Make sure you read the article since it doesn't look like they're doing that at all. The sentence you cited is pretty tricky to parse so your reaction is understandable.

How did I not know you were an original cofounder at Heap?
This is really awesome! A couple questions.

1. Does the customer have to auth the bot at all?

2. What permissions does it need?

3. How's your infosec policy? Have you gone through a SOC2 yet?

4. What about Teams?

5. What about single channel guests (our workspace and theirs)?

Did you look at any alternative graph layout algorithms? There are non-quadratic ones that are quite good (like Barnes-Hut and its variants). I did a Typescript port of ForceAtlas2 a couple years ago that could run on a Web Worker (so as to not block the interactivity of the graph) but never got around to open sourcing it.

I'd be amazed to see what this level of profiling skill could do on a fancier algorithm.

This isn't really accurate. VCs would much rather get paid 20+% carry than 2% management fees (and raising a follow-on fund would be quite difficult if you failed to make returns and publicly blew most of your fund on a boondoggle like Magic Leap).
Will let the parent reply but at a high level (at least for comprehensive insurance) there is a) a fairly competitive market (and comparison shopping is possible) for car repairs and b) a limit to the cost of a repair (the value of a new comparable car) that we don't / won't place on human lives.
Out of curiosity have you read benchmarks recently on Rome? Per-core performance is quite competitive now (unlike in the recent past).

Is anybody else reminded of the old Hasbro electronic Simon game? Same 4 colors, same basic orientation.

I spent _so_ many hours as a kid on RetroMUD. Nothing else will improve your typing and console scanning skills like being a healer during a massive boss fight.

What about the traditional IO / data locality win of having your processing colocated with your DFS? Is GCS bandwidth that amazing?

On your last point at least being a proper SQL database makes the switching costs _into_ Cockroach lower, too.

He covers that in the post. TL;DR yes.
I don't think most new engineers intuitively grasp the ramifications of Amdahl's Law:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amdahl%27s_law

It really doesn't matter if you can make an individual task 1000x faster if your program only spends 1% of its time doing that task.

Wrong decade...
What's the primary win of doing this? Isn't DW still tied to Jetty which has a more traditional threading model?

I thought it was nice too until I tried using it on Chrome on Windows. Scrolling is completely broken (have had to reload the page a few times...)

They're both Dremel clones, but this one seems to be a lot more complete (as Drill is just getting started).
