I have been trying to find one of these for "the other 5-letter named editor" What did you google to find it/can you link it? Thanks
I took linear algebra a couple semesters ago in college, and have some matlab/octave scripts that solve linear systems using gaussian elimination, guass-jordan, etc. If you want I can email them to you guys if it would help you guys.

My friends and I were thinking about going to a hackathon that a university hosts. We don't know if we should waste our time, and money to travel down there. Our skills are average to above average, and seeing that this is at a ivy league university I don't know if we can hold our own. Just in general how hard are hackathons?

I know there are post out there about what are good computer monitors, so if someone can link them that would be great, or mention what is a good computer monitor for coding, but still be an everyday monitor

How do you find time to work on your personal projects(While working a 40+ hour work week)? In my case I am currently interning in a IT related job, so I am staring at a computer screen for 8+ hours a day. By the time I get home the last thing I want to do is sit down and stare into another computer screen. The only real time I get to work on personal projects in late at night on weekdays for...

I don't know if HN already has a thread like this somewhere, but every month I see the who's hiring post, and after digging around in there most companies are looking for someone with 5+ or so years of work experience. I think we need to have a who's hiring college grads/entry level post started every month. Any thoughts?
I feel the same way in that all of the fast pace start ups and tech industry is in the valley. If you don't live there it feels like you are missing out. On an other note, I am a college computer science major with a lot of programming experience interesting in brainstorming with others to get a start up going. Email is in profile.

I am trying to develop an iphone application that needs to connect to a database. After about an hour of googleing I found that there a lot of ways to go about doing this(SQLite database locally on the iphone, MYSQL wrapper class to connect to a database, and many other). What is the best method or convention most developers use? Does the iphone SDK have any built in NS objects to connect to...

Are there any open source project on github or anywhere that have project that are like for beginners to a language and are easy to understand(well commented) and some how educational?
I find that I am able to code a more rapid speed, when under the influence, but if I go pass a certain point the quality of my code drop significantly.
Chubb and Son Insurance Group. It would be my second year there, and I found it to be at a slower pace than I was expecting. I guess the insurance industry isn't at a fast pace compared to a software engineer industry.
I was in the same state of mind as you are in. I am a college student majoring in CS. I thought that all my programming projects were easy and only took me a short time to complete each one. However, I also thought I was a average or terrible programmer from looking at other peoples code. Then I realized that there will always be a better programmer out there, either because they have been doing it longer or they are just naturally better. You have to see that you are still a good programmer, but there will always be someone better. Just keep programming, and try to set a schedule for the time management problem and reward yourself for sticking to it.
Big scale:
Trying to move out to California and work as a software engineer at a start-up or one of the big companies. I am a sophomore in college on the east coast, any advice or suggestions?
Small Scale:
Become a better rock climber
Yea there are some geeks out there doing this now it is called ESPN. lol
I am currently a college student majoring in computer science, and I have written very simple iPhone apps. I am looking to learn/develop more intensive apps, and if I could be part of a development team would be great experience. I probably wouldn't be too much help because of my level of skill, but I could do the "bitch" work of the project. I am just looking for experience. Tell me if you are interested. Thank you.
Advance memory allocation uses linear algebra. Also graphics and shadows in game use transpose matrices. A lot of algorithms use linear combination and other linear algebra.
Sounds like at great idea, I already signed up. Thanks can't wait to start.
Are you looking for potential business partners/programmers based on who excels in the 30 days, or you just really want to teach that badly?
Student at Penn State majoring in CS. Anyone else???
The project is for one of my courses, and I am going to to what I outlined above I was just trying to get some more ideas from other people. We are...Penn State.

I am a CS student at Penn State, and for a class I have to come up with a project that makes use of networking sockets connecting to a MySQL data base, HTML 5, and real time synchronization of the data in the data base. My idea was the create a website in which that the user is able to submit code in multiple languages(one at first) and save it to the data base. All code is visible to...
