It still is global warming globally. But locally it's climate change, the overall warming has some local chaos.
The jobmarket is "unfair", we all have different conditions and earn a different wages. Suddenly when Musk hates WFH he cares about fairness?
Why stop here?

Some workers have shifts, some have to work outside in the rain.

It's only fair that everyone works outside in the rain in shifts?

Both did it themselves instead of public procurement/public tender.
Re:How to fuck up an airport on Sunday July 03, 2022 @01:32PM (#31969383)
TLDR:

* All the public bids where too expensive. so the City decided to be it's own contractor, it must be cheaper.

* Keep changing plans, double the size .. after starting construction.

* Hire an architect that hates shops, change all plans again to add shops.

* Start paying contractors by time instead of by job, they start stealing.

* because of all the changes : stairs don't fit, cable management is broken, firesafety doesn't work.

* Don't fuck with german firesafety, they won't approve it, and you can't bribe them.

16 years later: opening with a capacity that is far below what's needed.

Does he have a name? What has he published before? Is he even an expert in the field?

Re:Why are German numbers backwards? on Sunday November 28, 2021 @07:46PM (#29374999)
Why is it thirteen instead of ten-three?

Because lanuages are illogical, with lots of historic baggage.

Agree, millionare is not wealthy.

I'm a javascript developer.

if mutable is expensive, and should be difficult then "let mut" makes more sense.

var looks like a default to me, not a special case that needs care.

Being in the team that created rust would look great on any CV. I think millionaire is reachable for many of them.

It does not stop all those companies using linux. The Jeff Bezos days are over.

If you use a GPL library and don't make the main work GPL you're committing copyright infingement. Your work will never magically become GPL.

The missing tuition support is really harsh, especially if Turing is for the US

We fail at manual state-management, and the mostly used patterns we are using are complex leaky abstractions.

So the schools where fraudulous, the solution is to reward the system by helping their victims and have no sanction on the school?
Even if there are workarounds for this specific problem, the signal being sent is clear.

Louis is a repair guy, not some guy working "for his sponsors."

The camera is an example of unrepairability.

Re:Right to Repair Gaining Momentum on Tuesday March 16, 2021 @01:47PM (#26480256)
There are no 3rd party iphone camera's for recent iphones.

Apple blocks replacing an iphone camera with an iphone camera using their software.

iPhone 12 is unrepairable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnG3h3Jewq4

How is a 3rd party battery related to replacing an apple iphone camera with an apple iphone camera?

Re:Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe? on Wednesday January 13, 2021 @03:38PM (#25767653)
Adding more reasons:

Europe as a single entity is problematic, there's a north-south gradient, the cold war east-west divide, and EU/non EU.

* Switching jobs was less common, there used to be loyalty from both sides.

* It's easy to get competent workers from outside of "western" europe with a matching culture and timezone. I've seen a switch from outsourcing to poland(former east) to the ukraine(non EU+east). This is good for the polish guys, they're almost at our level now.

* Residence requirements for people outside of the European continent are low, and on base wage mostly lower than for any other sector.

This makes the wages more internationally competitive from a business perspective, and hooks into "Individual contributors in Europe are not as valued as much as managerial professions" Because you can get the work from somewhere else cheaper.

Re:Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler on Saturday January 09, 2021 @09:57PM (#25708682)
Where do we draw the line on Infrastructure regulation?

The network, the platform-provider, the platform?

There is precedent for regulating the network. And Parler can run it's own server . I think there is enough competition in the platform space to allow platforms to regulate themselves.
