It's representative of their commerce which is the real economic activity in their country.

Most wealth in China are calculated from real estate which doesn't generate any economic activity on it's own and they build more houses than they will live in. Most US wealth are actually from real corporation flow.

The section 8 people in the US lives better than an average worker in a tier 1 city. Their apartment rentals are inhuman and they make 1/10 of American minimum wage. They can't get a gf and have to resort to prostitutes because of the gender inbalance. Even homeless people have gfs in the US.

Fable 5.5 about to drop the hammer on them and then another Astra version goes out lol.
you think China is winning?

China is already in a depression and is just recovering, youth unemployment is high and it has maxed out development.

Government stats lies all the time you only need to look at their stock market for the real info.

Re:Muse Wonder on Monday October 12, 2026 @01:40PM (#50059940)
Claude is waiting for this to drop fable 5.5 lol.

100% agree with this. It should be an mcp or a chatgpt plugin
Re:Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet? on Monday October 12, 2026 @03:45AM (#50052799)
this one sucks, don't use it
Because the free api is mispriced, opus 5.5 on subscription is 10x cheaper. Also, the use case for flash models are

For coding, I rather spend 10x more than have even 1 bug but I'm only spending 2x 3x more if you count subscription cost.

This is a killer use case for something like customer support though.

Re:Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet? on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @02:59AM (#49905388)
I 100% believe the models are being nerfed and feel it when I use it. Launch day LLM + the week it's released is fantastic. After they get all the press the nerfing starts. When they release a new model sometimes it's not significantly better, it's just not nerfed.

A step in the right direction! Can't wait for the government omni app
Re:Alibaba releases Qwen 3.8 Omni Flash on Friday September 18, 2026 @01:59AM (#49750623)
Great engineering schools and good tech companies to train them post graduation.

Europe has none;

The best tech university in Europe when compared to Chinese/US equivalents won't even rank in the top 10.

Re:Show HN: Huzzah – a novel approach to coding with AI on Friday August 21, 2026 @04:11AM (#49385240)
To me it's not useful because the level of granularity is off from the level I am currently working with.

Also it creates a uniform level of granularity. The great thing about AI coding is that you can go deep and detailed in hard sections and just plain ignore the simple stuff.

You can love it or hate it but it's unforgettable

Branding is crazy good
Re:Gemini 3.7 Flash on Friday August 14, 2026 @01:09AM (#49294940)
It's just useless to build any model in this range because deepseek flash is so fast and so cheap. I see no reason for anyone to not use it for a few points in performance.

Only models that matter are the edge fable class models people use for code, and Google struggled with that.

Re:Grok Bot on Wednesday August 12, 2026 @04:16AM (#49269272)
how does this compare to Hermes which is much cheaper?
Re:Bonsai: Janestreet's UI Library on Monday August 03, 2026 @07:51AM (#49154525)
I am sure it's very performant, but to me it's extremely ugly; Surely someone can fix margins and still have it be performant.
Re:Karpathy's Pelican on Monday August 03, 2026 @02:00AM (#49151738)
I think the argument for the pelican is if it cannot do a simple thing perfectly. A more complex thing is just a stacking a small errors.
Chinese open models are only push Anthropic and Open AI to innovate more, they are a good thing.

If they don't want distillation attack they should use KYC.

Malaysia is just a wrong place for innovation of this level.

This is a good move in the long run for Balaji and Malaysia.

Re:Kimi K3 is now live on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @10:12AM (#49007160)
Sure, China will build a lead in robotics, drones and weapon tech.

They will invade Taiwan, US defends, WW3.

If they don't have a military/tech lead, the status quo remains.

Totally agree with all of this. Most of the problems we solve with AI are not one shot, all the bench marks also miss the human components when testing. Thinking alongside with a human and coming to a solution is what Fable does better than most other models.
Re:Kimi K3 is now live on Friday July 17, 2026 @01:32AM (#48943646)
The amount of death that would result from WW3 if China wins the AI race is unimaginable.

The lesser of two evils is unleash the edge AI labs financially. US is showing it's strain in generating innovation. Mura Murati's inkling is nowhere near Chinese lab's innovations and she was the previous CTO of openai.

Re:Kimi K3 is now live on Friday July 17, 2026 @01:15AM (#48943555)
The amount of scientific talent in China is astounding, also it's easier to be a fast follower than a innovator.

Instead of limiting models and debating ethics like Anthropic, the edge lab should focus on lengthening the lead on China.

The 2027 Chinese model could be one that beats the US.

Re:Hy3 on Friday July 10, 2026 @02:35AM (#48856493)
There are now 3 tiers of competition:

-Fable + Gpt 5.6 Sol

-Opus + Gpt 5.6 Terra + Grok 4.5 + Muse Spark 1.1

-Open Chinese models: GLM + et family

The economics is on the Fable tier people are willing to spend a lot on it and on the Open tier you have to give it away to drive usage. The bottom tiers are also getting more and more competitive.

Re:ArXiv's Next Chapter on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @02:28AM (#48828294)
Engineers to crawl that content cost money too
Re:ArXiv's Next Chapter on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @02:27AM (#48828280)
The papers can make it free, they can just build a convenient search/retrieval API layer so Open AI and Anthropic don't pay 1-2 engineers a year at 1-2m to crawl and index that info for training.

The AI services have an option then to pay for this service, support a open service, or write their own crawler. I think if every open AI request didn't just do a web search but a more targeted arXiv search the results would be better.

Re:Is The Economist Always Wrong? on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @02:22AM (#48828252)
They are so consistently wrong and out of touch with reality they are the Cramer of publications.
Re:ArXiv's Next Chapter on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @02:26AM (#48742980)
Should charge AI for training on top of it or get them to donate. A small amount can fund them easily.
