if you don't want to, you can just pick the general purpose allocator and use it everywhere.

however, in languages that don't allow it, you can't pick and choose different allocators for different workflows. it may not be important to you, but it is important to many. and shoe horning support for multiple allocators is not easy for language

Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:05AM (#50241469)
I must say i find it hard to believe that a person, who can't afford to buy a laptop, would rather buy iphone duo on loan for PC needs.

maybe it is not the culture in India (where i live). but it looks financially irresponsible. if you need a laptop and can't afford it, buy a second hand laptop instead. iphone duo can't replace a laptop in first place.

Re:Show HN: Run full iOS 16.5 firmware on Android Devices on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:02AM (#50204391)
hmm, if only the reverse could be done. i.e. running android on apple devices. i got an Ipad 8th gen and would love to install lineageOs on it
Re:Jailbreaking the Switch 2 on Thursday October 22, 2026 @08:17AM (#50194286)
options for switch1, ps5, xbox: Disc or code in box.

options for switch 2: Full game on cartridge, switch 2 edition (including switch 1 support), Game Key Card (half physical), Code in the box.

I don't see why should nintendo be blamed for providing more options. if anythng you should blame the publishers for chosing "Code in the box" (looking at you diablo) when GKC would do. or GKC when full cartridge would do.

Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @07:03AM (#50178886)
after 7.0, tsgo version is The canonical version. so, there is no other choice here
Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:55AM (#50178829)
option 2 is also impractical for most part. doing a rewrite is big thing already, changing implementation paradigm would make "catching up" impossible.

Only practical option is to do low level rewrite (otpion 1) and then rewrite module by module into better approaches.

Re:Xbox continues its "reset" with dramatic restructuring on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:27PM (#49804943)
it is easy: give up on hardware and focus on games
Re:Xbox continues its "reset" with dramatic restructuring on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:25PM (#49804917)
hmmm, that does not make sense. for one, xbox competes with playstation and playstation is definitely not designed for kids.

second, nintendo exists for "family friendly" market.

Re:Flet 1.0 – Build cross-platform apps in Python on Friday September 18, 2026 @11:50AM (#49756164)
ehh, it is pretty standard. in fact, todo app is the standard hello world for any GUI framework. it has been standard for js frameworks from before js fatigue started
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @12:48AM (#49707831)
so, finally ipad 8th gen support is over. any idea if performance improvements would be released to 8th gen as feature update?
i suggest changing the name to something that is related to react. or atleast unrelated to Vue (the logo seems Vue inspired)
that's an intersting choice of name. on first glance, i thought it is related to Vue. i think you should change the name to be more associated with react like Ceact etc.

or atleast something does not immidately screams Vue, like the logo does.

beware! using AI for middle management is how you speedrun to dystopia. Bad Managers can be fired, good managers can manage up. on other hand, "bad" AI will remain and continue to be dystopic, and "good" AI will be killed by higher management for being not being a doormat.

Re:Agent Lightning v1.0 on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @09:07AM (#49433354)
it is made by Microsoft employees, not Satya. Microsoft employees have various degrees of freedom on what level of quality to target

with absence of QA, quality is going downhill. thanks to AI mandate, quality is going downhill a lot faster

it can be. you just need competence and incentive for it.

see File pilot as an example of what is possible when competent software engineer attempts it

the main problem with windows is that its applications are integrated in windows and can not be disabled and replaced by better software trivially.

nor is there anyone incentivised to improve customer experience for windows. it baffles me how bad windows search is. there are multiple tools out there which do a far better job.

same for file explorer.

i love how benchmarks are fair and use solid beta and vue vapor for comparison, instead of trying some specific benchmarks for marketing
Re:When I failed the Microsoft interview on Thursday July 30, 2026 @09:28AM (#49109716)
if you look at interviews as a Test to check how good you are at studying interview questions. then things will make a lot more sense.

it also makes sense from interviewer point of view as you are filtering out anyone who could not study these things by themselves.

no one is expected to invent dijkstra's algo on the fly from first principles. but you are expected to be aware of it and competent enough to code it if the interviewer asks for it.

Re:How is the Bun Rewrite in Rust going? on Monday July 27, 2026 @08:02AM (#49068378)
bun in zig was used by many companies. some were using it in prod. how many of those are using it in prod? none, because bun in rust is not released yet.

Hence, the author concludes that rust rewrite is not complete as bun in rust is not released yet.

I agree with author's POV.

node is used in prod and bun is faster than node. so using bun directly translates to lower cogs
Re:Ziggity – A terminal UI for Git, written in Zig on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @06:33AM (#48990443)
it is necessary to discern whether the person actually believes it or not. you may understand it but internet is accessible by a lot of idiots. at least one of them is inclined to take the words at face value
Kudos to the wife. that guy would have died without her heroic effort. I hope they are able to recover
is this moonlighting?
There is common wisdom: during gold rush, sell shovels.

Apple's shovel (ahem, Mac mini) is the highest quality.with Companies burning money left, right and center, Apple can dispense with advertising altogether

Re:My Thoughts on the Bun Rust Rewrite on Friday July 10, 2026 @03:31AM (#48856842)
>As soon as the Internet stops arguing in public about whether the rewrite was good or bad for Bun based on the language choice, I believe that concludes our interactions.

so, never? because with bun being as public and widely known as it is, the debate won't end

Re:How Donkey Kong Toppled Atari on Thursday July 09, 2026 @11:14AM (#48847323)
you have it backwards . the game was "a Mario game", but it was called "Donkey Kong", so it comes under Donkey Kong franchise.
Re:How Donkey Kong Toppled Atari on Thursday July 09, 2026 @06:55AM (#48843850)
it is not a secret but very unexpected. when I heard of donkey kong, it was in context of donkey kong franchise which obviously feature Donkey Kong as main character just like mario is main character of mario games.

so technically first Donkey Kong game in Donkey Kong series is actually a Mario game. i understand why and how it happened. but this is a trivia that you either know or you would not believe from untrusted sources

Re:How Donkey Kong Toppled Atari on Thursday July 09, 2026 @05:20AM (#48843134)
wow, it is kinda unexpected that both Mario and Donkey Kong started in the same game. and that in first Donkey Kong game, the main mario was the main character.
