I'd assume shareholders value is still increasing, so it wouldn't be a problem for them.
You are right, this isn't real. It's an 'alternate reality corporation'.
Re:MVC Isn’t MVC on Tuesday June 20, 2023 @04:21AM (#36401118)
It's all just one big state machine.
On my current project, any deploy that we want to do to an AWS environment, including dev, takes at least 10 minutes. So, as soon as you have to work on AWS functionality, you are transported to the past, similarly to the programmers of old. I'm not saying this is a bad thing actually, just to note that we still haven't managed to eliminate the "turn-around time".
Funny, me experience is quite opposite. Also in eastern europe, takes me 30 minutes on foot to get to the office. And the walk is quite enjoyable!
Re:27 years later and the Psion 3a is still wonderful on Friday June 02, 2023 @08:53AM (#36164429)
Oh, but what if you had a text based implementation of cyberpunk? Where your imagination is the GPU (the best one there is)
Civil engineers actually have liability, they can go to prison. Software "engineers", not so much.
Hm, could we write a program to generate these templates?
Re:Liberating the MacBook Air 2013 with Linux on Wednesday April 05, 2023 @07:09AM (#35452186)
Hm, I disagree. I have two desktops that I dualboot with windows 10 and various linux distros, currently ubuntu lts. If you install windows first then linux, it should work ok.
Re:Pause Giant AI Experiments: An Open Letter on Thursday March 30, 2023 @09:36AM (#35372474)
Hm, maybe a Boston dynamics robot could drop a USB in front of NORAD?
Re:Use the XDG Base Directory Specification on Friday March 24, 2023 @05:22AM (#35286816)
I actually just make my personal home directory in the root of the filesystem. So /me. If /root can have it, why can't I? It is my machine after all.
Re:Germany Will Move Forward with Marijuana Legalization on Thursday March 16, 2023 @11:42AM (#35183405)
>By the same logic we'd criminalize pissing in public places

Is public urination not a crime? One that gets you on a sex offender registry?

Re:Germany Will Move Forward with Marijuana Legalization on Thursday March 16, 2023 @11:40AM (#35183380)
But people won't smoke a pack of joints a day. Only, like, one per week or so.
Re:ChatGPT-Linux-Assistant on Wednesday March 08, 2023 @10:54AM (#35070552)
I'm quite excited for conversing with next generations of AI using COBOL. All those people saying COBOL is dead will finally be proven wrong!
Re:World Building with GPT on Tuesday February 28, 2023 @10:28AM (#34970350)
I mean, reading this article, seems like the author still had to put in a lot of work to get something decent. Kinda makes GPT not look like an all powerful content generator: it steels need a human to use it correctly.
Re:CoffeeScript for TypeScript on Tuesday February 28, 2023 @08:31AM (#34969069)
Oooh, that should be the motto!
Re:NetHack 3.6.7 on Friday February 17, 2023 @04:34AM (#34832693)
Yeah, as sibling said, they are quite different games actually. Rogue to me feels a lot more minimalist, while nethack is 'everything AND a kitchen sink!'.
Re:How do ADHD people cope on here? on Tuesday January 24, 2023 @10:10AM (#34504495)
Keep fighting the good fight my man!
Re:Doomgeneric: Make Porting Doom Easier on Tuesday January 24, 2023 @07:48AM (#34502926)
or pong
This sounds like a (horrible) way to implement universal basic income. Just hire puffer people, have them do nothing. They get fired, hire them somewhere else, rinse, repeat.
Re:Way fewer people are creating new podcasts these days on Monday January 23, 2023 @09:47AM (#34489349)
I disagree with this. I prefer walking without listening to anything, I find it helps me actually come up with ideas and thoughts of my own.
Re:Facebook Container Extension by Mozilla Firefox on Thursday January 19, 2023 @04:53AM (#34438507)
Another thing you can do, hold left click on the new tab button. You will get a drop-down where you can chose which container to open the tab in.
Re:The Quest for a Dumber Phone on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @04:58AM (#34425050)
But hey, it is more redundant in a way. Your phone broke/battery emptied? You still have your trusty gps device.
Re:The Quest for a Dumber Phone on Wednesday January 18, 2023 @04:49AM (#34425004)
Wow that is actually a good startup idea.
Re:Revisiting KDE on Monday January 16, 2023 @07:20AM (#34399891)
Hm, it would be cool though, if we could achieve some sort of piping system for graphical applications.
You should see russian pilots in Ukraine using consumer-grade GPS devices for navigation then.
Re:Why T-shaped people? (2018) on Friday December 30, 2022 @05:45AM (#34183821)
Maybe I didn't understand the article correctly, but are there any people, especially on HN, that identify as specialists? By that I mean, they only know one skill, and that's it, they don't consider themselves T shaped.
