Same with ag output, but we have a futures market for that.

I'd bet money they're capturing every change made by any agent, not just at the end of a 'task' (or even a turn). Free training material volume to see what was changed and then what was changed later in the same turn to fix the mistakes introduced.
Re:Scaling Git at OpenAI on Monday November 02, 2026 @09:58PM (#50347467)
This is obviously just a response to https://www.anthropic.com/research/redesigning-source-contro.... Probably no one in the chain of writing this even thought about your question.

Very curious about the details and why it’s unfixable. Is it just because timezones are such a mess it’s logically impossible to satisfy every constraint?

> one guy won’t have the personal bandwidth to spend so much that the “unlimited” part actually matters

I see you haven’t met my coworkers and their fanatical use of parallel “workflows”

Front tire just pulls one way or another; you don’t even have to be a decent driver to deal with it.

Rear tire would be more impressive, it’ll try to fishtail.

Re:Behind the scenes at the NeXT Computer office on Monday October 26, 2026 @12:20AM (#50239073)
I'm 27. Posts like this fill me with a weird kind of... melancholy? Sadness? A feeling of having missed out?

At some level I know I'm seeing these pictures through rose-colored glasses, and these early-ish tech folks had plenty of gripes about office life. But man, I came into the workforce just in time for the idea of "working with people in person" to die. And I like working from home, but... man, working on truly new stuff, in person, with people who also care, looks like it was so much fun.

Yeah, this has echos of that Uber incident in Phoenix where the lady was jaywalking across a divided highway.

This sounds like first order thinking.

Really appreciate it. You sound like a great friend to hang out with.
Re:It's still OK to enjoy programming on Monday October 19, 2026 @12:38PM (#50154531)
You sound like you're processing this well. I think I'm in the group of people you're talking about who aren't processing it well. What kind of conclusions have you come to regarding that list (what you work on and how, finances, kids, etc.)?
Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @01:49PM (#50133272)
Question for dang and co - does HN allow a new user with this comment history to continue commenting?
Re:Tesla Roadster on Saturday October 17, 2026 @08:54AM (#50130696)
Huh? They said clearly that the car recharges them itself. Source?
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:27PM (#50126143)
There’s at least two of us!

From one non-miserable person to another: the trick to a happy life is to not engage with people whose minds cannot be changed. Tesla haters and Apple haters are on that list, and you’re replying to someone who is both.

Their ambitions are to sell products that work. I’m a customer because I want the newest stuff that has the kinks worked out.

Idk if you’ve ever worked on… anything… but the last 10% of the apparent work is the hardest. It’s incredibly ambitious to take an idea from 90% to 100%.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @05:33PM (#50125058)
What cable arrangement would you propose to move a car in that way? I think it would be easier to do with gas thrusters than with cables. They'd get tangled in each other.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @11:24AM (#50119567)
If they used AI to fake a live demo in front of a bunch of people, that would be exceedingly impressive.
Re:Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic on Friday October 16, 2026 @10:57AM (#50119174)
Does the output of Anthropic _feel_ like a company merging 30,000 commits per day?
Yes, Apple reliably lets other manufacturers discover the hard problems, and then Apple solves them. And then residents of HN and Reddit think this is a great zinger every time.

They aren’t disguising the shape. They showed it well-lit from every angle.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:36AM (#50114477)
I suspect the blooper reel is less interesting than we’d expect. SpaceX has demonstrated competency at putting cold gas thrusters on arbitrary masses and making them move as desired.
Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:33AM (#50114459)
Tesla presentations (and Musk presentations generally) have always been weirdly awkward.

As an engineer who dislikes polished presentations of unimpressive things, it encourages me that it’s still possible to do a bad presentation about an amazing thing and (most) people don’t grumble too much.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Friday October 16, 2026 @01:30AM (#50114444)
Is your assertion that the car shaped object we watched drive for a distance and then levitate over a distance was something other than a car that actually flies?

Okay, so I guess it doesn’t fly in the same way a rocket doesn’t fly? Distinction without meaning in this case.

Expand on this? Haven't heard of this failure mode.

Re:So You Think You Could Be an Electrician? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @01:32AM (#49950957)
ChatGPT will tell everyone else (who cares to do it) how to do the same thing. It's not hard.
Re:So You Think You Could Be an Electrician? on Sunday October 04, 2026 @01:27AM (#49950927)
There is a much larger number of people who can do electrical work than those who are "electricians". We will instead see more people doing their own work, mostly with success.

Ask HN: If AI took your job tomorrow, what is your plan?

I'm looking for some optimism here after reading one of the recent daily threads that devolves into doom. I'm 26, single, at a non-FAANG making okay money doing software, but I can feel the AI grip tightening. Maybe it's an illusion, not sure, but it sure feels real.Does anyone here have a creative plan for other industries to get into? Ways to reduce expenses? Trying to find something people...

In this case, why doesn't the rungs of the economy below the rich just... run the way they have been? Serious question, I've been mulling over in my head what it means for a few people to own the majority of "the economy" and goods to be very cheap, but no one has any income.

What I always come back to is this: Why does it matter what the very richest do? Worst case the economy operates approximately as it does now (maybe with us knowledge workers knocked down a few rungs). But like, the rich can't eat _all_ the food.

I feel like the most likely outcome is that the quality of life of the bottom 90% is overall better than today. HN'ers quality of life is maybe worse than it is today.
