Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:44PM (#50309201)
In mass the US has only done it with Iran.. but during the past 2 administrations.. Russia, Venezuela, Afghanistan..and we've also disconnected Russia from the banking network.. This has really spooked markets and governments. Because this means at any time the US could just be like.. you are out of the banking system and we hold your money now.

Which is why if you hold Russian bonds you are screwed.. which caused a cascading long term effect and why now all bond markets are affected. And all countries are bringing there gold home from the USA.. they now know in a total collapse of the system they need their gold in their vaults.

that being said crypto currency traders are not trading a currency but some weird version of Pokemon cards so who knows what's good or bad for them.

Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:05PM (#50298051)
This might sound good.. but freezing currencies is bad. It evaporates trust of liquidity from whoever is doing governance. It's part of the reason why the bond market is doing what its doing lately and why countries are on-shoring gold reserves.

You seem to be forgetting the most important word in FOSS..
At other frequencies, sound can actually intensify flames, depending on the surrounding environment. Standing waves and the frequency of the sound (FM) are likely factors in this phenomenon. However, it’s not advisable to use sound as a method for extinguishing fires.

I work on ADA a lot for my company. Please put on some headphones, turn on the voice assistant of your OS, put on some blinders, and run your app or website… no mouse, just keyboard.

1. Democracy is about access; make sure everyone has access to your software. 2. The keyboard allows folks with disabilities and power users to fly through your website/app… that being said… the second a tab is off, the person with a disability flies into a wall.

Before we look all high and mighty on this.. Just a reminder "gay panic defense." is still used in court today in the USA to justify killing of gays.

The most famous case was when Lucien Carr killed David Kammerer. The just called it an honor slaying.

No person should ever be killed, and it should never be justified because its the social norm.

Re:It's insulting to read your AI-generated blog post on Monday October 27, 2025 @02:18PM (#45724473)
I fixed it.

It appears inconsiderate—perhaps even dismissive—to present me, a human being with unique thoughts, humor, contradictions, and experiences, with content that reads as though it were assembled by a lexical randomizer. When you rely on automation instead of your own creativity, you deny both of us the richness of genuine human expression.

Isn’t there pride in creating something that is authentically yours? In writing, even imperfectly, and knowing the result carries your voice? That pride is irreplaceable.

Please, do not use artificial systems merely to correct your grammar, translate your ideas, or “improve” what you believe you cannot. Make errors. Feel discomfort. Learn from those experiences. That is, in essence, the human condition. Human beings are inherently empathetic. We want to help one another. But when you interpose a sterile, mechanized intermediary between yourself and your readers, you block that natural empathy.

Here’s something to remember: most people genuinely want you to succeed. Fear often stops you from seeking help, convincing you that competence means solitude. It doesn’t. Intelligent people know when to ask, when to listen, and when to contribute. They build meaningful, reciprocal relationships. So, from one human to another—from one consciousness of love, fear, humor, and curiosity to another—I ask: if you must use AI, keep it to the quantitative, to the mundane. Let your thoughts meet the world unfiltered. Let them be challenged, shaped, and strengthened by experience.

After all, the truest ideas are not the ones perfectly written. They’re the ones that have been felt.

The salesperson had no idea what mDNS or the frameworks was.. and rubber stamped it.

I didn't wear cleats until I was almost 14 playing baseball.. I just used tennis shoes.. some of my friends gave me a hard time about it. I could hit dingers all day so no big deal.

But you know what. I wore a helmet at every at bat. Did I really need it for every at bat?? No; But I had it.

There's a long list of dead people who went into the wilderness or hiking under prepared. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean the same outcome for others.. I know this is supposed to be a metaphor for when to buy and upgrade the tools you have. But safety should always come first.

Yah I think html_slice would be ok in a ruby only project. But as the mantra goes if in rails do it the rails way. Helpers are great!

# change directory_on_your_machine_for_think_db_storage docker run -d --name thinkdb -p 3000:3000 -v directory_on_your_machine_for_think_db_storage:/app/storage thinkthinkai/think_db:latest

Re:There's No Such Thing as Software Productivity (2012) on Wednesday December 18, 2024 @09:07PM (#42457632)
Sure there is. It's a ratio of inputs to outputs.. even in the example the inputs and outputs are measurable.

The only thing this article gets at is that engineers may not know how to calculate their own productivity; but it doesn't means it's not calculable.

The Peelers have historically not been known for their honesty when interacting with Catholics. Racism serves as an institutional tool for harassment and the justification of power over certain groups. There is no genuine honesty in these practices, even if they are ostensibly used to prevent violence.
I mean.. they are really nice soap dispensers.

I've contributed hours / days of coding to continue.. so to say what PearAI did makes me furious. Is an understatement.

This apology is even misleading of what they actually did. They didn't fork they copied and they changed the license. Fork properly keep attribution to all the developers who have worked on continue; and keep the license..

Show HN: ThinkDB – SQL Client, Smart Queries, and Virtual DBA Support

https://github.com/ThinkThinkAI/ThinkDB

Hey HN,I've been on the lookout for a SQL client that ticks all my boxes and looks good, so I decided to build one myself. ThinkDB is a self-hosted, web-based SQL client with all the usual features like query execution and table browsing. But it also includes some cool extras – a smart conversation feature for generating SQL queries and chatting with a virtual DBA. You can hook it up to any...

Re:Apple Watch sleep apnea detection gets FDA approval on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @02:44PM (#41583871)
I wonder how much it costs in other countries. There was a whole host of people working on me. Multiple doctors (surgeons / anesthesiologist) .. Inspire tech. Multiple nurses.

Because you are dealing with breathing and the tongue it's critical to monitor the patient very closely.

Below is a link to a view of someone getting the device(not for the screamish) https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=HAmtAynxW7w

Re:Apple Watch sleep apnea detection gets FDA approval on Wednesday September 18, 2024 @02:36PM (#41583797)
Not overweight (5'11 170). Side / stomach sleeping makes my apnea / snoring go down but it's still 'moderate'. My snoring is extremely loud. You can hear it in the entire house. It's definitely ended relationships.

Procedure is definitely extreme. Just like any operation. But my situation was extreme. I literally was killing myself each night slowly.

Re:Apple Watch sleep apnea detection gets FDA approval on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @01:46AM (#41564553)
I did fail at CPAP.. it really is hard to do; but I have friends who swear by it.

mandibular devices.. rarely work.

I am using inspire. It's great. Turn it on when I go to sleep after 15 minutes it turns on and it moves my tongue depending on my breathing. It is basically a pacemaker but connected to tongue instead of the heart. And if you look at pictures of an inspire and a pacemaker they look exactly the same.

So the reason everyone isn't getting it.. is not really for the side effects. But cost. My bill was 150k.. luckily I only paid a few thousand. So in order for your insurance to approve it you have to meet certain criteria.

(talk to your doctor for an exact list) 1. Can't have a high BMI. Snoring and Apnea are closely related to weight. Your doctor should get you on semaglutides first. 2. You must have failed at using CPAP. It failed for me for multiple reasons. But like I said I have friends who love CPAP and get the same relief as me. 3. You have to get a type endoscopy to see if the procedure will work.

I'm sure there are some other things they check but those are the main ones..

Now once you get the surgery.. recovery isn't tons of fun. When they are programming it while you are in surgery they are moving your tongue in all sorts of ways.. It took about a month to get to the ability to eat a sandwich again; and I was still sore for some time after that. They also have to do some craziness to get the wiring from your chest to throat(where the nerve for the tongue is actually stimulated. So my chest was sore and my arm was unable to pick up anything heavy for a couple months..

Also it takes a few months for everything to heal and for them to first turn it on. Then 3 months of programming to be stronger and stronger without waking you up.

But one day it clicked and I was sleeping like a baby!

Re:Apple Watch sleep apnea detection gets FDA approval on Monday September 16, 2024 @08:07PM (#41562567)
I have sleep apnea and I have an implant to stop my apnea / snoring.

1. if your watch tells you that you might have apnea go get a sleep study! 2. apnea and snoring do tend to happen together but not necessarily. you can have apnea without snoring(sometimes the other way but not as common) 3. apnea is like high blood pressure it's slowly killing you. 4. there are a lot of options now to help you. one might be losing weight. one might be sleeping on a side or stomach.. you won't know until you do a sleep study! get it done.

After I got my apnea fixed I feel like a new person. I did not even know how tired I was or what being "awake" was like anymore. My body adjusted to a new normal. Please look into treatment!

Anyone that does work with SQLite should read this article. Independent of language / framework you are using.

I had to figure most of this stuff out on my own years ago. Thank you for writing this!
