No perl?!?!?!?
I'm not.

If you want to spend millions and get no deliverables..Accenture is your answer.

If you want projects late and over budget...Accenture is your answer.

If you want to quickly build your resume with performing little work...Accenture is your answer.

You can downvote this all you want...that IS what happened and you all know it.
When private sector fails, it goes out of business and other competent businesses take over.

When government fails it spends more tax dollars and does the same thing over again, expecting a different result.

Re:Running FreeBSD on OS X using xhyve, a port of bhyve on Wednesday December 12, 2018 @11:16AM (#18665118)
Isn't running any BSD on OS X redundant?
Re:Why Not to Use Quora on Monday December 10, 2018 @09:19AM (#18648040)
I agree with this article 100%. I have posted answers on quora to only have them disappear. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason on posts, moderation, and who sees what answer.
Re:Show HN: Stock Trading from Google Spreadsheet on Wednesday December 05, 2018 @10:40AM (#18609188)
Cool. I like useful posts. All posts should be useful. But not all posts are useful. Most are not useful. Now I have lost my faith in humanity. :(
Re:Tiny Emus: 8-Bit emulators on Monday November 19, 2018 @09:27AM (#18486577)
I am wondering if there is any value of having old hardware around anymore.

...so Microsoft's own version of something? Got it.
Re:NY state tax break is $48k per Amazon HQ job on Wednesday November 14, 2018 @06:35PM (#18455320)
I do not necessarily have a problem with the government shelling out taxpayer funds to attract employers, but this is highway robbery.
So...when does this get implemented here in the US?
Re:Best and Worst Cities for Nursing Homes in the US on Wednesday November 14, 2018 @11:12AM (#18450934)
I will never go to a nursing home. I'd rather die. I have seen the inside of those places and I can assure everyone, regardless of how nice they look and whatever amenities it has, it is a horrible place to spend the last years of your life. My Dad died at home and that's the way you do it.
Re:The Mass Exodus of Confederates to Brazil After the Civil War on Wednesday November 14, 2018 @10:07AM (#18450329)
This is what happens to the people who lose a civil war. Leave or be dealt with harshly for being disloyal.
Re:Spain to Ban the Sale of All Gas-Powered Cars by 2040 on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @05:01PM (#18445322)
Agreed. I want to see a lot more investment in public transit as well.
Re:Redox – A Unix-Like Operating System Written in Rust on Tuesday November 13, 2018 @01:30PM (#18443398)
I think this is awesome but how many more Linux OS' do we need? The community needs to come together and hammer out the end user desktop issues and get a unified Linux out to the unwashed masses. Windows 10 can't be the only future.
Re:2018 Mac Mini Review on Monday November 12, 2018 @09:18AM (#18432691)
The customer will not get $799 of value out of a Mac Mini. It will be made obsolete by Apple before that happens. Especially if Apple takes another 4 years to release the next one.
Re:Short-Run Effects of GDPR on Technology Venture Investment on Monday November 12, 2018 @09:15AM (#18432673)
I could be oversimplifying this but would the way to defeat GDPR is to make sure an individual cannot be identified through routine web site data collection?
Re:What Do Our Oldest Books Say About Us? on Thursday November 08, 2018 @11:31AM (#18407419)
I thought the same of Canterbury Tales.
Re:Ads just work, no matter what you think on Wednesday November 07, 2018 @12:50PM (#18400776)
All advertising has at least a 1% ROI. I don't think ads are a issue to be discussed.
Re:2018 Mac Mini Review on Tuesday November 06, 2018 @11:03AM (#18392147)
Fair enough, but it "values" the Mac Mini at $799 with a year-old i3 and 8GB of RAM? It valued the last one at $499 and it was 5 years old. I guess what the market will bear is really true...for Apple.
Re:2018 Mac Mini Review on Tuesday November 06, 2018 @09:44AM (#18391385)
There is zero justification for the pricing. It needs to be starting around $399. Apple is still working the privileged pricing model. Considering it has year old processor and 8GB RAM. For $800 an i5 and 16GB should be standard. I can forgive that 128GB SSD but not the CPU or RAM.

Side note, why is a computer only for games, streaming, and mining bitcoin? It that what the end user experience is limited to?

Re:Amazon Plans to Split HQ2 in Two Locations: NY and VA on Tuesday November 06, 2018 @09:39AM (#18391344)
Does anyone think this "search" was even real? I think this was decided long before the "search" was announced.
This article/blog entry says really nothing for the most part. I know two people personally who interviewed for Google. Neither hired, one got to a sixth interview, the other only fourth. Both told me two exact things:

How do you solve a problem? How do you solve someone else's problem?

I counter with "who cares?". CAN YOU SOLVE the problem is the winning answer. I think Google is really guilty of wasting their time and the time of the candidates with that many number of interviews without any payoff. I know within 15 minutes if a person is going to a) fit in the culture and b) able do the job. If Google needs more than one interview to figure that out, then they are doing it wrong.

What Google is really doing is providing someone with the privilege of having google on their resume. I doubt it's worth all that.
