08, 2016 @12:26PM (#13132083)
The cert for https://signed.bad.horse/ is pretty good, too.
Another key difference -with an E3 there's no path to a green card. A number of friends have had to change to L1/H1 visas because of this limitation.

I think you're thinking of Screenhero - https://slack.com/screenhero
Re:Time zone news on Thursday October 29, 2015 @02:52PM (#10473351)
The Turkish change affected me over the weekend. The local mobile carriers didn't update their settings and thus my phone automatically updated to EEST. Fortunately my flight was much later in the day and it was rectified by that point.

I'm not sure they're at the level of Cisco, but they do have certifications.

Hoist (http://hoistapps.com/) seems like it might be something up your alley.
How is JIRA's UX maddening? It's so highly configurable that it really depends on how it is set up, and what the patterns of use are within your organisation.
Re:The way we board airplanes on Friday April 25, 2014 @07:00PM (#7649608)
From my experience, the boarding problem is pretty specific to the US, where everyone seems to have carry on bags perfectly sized to fit the overhead compartments, of which there are not enough to satisfy everyone's need to not check in any baggage (and thus avoid check in charges)

In my opinion the solution would probably be to discourage as much bulk in carry on, rather than herding cats at the gate.

On mobile you don't have a hover state so surely this would be less of an issue.

Designer News (http://news.layervault.com/) is pretty good and well frequented.
Re:Backpacker stripped of tech gear at Auckland Airport on Thursday December 12, 2013 @08:26AM (#6894251)
This is terrible advice, especially in the New Zealand context. Playing ignorant will get you into a lot more trouble than being honest, and will just fuel the fire more.
Re:Poll: long-term contractors, what is your hourly rate? on Saturday May 25, 2013 @11:52PM (#5769965)
Wow, I would have to say that seems completely unreasonable, even if you were in the smallest of towns in NZ. I don't know of anyone (inc. students) who charge less than $40/hour for development freelancing.
