Re:UUIDv7 doesn't have the properties you think it does on Saturday October 24, 2026 @02:24PM (#50223790)
I use this pattern in mysql. One row, and one update query gets you a block of IDs. Don't want to attempt to write it out here without looking, but the trick is using the last insert id in the query (and on the result).

It's one query, so shouldn't require a plugin I hope.

Re:UUIDv7 doesn't have the properties you think it does on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:48AM (#50219645)
Use snowflake? It leaks some info, but not nearly as much.
That's why you wouldn't run any of these outside of some sort of sandbox, right? I found that Opus 5 is finally aware from the go that it is started in a specific sandbox and is able to either ask me to enable it somehow or hand off commands for me to run. That's a major improvement over the classic "can't seem to be able to install playwright, let me implement my own browser quickly" when asked to increase font size or something.
Re:GitHub's new dashboard experience now the default on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:37AM (#49943728)
One of the recent features I love the most is that they virtually the same color for symbol highlight and text selection. No visual feedback on double clicking a symbol to see if it is highlighted or not (and it sometimes isn't, because they managed to break that too!). Cannot highlight part of the word that happens to be a symbol either. What a lovely feature. It shows that they are not using the product much anymore.

This is what pissed me off the most. Make it slower, rate limit it, move the credits to other time slots, idk.. but returning BAD results? That's the worst approach you could take.

Re:Let's Ditch Google (Verb) on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @01:31PM (#49911920)
Searching for webpages, at least on google, have died like 10 years ago. Even if you knew the exact domain and words, it wouldn't be able to find it somehow. Always pushing "fresh results", changing your words (quotes or not), translating languages, etc... I tried to be smart and ruined everything that was good about it. On top of that web changed a lot and loads of content moved to private platforms. And now "AI".

> I personally think people sense nerfs more often than they happen and that it's often about honeymoon effects.

I believe in temporary nerfs. Operators reducing quality significantly to increase throughput for whatever reason (high demand?). Same session, model being completly incapable, and it being back to normal the next day. Experienced that with Anthropic models way too many times. Never on weekends, usually during US work days.

It's been a few months since I last recall this though, must have been pre-opus-5. And I know there are benchmarks for this as well, hence "believe".

Re:Prompting Claude Opus 5.5 on Monday September 28, 2026 @10:46AM (#49878859)
The project description said this

> Song: as far as I could find, it comes from this YouTube video from 2024

and I did not investigate further

Re:Prompting Claude Opus 5.5 on Monday September 28, 2026 @06:05AM (#49875721)
One important thing (which might be obvious from the context of this thread, but I still missed it) is that only the video was generated, not audio.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Sunday September 27, 2026 @04:42PM (#49870622)
I was trying to find a song which contained something like "not getting rained on" and google AI just congratulated me that I avoided rain.
Re:Bug: Border radius has infected VSCode editor on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:32PM (#49850835)
I started to use VSCode in 2026. Hardware caught up to it so it's not as slow as I remember (still slow, but fine). It's so noisy. Every cursor move highlights half the screen, at least 3 different searches active at the same time, it's a mess. Can't really write (or read) code in it. Using it for copilot.

> which failed to drive chrome so it wrote its own chrome driver protocol server

This is one of the things I hate the most. Super complicated workarounds which take loads of time (and sometimes money) for even the simplest problems. Human would pause and ask. I would blame harness, not the model though.

Re:GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher on Saturday September 19, 2026 @03:57AM (#49764377)
It obviously is? See above. Or do you not feel the clarification is important? AI being able to solve things no human bothered to try is great, but it is very different from AI solving things humans tried to solve and failed. And the latter is what pops to mind seeing these titles.

Or you could just take cash, as long as you don't need to drive.
Re:Cloudflare Quick Tunnels on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:06PM (#49756421)
I see, good point. Some might be confused about my comment then.
Re:Cloudflare Quick Tunnels on Friday September 18, 2026 @11:55AM (#49756239)
Are we in an age where no one even bothers to open the product pages they generate? The first subtitle with the font color almost matching the background. Or it's even worse that a human looked at it and said "yep, that's OK"?
I don't see why they should sue them if they broke laws. Reporting it should be enough.
People are really bad at acknowledging a mistake so they rather double down. It's way past anything rational, it's a cult. Doesn't matter what the leader/party does, it's always okay.
Re:Homebrew 7.0.0 on Sunday September 13, 2026 @10:11AM (#49684220)
There's been a huge step up in basically everything going from intel to apple silicon. It's not a comparable hardware in any sense, and as such, it really does feel like it became a paperweight? I know I never wanted to see an intel macbook ever again the moment I tried M1. It's maybe hard to comprehend how different it is if you haven't used both. And at the same time I'm happy with my x86 desktop for 10+ years. Only thing that really improved in that span was storage.

So I wouldn't say this applies globally to apple users/products, but the post-intel era is a special case. If nothing else, they are helping the environment by not feeding that (literally) hot garbage with more electricity.

And have worse of both.
Re:Fastpotify on Thursday September 03, 2026 @12:54PM (#49553097)
Spotify (premium) also has preroll video ads.
Re:Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @05:20PM (#49528398)
(not op) It cannot be used to develop applications. Every application needs to be secure in some way, and any such mention in a review triggers Fable's upsell feature.
Re:Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @02:22PM (#49525860)
Nope. Always failed within 2-3 prompts. The most basic REST service you can imagine. Cookies are signed, that's crypto, banned. Completely useless model.
Re:Fastpotify on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @12:29PM (#49524273)
I get ads in podcasts. Not sponsored segments that the podcast creator inserted/narrated themselves (like used to happen), but ad served by Spotify itself, injected into the podcast. Easily 5 minutes in 30 min podcast[1], though this varies and I'm sure it is configurable by the podcast publishers.

1. This is not by feel, Spotify leaks it by displaying the original length and then updated one once it loads.

Re:Fastpotify on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @11:13AM (#49523080)
I'm not complaining and it is a cool project (from what I can tell). But I think it's fair to say 200 MB memory usage is a lot without providing source code as a proof. Just by feel when you recall what were computers capable of when they did not have 100s of MB to spare.
Re:Fastpotify on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @10:25AM (#49522458)
Those numbers only look good in comparison.

I find this kinda funny. Fix the obvious part, better not look at the code.

Re:Fastpotify on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @10:22AM (#49522417)
Isn't it just another ad distribution platform? The amount of ads they started to push to paying(!) users recently makes me want to cancel it every day (but I'm also too lazy to seek alternatives).
Re:Creepy Crawlies on Sunday August 30, 2026 @03:51PM (#49502123)
Now you have a session of sorts and can limit the requests for that client, right? They can be fast, just limited in volume - regular user isn't punished.
