What’s a better way to make money than to sell the solution to a problem you created! Don’t let Samsung read this…

Pretty sure AI is more akin to standing on the shoulders of giants and peeing into the wind

So.. they’re being trained on all of the information that some used to make their living with by writing books, presenting seminars, etc. on a topic.. without paying for it, and then giving it all away for free?

Idk if that’s much better

Re:America Didn't Lose Its Rare Earth Industry. It Sold It on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:05PM (#50094282)
I’ve been wondering more and more lately if it was designed this way by whoever made these decisions at the top level to prevent another cold-war standoff situation.

By requiring the US to rely on often adversarial countries to supply some of its most crucial military components like rare earth minerals, the US couldn’t really go toe to toe with those countries.

I’m just not sure if they factored in the rapid technological rise of those adversarial countries like China.

Or maybe it really is the simplest answer that it was all purely in effort to obtain the greatest profit margins…

There’s even more hospitals and clinics who have a radiology department but no Radiologist onsite to read the exams. It’s all sent offsite to remote Radiologists sometimes 100+ miles away.

Disrupt the internet and good luck getting your emergent studies read by doctors who don’t look at anything to do with the scans and X-rays they order other than the Radiologists report.

I’d be willing to bet many more HN users work for companies who are the ones creating unnecessarily network connected smart devices than work in infrastructure, trades, retail-adjacent positions that implement/use many of these network connected devices.

Lots of completely out of touch comments

I mean, it seemed mobile enough for that tv presenter to get caught on a plane being a pedo on IRC
Free? I don’t think a monopoly knows the meaning of that word

I wonder how Tolkien would’ve thought about the use of LotR names being used by all these AI and tech companies.. especially since they all seem to use the names of things that were corrupted by darkness.
I thought The Incredibles handled them already?!

Same. It feels pretty messed up to lose that much storage on a 256gb device.

What a great idea! I never would’ve thought of a Yubikey for this
I mean, Luigi did, no? If we are to believe the narrative that he is who did it.
I don’t think it’d get to that point but maybe. I’m imagining more events like Luigi (not condoning violence just equating situations)
It’s wild to me that anyone can have that thought and yet not think about what happens to everyone whose job you took. Especially in a country with citizens known for owning guns.

Especially after seeing what the “learn to code” movement has brought people into, I can’t imagine those people will just roll over and peacefully enter homeless encampments..

I don’t think they enjoy sharing the road with you any more than you do with them. Maybe we could encourage our elected representatives to install more bike friendly infrastructure like bike trails and bikeways

Just don’t forget to get your wax touched up afterwards, spandex scuffs your hood a surprising amount!

This is so sick! Apologies if I missed it but is there more info on how you did the mounting for the folding monitor stations?

I love the cat doors everywhere! Great idea to keep the litter boxes sequestered.

Howdy from Houston fellow Texan!

How neat! Would be cool to see the side by sides of equivalent tier CPU’s throughout the generations

I wonder why? Genuinely, not sarcastically
Unfortunately it seems like considering the cost to those around you is becoming a dying art

Well this sure makes Wordle feel a lot easier!
When I went to school for radiography (X-ray) in 2024 I got an additional scholarship for being a male in a female dominated field (healthcare), I believe it’s pretty common? I think it was apart of the FASFA or something, been a minute though.

The more everyone the better! There are definitely times when it’s nice to have some guys with muscles around when it comes time to transfer a non ambulatory patient to an X-ray or CT table, but the ladies get it done too!

Kinda surprised A&M’s letting them use AI to write these things
Or does it show where popular opinion is going?

Keep in mind I’m not a doctor, just the guy who takes your images, but I believe it’s all liability. I really wouldn’t want to be a doctor from all the crazy stories of liability stuff I hear everyday.

I empathize with you as my grandmother is also being what feels like gaslit by several doctors being told her symptoms are dementia and not from the chronic UTI’s she suffers from, but when the UTI’s clear all of a sudden no symptoms. Our medical system is very frustrating, between doctors who don’t have the time needed for complicated cases, or the threat of every patient suing them causing them to be overly cautious.

I think as long as you’re aware of the pitfalls of AI, as you seem to be, it’s a solid tool for helping to understand medical situations with the right amount of double checking.

I don’t think our system will improve until 1) We increase the amount of doctors in our country and tell Congress to quit limiting the amount we can train yearly, and 2) the system of liability for doctors is changed to be more like New Zealand’s where their liability insurance is nationalized and they’re not at constant threat of losing everything to a lawsuit over a patient who wouldn’t take their meds and got worse (the cases are generally much more complex than that, but the idea is it’s not always the doctors fault as media would have us believe).
