News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

rolstenhouse

Congrats on the launch! I've tried building a windows automation script myself but found existing solutions quite cumbersome booking appointments and fetching information on a desktop SMS.

Can I monitor/manage this remotely? I'm not on site with the client and previously tried to manage through AnyDesk but the client often turned off the machine.

Also is there anyway to run this so that it won't interrupt workflows while someone is using the machine? I imagine a solution could just be having the client run an extra computer that's dedicated for this or running after hours on the local machine.

Scheduled a demo

This is cool. Built an iOS app to do this for myself six months back, but it falls over to pretty basic IVR navigation.

Any transactional call should be handled by AI on both sides.

I've often been running several claude code sessions across separate terminal tabs. Was a user of chorus.sh and excited to try another product from y'all! Congrats
This is cool. I have a pet project around building voice-enabled toys I'd love to have this level of control when narrating.

Re:Show HN: Practice for the YC interview on Thursday April 25, 2024 @06:41PM (#40163980)
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!

1. Yeah definitely not clear what's going to happen when you click "start interview". I'll edit the description to be clear what you're getting. 2. Definitely need to be clear on what's saved/retained. 3. Totally missed that and now I can't unsee it. Something wonky going on w/ text area. Taking a look

Show HN: Practice for the YC interview

https://mock-yc.vercel.app/

I've been blown away by speech-to-speech LLMs lately and was looking for a fun little website to build. Enter mock YC interviews. When I first applied to YC, I used iPG (https://jamescun.github.io/iPG/) to practice and get comfortable with the YC-style interview. Spoiler: I ended up getting in.This took me a few hours to go from scratch to production. Would highly suggest playing around with...

Re:Amazon offers a live shopping experience on Tuesday February 23, 2021 @01:43PM (#26241068)
Given all the investor enthusiasm around live-shopping, was surprised to see Amazon live running a QVC-esque program
I’ve been frustrated time and time again with Google Drive’s clunky UI and search ability to find relevant docs and files, especially when projects have taken on different names.

Sortado is a chrome extension that adds a sidebar to your Google doc to make it faster to organize and find files. We’ve been using it at our company, and I wanted to take the product and make it available to others. I took notes from Notion’s sidebar, but I honestly just prefer the UI and accessibility of Google Docs, so wanted to customize it to make a better experience :)

Re:Unofficial APIs on Wednesday May 20, 2020 @01:26PM (#23249456)
I'm actually the current owner of this repo!! I started it because I love working with unofficial APIs for fun hacks that improve my life. During college, I had an alert that told me when the Krispy Kreme donuts were fresh built off an unofficial API that promised enjoyable donuts.

If you're interested, I have a newsletter to update you when new repos are added https://forms.gle/e8nCivpTBNftNtgGA and to feature interesting stories from the community.

Re:Show HN: A Python Library to Send iMessages on Thursday May 14, 2020 @09:28PM (#23187829)
py-imessage is a lightweight library you can use on your mac to send iMessages.

It was originally started to build an API for iMessages which anyone could pay for; however, Apple has fairly aggressive detection policies that make it difficult to scale.

Re:Ask HN: What's your favorite unofficial API? on Monday May 11, 2020 @03:15PM (#23145836)
One of my favorite hackathon projects was using an unofficial Robinhood API (https://github.com/sanko/Robinhood) to ask Alexa how a current stock was doing. If it had increased over the last year, I would ask Alexa to "purchase X shares of X stock".

Writing joke apps is a fun way to try out a new programming language and laugh about it.

Re:Show HN: Balto, an API to Send iMessages on Friday March 27, 2020 @08:09PM (#22708032)
Yes. There's a mac mini running which directly interfaces with the Messages app and underlying data storage. There's been a few synchronization problems, but for the most part the Messages platform is fairly robust. Unfortunately, there's a couple sleep statements that I had to write in for the short term, but there's a path to removing them in the long term.
Re:Show HN: Balto, an API to Send iMessages on Friday March 27, 2020 @04:25PM (#22706518)
Hey HN, proud to share balto, an API to send iMessages from a new phone number. I originally built this out to take advantage of the iMessage features (specifically read receipts and videos) after sadly learning that these features are severely limited when using Twilio or other SMS providers.

From there I went down a crazy rabbit hole, talking to apple support, shopping on eBay for an old iPhone, digging through poorly documented JXA (javascript to control your mac), and eventually landing on a MVP which today supports sending new iMessages from a custom phone number and looking at read receipts (if the other party has them turned on); with many more features on the way (think full videos, audio recording, tapbacks, group chats, etc.)

Love this community and the valuable feedback y’all provide!

Re:Show HN: Screenshots in Chrome, Globally Available on Saturday March 14, 2020 @12:04AM (#22573097)
I'm flexible on monetization patterns for now, but if this were to take off, I'd imagine it'd be some sort of team-based pricing for teams heavily using it and introducing a collaboration-first experience.

Looks super useful. I'm all for eliminating steps in typical workflows. I've never been at a company that used Dropbox so didn't even know it existed.
