Top Gun: Maverick - great class on leading a high performing team.
Re:I Used AI to Fake a Scientific Paper. Here's What Happened on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:30AM (#50289716)
Whenever I read "Here's" in a title, I immediately assume that AI wrote the content.
Re:Counting Sand Dunes in the Simpson Desert on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @03:27PM (#50279488)
I thought this would include a reference to Chilean Insanity Peppers.
Re:AI promised less work. I've never worked more on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:31AM (#50259995)
Yes! This removes a lot of initial resistance, it removes the fear of something not working, so it's easy to "wash the first dish."
Re:No Need for Retirement When Utopia Is Around the Corner on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:28AM (#50210687)
I just saw a Backerkit campaign for an "AI male device." I will let you use your imagination for its purpose. It kind of gave me a bad feeling, like "wtf is in store for humanity?" Although certain men would find it "Utopian."
Re:Why do we have so many meetings? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:40PM (#50169060)
Why do I feel every meeting has a rambling motormouth that will speak for at least 80% of the meeting, making the most obvious, remedial "points" (with illustrative anecdotes of course and repeating them over and over) and then keep the meeting running late?
Re:Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte dies aged 34 on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @05:46PM (#50095827)
If you're insinuating that you had such thoughts, please don't. We love you man!
I love this. Will this guarantee that proprietary/ sensitive/ CUI data won't leak to model training or other parties?
Re:Now That Information Is Free, What's a College Campus For? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:02PM (#50073869)
I learned a lot in college, but living with people my age really helped me socially. I went from a shy nerd who could not make eye contact to the "life of the party" (still a nerd though).
I would host a Gemini protocol server.
Re:You might want to try being less creative on Friday October 09, 2026 @04:09PM (#50025992)
This worked for Rhianna's "Umbrella", Tricky Stewart used a sample from Garage Band for the high hat loop - classic banger!
That sounds awesome.
I meet a lot of parents who say "I never drink" but then say they pound THC gummies.
If you live in the DMV, you can get a free DC library card. You then get free access to Kanopy - a good streaming service with no ads. That could scratch the streaming itch without having to pay for these expensive services.
Re:'That's so AI ' What gen Alpha's biggest insult tells us on Thursday September 24, 2026 @09:30AM (#49830322)
Can confirm my 8 year old uses this to roast as well.
Re:The senior engineer death spiral on Monday September 21, 2026 @01:26PM (#49790370)
> “oh, if I work harder, do a bigger thing, then I will be rewarded with promotions and what have you,” right?

Answer: No.

Re:The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities on Thursday September 17, 2026 @05:14PM (#49746636)
I live next to a college. The Sororities will hold car washes. Of course, they ask us to get out of the car first, so that Cheerleading movie w/ Kristen Dundst lied. :-)
Re:The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities on Thursday September 17, 2026 @05:13PM (#49746615)
I think I may have an autistic affinity for washing machines, but I would LOVE to own a laundromat. I feel like this would fit into the self storage/ car wash category.
Re:Tell the speakers that you liked their talks on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @03:48PM (#49731966)
Take a picture of the Speaker while they talk. So many times they forget to get pictures. Then send it to them on LinkedIn and you will forever be in their messages feed as that "nice person who took my picture."
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @10:24AM (#49713027)
Brilliant! I usually roll my eyes at technical analogies, but yours holds.
Re:I lost $2k on a Retro Grail Shmup on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @11:15AM (#49523104)
Hosted on Gemini (gemini://gemini.lucury/~runamuck/gaiares.gmi) - URL uses Mozz's portal.
I guess I'm a heartless engineer, because I could never imagine myself loving (obsessing over) someone so much that I would feel a need to check in on them 2,000 times.
Re:Mechanical Turk shutting down September 30 on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:07AM (#49464316)
Funny story... an incredibly famous rapper got his start because his manager, Shane Morris used Mechanical Turk to get engagement on Spotify before Spotify began to detect that vector.
Re:Rules of Good Social Skills on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @04:46PM (#49367007)
It means to disagree in a playful, teasing and confident way. You can even take it to an absurd level: "I like your dress except I hate the color blue."
Re:Gateway 2000's hilariously bad ads in the 90s (Part II) on Saturday August 08, 2026 @07:30PM (#49226884)
FWIW I love 90s ads, especially the video game ads. Electronic Gaming Monthly would bombard you with "extreme in your face 'tude" for even the most prosaic games. I loved the Gaiares ad, with a mulleted, chain wearing professional gamer Jamie Bunker saying "this game really smokes."
I decided to put the goal of making friends on "Hard Mode." I quit drinking.
Re:The Lost Civic Life of Movie Rental Stores on Thursday July 30, 2026 @07:02PM (#49116932)
I recommend a group fitness class gym. This brings me much joy and I lost 60 pounds. A positive 3rd space.
