And just over there in the ocean is his ship, Loki.
I created a sample app using Puma and Celluloid to work through similar troubles I was having with Sinatra's streams and Puma. If it helps, it's here:
https://github.com/sdeming/cellfun. This does not use EventMachine, depending instead on Celluloid. I work primarily in JRuby and EventMachine has always tripped me up.
These are fun.
In C++, make the compiler do your recursion:
#include <iostream>
template <int N>
void pr(const std::string &msg)
{
std::cout << msg << std::endl;
pr<N-1>(msg);
}
template <>
void pr<0>(const std::string &msg)
{
}
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
pr<100>("Hello World");
return 0;
}
2/29 is a good date. 3/14 would have been much more in tune with the Raspberry Pi name.
I'll go out a limb here. It seems like it was too easy and too valuable. Smells like a Trojan Horse. Who knows what Iran will be getting themselves into when they move the thing to some "secure" location. Oh, I do likes a good conspiracy...
Don't be sad. Competition and innovation are good things. XMPP and IRC aren't perfect solutions. I haven't seen this app in action so I can't comment on the "doing it poorly" part, but can you elaborate on that? What is poor about the implementation?
Indeed, if you haven't tried it yet then you absolutely should. I highly recommend Just Cause 2, it's a huge game and it plays perfectly. You can play any game for 30 minutes without spending a penny.
Disclaimer: I wish I was an investor.
Isn't GC pause good enough reason for anything of this kind? I'm perhaps not up to date in the latest JVM GC performance profiles, but if shaving even a few usec is important then I'd think avoiding it altogether is paramount.
I'd say forward for sure. This breaks down the barriers to entry for a lot of folks, especially in enterprise land. Definitely looking forward to how this develops.
This sure sets the table for spinning off the DVD rental product. Prior to this arrangement the two were practically inseparable.
I first learned about this guys work in The Music of the Primes by Marcus du Sautoy. Excellent read for anyone interested in these topics. I understand maybe one hundredth of the mathematics and it's still seriously fascinating.
Gotta be Sneakers. Incredible cast and well written.
What's not to love about Darth Vader answering "We are the United States government, we don't do that sort of thing." to the simple request for "Peace on earth, good will towards men" seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHsUYF5VfQ0
Agreed. It almost feels like we're being herded into indentured servitude. Share a song you like? That'll be $40MM please. "Can't pay? We have this hole we need dug... On Mars... I hear it's cold there."
So scala, clojure, jruby, mirah ... are all ok.
Or even quercus if you are into php.
This sounds fun!
YARV is the VM, it's still MRI (Matz's Ruby Interpreter)
Because:
You get the whole Java ecosystem at your fingers.
It's faster than MRI (1.8.7ish) and a contender (maybe even faster now) against MRI 1.9.2.
It interops with other JVM languages.
It plays nicely with uptight IT departments (you only need to download the jars).
Ohh, looks like you are probably right. Mea culpa!
Yes, but we must solve the problems correctly. The question is whether a number is a power of two, not divisible by 2.
I've a few that I'd like to see used eventually:
* inhaling.com - political satire?
* awk.us - because awk is cool
* grep.us - something unixy and searchy

It's tough to say. You really sound like a reasonable person and if you are the model customer you appear to be then I would probably side with you.
I like a very simple rule: Customer retention is far more important than customer acquisition. It may be a flawed rule, I'm not sure since I'm not a successful business person. But it sounds good to me. It seems vitally important to retain your good customers.
I am a big fan of gnome-shell. I'll be an even bigger fan when it plays nicely with VirtualBox. Or is it VirtualBox that has to play nicely with gnome-shell?
Thanks for this. I just pulled down the molokai theme and it is very pleasant.
Many reasons come to mind, such as not wanting to live in the area you work (maybe you have kids the schools are bad, or the neighborhood isn't real good). It could be that living close to a family member is more important than living close to where you work, like maybe your wife is taking care of her mother or grand mother while you are out working (or the other way around).
There are lots of good reasons. These days you just might be stuck in a mortgage because the value of your house has fallen below what you owe. Given the current "economic climate" it's very easy to have gone from a 70% LTV to 110% LTV.
Legally, probably not. They aren't demanding that you not redistribute, just asking. And asking politely. They are banking on the good nature of people. Good for them! And us.
This has been a pet peeve of mine for a very long time.
Creating a free-form address parser might be a fun project. Validating the addresses might get expensive though. Are there any low cost/free alternatives to a service like Experian's QAS?
What an awesome marriage of Qt and Ruby. Two of my favorite languages and toolkits used appropriately to solve a real problem.
Well done! And thank you for open sourcing this.
Well done!
But it is a compelling reason. Imagine all of the brain cells you can reclaim by forfeiting that C++ error message intuition that you now have.
First we need full C++ coverage in clang. Onward!
This makes for an excellent academic challenge that may actually bear fruit. I'd do it and see where it takes you. The experience alone will be worth it.
I do silly stuff all the time (I'm not calling this idea silly!) and I always take something away from it. This is a much better idea than the stuff I usually come up with.
