from the ask-hn dept.

Hi, a friend of mine is starting his first chapter in learning web programming. He wanted to ask the question on Hacker News, but stated he couldn't do so with a new account. To all of you, it will be a very basic question, but he was wondering if you guys knew any HTML tips and tricks that would really impress recruiters (so as to set the applicant apart), or any resources for HTML beginners?...

I'm very curious, and will probably be helpful to the community :)

Re:BART signs up for 20 years of Wi-Fi on Sunday February 01, 2009 @02:22AM (#460661)
The day pass for wifi is $10? I think by 2011 (date set to be completed), a lot of people will be on mobile data plans and it won't really be worth it to pay for internet on a 30 min ride.

I think it's important to learn HTML/CSS. A good understanding of user interface will complement and affect the way you program. You should have a good grasp of how a website should "flow."

On the other hand, graphic designs is a different story. Developing a good artistic sense will take time and practice. If you plan on developing entire websites on your own, why not spend a little time to graphics design to make things look prettier? However, you don't plan on spending any time on this, then find a good designer :)
