And yet, still no simple way to self host the their syncserver (syncstorage-rs) without the mozilla account abomination.
Re:Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy on Thursday September 24, 2026 @05:27AM (#49828234)
Partially true, the largest uranium mines are in Canada, Australia and Namibia, but it is a commodity market and it is way more managable than oil market.

Also, you can stock pile uranium and forget about the market for ten years. Oil strategic reservers requires large infrastructures and usually last only few months.

Re:Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy on Thursday September 24, 2026 @03:39AM (#49827481)
I doubt that number but it would be an improvement: the MW in Italy is far beyond 200 USD/MW in wholesole market.

Btw, it is not completely about price/MW but it is also about sovereignty and... No, there is no U mines in Italy but a commodity market is much more managable than the oil market.

This is discussed here [0]. It is possible and there are a couple of options but there are some catches: LTE is UTC only, GNSS requires much power.

Users will have even have more dump devices and will be forced to use remote and cloud services.

Their history of committment in supporting their hardware is too far from pleasing. I wouldn't touch Google hardware again (other than Pixels) with the tip of my toe.
Re:Rediscovering the Handcart on Sunday April 26, 2026 @07:33AM (#47909463)
Stroller can be seen has specialised handcart.

There is a guy ( Nicolò Guarrera ) who completed a world tour by walk and his tool of choice to transport stuffs was a trekking stroller.

Good for them. Good for "the planet" (and uh... Tesla I suppose). But... most of incentives for the transition has been substantially funded by the nation's massive oil and gas revenues.

I wonder what they will do next with that obscene amount of money.

This smells like DRM and planned obsolescence to me.
In a side news, they announced the death of Fleet.

This is sad for me because I found it good enough to integrate it in my daily workflow.

I hope they at least consider to drop it on GitHub and allow people to give it a chance as community project.

This will be transient. Marketing and companies eventually will find a way to pollute LLMs to bend, comply to their strategies and fuck consumers.

SEO wasn't a thing before '97.

Probably a "scramble suit" [0] or just a tshirt or hoodie with patterns engineered to escape AI recognition [1]

Re:Maria Montessori on Friday February 07, 2025 @12:38AM (#42969775)
Families who choose Montessori school for their children usually avoid them have access smartphone, TV or internet in general.

Also, they are often in the wealthy, upper class so can enforce that kind on environment.

What about sharing GPU across multiple VMs? Isn't Nvidia walled this feature behind unreasonably high price features?
Re:Jellyfin 10.10.0 on Sunday October 27, 2024 @07:16AM (#41961639)
Keep them airgapped or use a smart HDMI stick, their support typically outperform anything from the TV vendor and you can install apps (e.g. Jellyfin) on them. If you dislike Google or Amazon there are some Linux based options.

There is also HDMI over-radio but I don't know its limits (range, bandwidth, latency).

Is this still true in 2024? AFIK, modern ( everything after 2010) ACs, pumps and refrigerator use ozone neutral gas like HFC.
Re:Apple's Blue Ocean on Monday October 30, 2023 @02:53AM (#38066425)
The productivity after the second screen decrease because the software sucks at support those configurations.

With specialized software ( multi track AV) and/or ad hoc setup ( e.g. deeply tuned Linux) the more the screens you throw at it, the better.

Anecdtoal, my retired relative worked in civil avio jet engine industry and they got reports like that since mid-00.

Probably it is more common.

Highly regulated, certificated sector where a single bolt can be dozen time expansive "just" for a FAA approval is an honey jar.

I hope I won't spoil it (it is a book saga from decades ago) but that is a major plot point of Shannara cycle.
HAXE also targets JVM [0] but it is not traditional.

Technology is far from it yet but when I read about AI generated children's book, my thoughts go immediately to The diamond age's "Young Lady's Illustrated Primer: a Propædeutic Enchiridion".
Re:CernVM File System on Friday September 09, 2022 @05:22AM (#32777181)
Yep, I figured it out. I suppose your images are made of large dataset to crunch, for the most part and a smallish part with the R/python/whatever code do execute.
Re:CernVM File System on Friday September 09, 2022 @03:36AM (#32776421)
Digging their repos is interesting. They also proposed a docker driver to lazily download image bits as the files in the overlay are accessed [0] from CernVM-FS; they claim significant drop in process start up time.

They quote something like 8 grand-a-node. It is a bit off the the 'popular' zone.
