Ask HN: Why my startup/idea die after YC rejection?

Posted by saifa on Sunday April 10, 2011 @10:52AM
from the ask-hn dept.

I know that’s going to happen with many applicants. That happened with me 3 times already after I got rejection. Why? Actually I tried to impress YC and pass to the program. I bluffed – what if I make a shot. YC sees bluffed and stupid ideas for sure. So that did not work for me at all (maybe did for some one else). After rejection I tried to believe in my product, write some Go-Forward posts...

If i could come to YC or other VCs interview, i would wear a t-shirt with my startup/idea identity. Would it be silly?

Novosibirsk is city of smart people. Best regards! I'm agree about Russia ecosystem. You are right! Milner is a hero for me, really! He does business in both ends: russian and western internet.

I used to try to do some projects in russian internet. 2 years ago built http://www.moivizitki.ru (social business networking), a big Moscow based web company wanted to buy it (mostly hire us), but i decided to spend my life to build own startup (you can find job any way if needed). Built several e-com affiliate projects for english speaking world. Now my friend and i apply to YC.

I wonder if any person from post Soviet Union was excepted to YC (I don't say even a team, at list person :).

Our plan is simple to finish our project, gain users and try to make some revenue and apply again in summer 2011. I was even happy that we did not make it, as we win time and don't rush our-self.So finish your project and apply again next summer or think of new idea. Go for it! )))

Overview of our startup industry - Daily Deals

from the self-post dept.

I want to write a post and overview about my start-up industry. Unfortunately it's not a pro post, as I’m far from being a good blogger and english is not my 1st language. That is not a secret that group buying (daily deals, social e-commerce, Groupon) is one of the most popular web topic in 2010 and the biggest trend which is growing world wide. How many of you tried to build something in that...

Maybe you heard “Groupon, which launched its service allowing merchants to create their own deals...” TechCrunch. I think more info coming soon as they still work on the interface (something missing in UI and profiles for sure).Sh..t merchant store is "my idea" which I had in mind, made some work and applied to YC. I expected Groupon/s go to that direction, as it looks like group buying is...

Re:Ask HN: Wondering how many people applied to YC 3 times or more? on Sunday October 24, 2010 @06:12PM (#1827474)
This time the application is way better! YC is improving in application big time. There are still same questions (that is great), but some hard questions are taken away. I also like the idea of video. We know Paul and Jessica and all crew in face, but now they can see us too (heh). Maybe that would be great to upload picture of funders too and stick it to application. But that is up to YC :-)
Re:Ask HN: Wondering how many people applied to YC 3 times or more? on Sunday October 24, 2010 @05:52PM (#1827425)
About previous ideas: 1) 3 years ago it was a business networking website. Where people could exchange, hold business cards.

2) Second idea was booking appointment calendar for doctors, layers and personal trainers...kinda electronic appointment secretary...
