Re:Buy Your Friends Batteries on Monday August 17, 2026 @03:19PM (#49336219)
Welcome to Ukraine where local people installed around 8GWt of batteries at home mostly because of huge outages after missile and ballistic terroristic attacks.

Batteries installation is not about money , average LiFePo4 battery life is around 10 years, so you will save nothing, unless you have some local generation like solar panels. In this case you could shrink payback time to 5 years instead of 10 and it makes some sense.

But the biggest problems here 2: 1. there a critical point after installing a huge amount of balance batteries the diff between day/night hours would be mitigated. And prices may down 30%. As result economical factor of installing energy storage systems would be very questionable. However cheap energy will increase energy usage by homes and industry and this may/might/probaly/i_hope. boost economy

2. The second factor riskier because when many people are installing energy storages and become independent of power grid, or even disconnects from the grid, there still exists power grid you have to support. Right now the price of grid support included in energy bill for electric company. The grid usage price is stable , it doesn't matter you support 1 person or a 1mln residents city. So the less people are using THE GRID - the higher prices for the rest people. And those high price forces rest people to disconnect from the grid. In general we may/I_hope_not to have situation with plenty energy islands and no more national grid systems

Re:RAG as Similarity Engine on Sunday April 19, 2026 @04:17AM (#47822658)
As obvious it's possible to use local Ollama models instead of ChatGPT , it you have large amount of data. But I love using the same approach even for building linking inside internal documentation, I really helps to keep all the changes updated and related.
Re:RAG as Similarity Engine on Sunday April 19, 2026 @04:15AM (#47822650)
Small approach to use RAG for better result in similarity for related content. The best thing is the process of getting vectors are don't only once, then you can reuse them indefinitely.
Re:I Hate Tailwind and Love Bootstrap on Saturday April 11, 2026 @02:08AM (#47727908)
My point is when you have 100 different ways to achieve result - it's always led to inconsistency. And it's very dangerous in large distributed app because resolution of those small differences means you have to support 50+ variation of the same submit button.

Personally I'd prefer to have up to 5-10 option of buttons for all possible cases. And it's not only visual simlicity, and not only easier to support but even help your own customers because they are not have to looking for 100+ different button styles.

Re:I Hate Tailwind and Love Bootstrap on Friday April 10, 2026 @05:05PM (#47723663)
I don’t believe the Tailwind approach is a stable, scalable, or reliable solution for large, long-living products.

It works well for fast delivery, prototypes, and teams optimizing for short-term speed, but over time it tends to spread styling decisions across markup, making the system harder to control, reason about, and maintain.

Re:Windows: Microsoft broke the only thing that mattered on Tuesday March 10, 2026 @05:11AM (#47320779)
The main issue is games. Drivers and overall performance under Linux for win games run under Wine is pretty low. The good stuff they became runnable but framerate of 12 fps is nothing for my razor laptop with rtx in Cossacs 3.

Now my setup is MacBook for work, and special game laptop Razer Blade especially for games with win11 removed defender/firewall and tons on useless stuff. Personally for me win7 will be enough but I just cannot install it on my laptop due to lack to drivers.

Re:Static Files as a Database on Sunday October 13, 2024 @09:18AM (#41827786)
Continue discussion about using static files as database instead of default relational MySql/Postgree/Mongo
Re:The Static Site Paradox on Wednesday October 09, 2024 @11:23AM (#41788866)
For a friend I made this: https://en.hayovasweets.com/

It’s mostly list of markdowns and images in folders. Everything else generates during deployment on GitHub:actions

It was simpler to show GitHub desktop rather than installing something like Wordpress machinery monster and spent hours to teach how to use it. Now the process is simple:

1. Create a folder

2. Put there markdown and images

3. Commit

Re:Life After Death: How Instagram Gives Life on Wednesday May 10, 2023 @05:49PM (#35893979)
In this short study, we will analyze the Instagram pages of five world-class musicians - Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley, Prince.
USB - 30Mbyte/sec theoretically for RPI, but in reality somewhere around 20Mbyte/sec

SD cards - class 10 tested on RPI show the same performance 21-27Mbyte/sec

So the issue mostly in throughput performance of the interface

By the way. Did anyone try to use a large sd-card as storage ?

I meant 256-512GB. In my logic it must decrease power consumption when keeping the same IO performance as external ssd connected through USB.

Face Palm? Face Down ? Face Epic Fail - after acquisition of Epic Games
Re:Facebook is planning to rebrand the company with a new name on Wednesday October 20, 2021 @04:38AM (#28928255)
I tried but I can't be serious about this news. Th company must name : Epic Face :)))))
IP blocked for non-residential areas eq. VPN/datacenters are blocked by loginwall. This is super stupid idea to fight with web scrappers.

The issue with web-scrappers comes from API limits: none wanted to parse twitter web if you can get everything from API for a reasonable price.

I don't think API access brings lots of money 5% increase in profit costs customer experience on mobile.

Re:JWT Tokens are NOT safe on Friday June 25, 2021 @03:17AM (#27628001)
Looks like Redis is trying to promote itself as a session data storage. From my perspective:

1. There's no difference between stealing jwt or session_id with al the problems it brings

2. Session in external storage is a solution for small projects like personal blog etc. because you have almost no traffic to handle. FOr example: 1kk session with an average size 1k = 1kk * 1k = 1Gb in memory storage. Not so big but you will meet all the issues of 10k connections problems when trying to build a service witch can handle this also it will consume at least 100Mb/s bandwidth just for getting/setting data.

3. Server side session a simple place to store all unnecessary/secure data and also can grow exponentially. I saw plenty projects when in one moment session data was grown over 1Mb. So the limits of JWT is a huge plus

4. JWT is easily scalable solution. It works great with 1k session and with 1kk - 100kk - 1000kk sessions.

5. Migration. Because of limitation of server side session - plenty projects started with DB as session store just because they already have DB. It's way of pain of migration from DB to external storage memcache/redis then to JWT.

From my point I don't see any reason to keep using server session instead of JWT.

WHAT! It's $750 bard based on upgraded raspberry pi ? For the whole controllers I don't want to pay more than $200& Otherwise it's better to purchase a mac mini and use in as rack mount.
Nope, this doesn't work at all. Early prototypes starts in 2028. Charging requires 1000A and 15kV. It's only marketing bullshit which doesn't' have any ground in reality.

Re:The global fertility rate is falling on Wednesday July 15, 2020 @02:21AM (#23841958)
I've read plenty researches: main factor is healthcare. It's a natural a better healthcare - leads to lower child and women death rate. That's why people are having less child and they become more valuable.

100 years ago there's NO statistic for child under 13yo death rate. Mostly because it was TOO high around 50-60% children are dying before they get ready for marriage.

My grand-grand-ma told me she had 8 brothers and sisters and only 2 survive: she and her brother. In that time it was reasonable to bake kids in enormous numbers in hope some of them are won't die. Then healthcare changed everything.

Re:Renault's driver UX is a disaster waiting to happen on Thursday July 04, 2019 @12:10AM (#20351442)
Rented a new Opel GrandX (SUV) - the same issues described in auricle. Whole nightmare as a car for driver.
I suppose there's something strange with sport at all. Her story isn't unique, just look here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verona_van_de_Leur

Amount of people in sports are much lower than in army, that's why we may not hear their stories, but it remembers me a problem with veterans. The same issue - it's hard for people people to adapt for a new life without extreme load. I really don't know the right answer. Teach them since start life is not only fighting, cycling, trainings ? there're something else external life ? But it's hard when your couch pushes you to your limits& I don't know.
