Re:Never Complain, Never Explain on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:45PM (#50346458)
In public face?

Even if this was a mantra for royalty, I am positive that amongst peers and private lessers they will lose their cool and demeanor.

Presenting a demeanor to a subset of humanity is much easier than the whole; on account of the loneliness acting 100% of the time presents. Code switching is pretty inate to humans, it would seem.

Well they did copy paste that reply 3 times. So yeah, they probably are confused.
I almost feel people are being willfully blind to what the comment actually said.

Not ICE admins.

Admins who are dealing with shipping/customs. That is not ICE, it doesn't relate to ICE, and its important.

Article states else is archiac English but later says someone called it ignorantly incorrect English and suggested using "or".

Ive always assumed it was effectively "otherwise" but shortened to "or else" -> "else".

Given the alternative to use "or" as the first pushback I feel that acts as confirmation. I prefer else because "or" has implications in boolean and bitwise logic that else doesn't.

Re:Richest 0.1% (8M) produce more carbon pollution than 3.5B on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:59PM (#50284395)
Unhinged to think the bulk of the population can work remote on train rides with 0 demand. Dropping you from one frozen wasteland to another is not desirable.

Have you been to Siberia or Alaska? If you're not flying you're going to have a LONG drive once you get to either side.

Re:Nvidia discusses $2k-per-GPU annual fee for software on Monday October 26, 2026 @11:35PM (#50254444)
Not that I necessarily agree with their rationale, but you're framing it differently.

> Lack of sustainability in hardware sales

Doesn't necessarily imply competitors will be eating market share, it can imply the market will shrink. e.g. data center commitments and AI dries up. Or, it can imply hardware development will slow or become "good enough" and slow sales of latest and greatest.

Ah you're right, my brain totally skipped over that sentence.
I intend to try this out later in the week, but are you aware ncspot exists?

I've been using it for a few years now and it solves similar issues, using librespot as well. Never had an issue with rate limiting and such. I do have issues where Spotify breaks the client all the time, which I'd imagine this suffers from as well.

Quoting a Kai Lentit video as Dario Amodei changing his mind on regulation is peak slop.

Cool idea, I guess, but its just more slop to track the slop.

Re:Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free on Saturday September 26, 2026 @09:58AM (#49856614)
Google maps makes money through its API as well as accepting sponsored results to appear before correct results.

I'd agree you have a choice with 3rd party stores but they're working on limiting/killing those tiny markets, already.

Or... Just buy indie games. They're usually better and not a law firm with a small games company attached.
Re:Anthropic is in regulatory-capture financial loop on Monday September 14, 2026 @08:44PM (#49706257)
Really is for the best.

XCancel is a nice QOL but sends the message that using Twitter is fine. The more people that give up at the login screen the better.

Well I knew someone who did this ritual and they would send black photos of their leg so close to the camera. So I'd imagine nothing and its classic number go up social media.
Re:The Silo · interactive 3D cutaway on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @11:37PM (#49545651)
What's going on in mechanical? Given this is based on the show that's painfully wrong. The generator seems to be in the wrong place AND the drill is upside down and an alien shuttle.

The scale of the silo is pretty cool to see, though.

Re:I built a forgetting curve for an agent with one user on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:54PM (#49517057)
Or when slop wastes everyone's time with nearly every submission, which is now.
In a linked article it said something like 77% of cases were deliberate consumption of mad honey for thereputic qualities.
Popping into a TUI from an existing terminal session to quickly do something without lifting my hand is the only reason I use and prefer a TUI.

If I have to open a browser which has, frankly mediocre, kb nav, then I'd rather it just be a GUI.

I guess I'm a browser detractor, though, because unless its a webserver used for quick configs then I dread using them.

Re:Stopping the smart TV from being used against you on Friday August 28, 2026 @05:53PM (#49484679)
The best thing about fibre rollout in my region is that the ONT appears to act as the modem so I don't need to set the modem/router into bridge mode any more.

I'm sure that'll end.

Re:Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account on Thursday August 27, 2026 @05:36PM (#49471591)
Assuming you mean RCS, to which Google built a proprietary E2EE extension, remains the only client with no API to build off of and if I recall requires play attestation.

Hardly a complete solution, it devolved into a Google power grab, in my opinion.

For once I half agree with apple when they say its less secure, as apple-to-google comms are not E2EE like they are for google-to-google. While that is fixable with a hack its still a hack, not part of the protocol.

So it costs money per company and users submitting have no incentives? There's no network effect like the honestly terrible glassdoor.

Vague notions of moderation filtering "disgruntled employees" and HR teams. How is that proposed to work?

How do you separate a genuine 2 star review between a 2 star review of someone who got fired with cause. How do you filter HR teams without undue burdon on volunteered info from former/current employees.

Etc.. Etc..

Re:AdNauseam – Clicking ads so you don't have to on Monday August 17, 2026 @11:00PM (#49340726)
Not to speak to the effectiveness, but I think the idea is to discredit advertising by invalidating the concept of paying for clicks.
Re:Why some people mow a lawn better than others on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @07:13PM (#49176577)
To be fair, equipment is pretty enjoyable to run, especially if you aren't burned out of it as a job.

I miss running an excavator, all the time.

Re:That time when I failed the Microsoft interview on Monday August 03, 2026 @11:56PM (#49164218)
This was the real riddle all along.
Re:A Discord Alternative – Echoed on Monday July 27, 2026 @07:52PM (#49077282)
Nah, everyone I know isn't a fan of discord's UI.

I stand to gain nothing and I don't even think it's popular sentiment.

For a new user it's completely alien. Trying to get a coworker to try discord for the first time is a nightmare.

It tries to solve so much in such a condensed bar on the side. Why are DM listed "as" a server. I hate the notification system for transient server joins. I have no opinion of the channel system. Why can't you read discord threads of a public discord without joining the server and accepting the posting rules? They're trying to emulate forums but it's a huge PITA to just read (in a RO state, even).

Idk lots of complaints, network effect is a bitch.

How is that true if:

This project is not associated with Tailscale Inc.

However, one of the active maintainers for Headscale is employed by Tailscale and he is allowed to spend work hours contributing to the project. Contributions from this maintainer are reviewed by other maintainers.

I read that exact preface on his site before learning and adopting it (the secure knot, specifically, but the preface is on both).

Re:Espionage Against the European Parliament on Friday July 03, 2026 @06:07PM (#48780576)
I mean his device was pwnd completely. Its not a stretch that attempts to warn are suppressed.

That or he didn't notice or could have assumed the notice itself was one of many phishing attempts against large orgs.

If I saw a notification that my account was compromised by Pegasus I'd personally assume phishing.

Re:Immich v3.0.0 Released on Thursday July 02, 2026 @11:43PM (#48770444)
Maybe I'm missing something but the linked discussion has a link to a closed issue that links a PR that added the feature you say is missing.
You presumably need to convict the conspirator on evidence that doesn't consist of having published documents on your person.
Re:What is a Lithium-ion capacitor? on Friday June 26, 2026 @05:25PM (#48692174)
Limited by material. They store electric charge by using thin layers of insulating material and pooling negative charge on one side and positive on the other. You can puncture the material and release energy as a typical conductor, it's not stored chemically.
