i am reading your book now and thoroughly enjoying it!

Learning Go's quite good to get dangerous with Go quickly, so good job!

Re:How Diaries Evolved from Lists to Personal Histories on Monday August 05, 2024 @10:01AM (#41161446)
>I'd like to know how others think about the hypothesis of the pandemic causing the next evolution? With the proliferation of habit trackers and productivity tools. What's begun is focusing less on the spiritual and more on actions.

I have also had thoughts about this. I do think that having time to themselves made some humans (and perhaps humanity as a whole) more reflective.

But also I dont think it's sustainable. Already, most offices have been pushing workers to return. We are sliding back into the old ways.

And people no longer have as much time to reflect, to be thoughtful.

>For my own journal I have chosen to capture more objective facts e.g. the actions in my day-to-day life. And place less effort on recording more subjective reactions like my mood.

I have some reservations about this.

Our moods and feelings tell us a lot about ourselves, things that we are not conscious of.

And writing about these subtle moods and feelings helps me be more conginizant of those things.

>And I think what that experience generally says is that it's a bit overkill. We can do better. Like Rust.

Or OCaml perhaps ? They have taken a very pragmatic approach to fp and allow mutations because thats the pragmatic choice sometimes.

Ask HN: Latest guidelines on how to set up a project in X langauge

Hey HN,A lot of you are probably acquainted with the resource learnxinyminutes. It provides a decently wide peep into a language's syntax and basics. But often that's not sufficient to build anything decent by the latest guidelines/conventions of the language's community. For example, look at this https://matt.sh/python-project-structure-2024. The author has done an excellent job of distilling...

Re:Swift Tooling: Windows Edition on Monday May 20, 2024 @03:42AM (#40413220)
Gotta hand it to The Browser Company for doing so much for Swift lang.

Though I haven't used Swift in production I have enjoyed its ergonomics in my tinkerings with it. So I'd be so glad if Swift is able to break out of its niche into broader usage.

Re:JavaScript Security Cookbook on Sunday May 12, 2024 @10:24PM (#40339266)
Are there other glaring mistakes in this book frequently ?

Do you have suggestions for alternative books dealing with similar topic?

Context: Noob in JS security, but know a decent amount of JS + building apps.

Re:Express 5.0 – Last Push on Tuesday April 30, 2024 @11:25PM (#40219165)
Thanks for the reply.

Curious to know if express v5 would qualify as a "modern" framework (like fastify)?

Re:Express 5.0 – Last Push on Tuesday April 30, 2024 @10:59PM (#40219059)
Where does this version of express put it against its competitors (Koa, Fastify, Hono etc)?
Re:I can't stand using VSCode so I wrote my own on Sunday April 21, 2024 @03:47PM (#40108627)
You didn't mention which editor you were able to edit the large XML in. Just confirming, it was VSCode? Because that'd be amazing!

This is quite useful as I too couldn't remember which is which. Thanks for sharing!

I used to like him but started to feel he keeps ranting about very similar topics a lot:

1. neovim >>> vscode 2. X > JS (X=Rust, Go, OCaml etc)

I feel he doesn't do justice to his seniority and breadth of knowledge.

He, for sure knows a ton. Yet chooses to waste streams on noob topics like editor wars, programming language wars etc.

I much prefer Theo-T3 because he finds interesting topics and really explores tech in depth.

Once again, thank you!

Ask HN: How to counter articles/videos hoarding?

Hi HN,I am a heavy Obsidian user. And part of that is having a running "Reading List", "Videos to watch list" etc.A thing I have noticed is that once these hit over ~ 30 items, they become so big as to become useless.I think in an ideal scenario, I'd like to maintain a list of ~10-20 items that I can peruse and pick something appropriate to read/watch when I have free time. Please suggest a...

I'd rather see these problems than all that the algo throws at me currently.

it may not give a 100% accurate picture. but it's certainly one of the variables that plays into the health of the relationship.

Re:Django 5.0 Is Released on Tuesday December 05, 2023 @04:02PM (#38536858)
Coincidentally, I am just beginning to learn Django.

I have experience with NextJS, Express and Flask.

In the past, Django had intimidated me due to having so many official-sounding files and folder structure and settings etc. So, I had just not given it too much brain cycles.

After having experience with the earlier listed frameworks, I can appreciate some of the things Django gives out of the box. It feels "industry-grade".

Hoping to make fond memories with Django just like the other experiences described here! Happy holidays everyone!

Interesting thought ... could be a kernel of truth there.

I noticed that you published it using Minimal app.

I was curios how I could see other blogs published by you? There didn't seem to be a link pointing to your collection of blogs.

Or is it something else?

fascinating ... the whole react ecosystem has become a bit of a mess with open source contributors and investors (hoping for a return) mixed in.
