Google, Facebook, Apple etc are already deeply influencing the way we think. Deplatforming discussion forums for people who feel isolated and misunderstood is a bold step towards mass compliance and brainwashing.
I feel sorry for radicalized Republicans. They can be reached. Banning, deplatforming and isolating is the opposite of what we should be doing. Big tech should be creating more platforms for them, and more outlets for expression and diversification, not less.
HN is a hotbed for groupthink. That is just as dangerous, even moreso.

While I don't use Parler, it probably serves an important social purpose for 95 percent of its members: being a place where they can be heard and not feel isolated.Deplatforming isolates people at the worst time ever, during a global pandemic. It shuts up a huge swath of the American population who need to be heard and understood. Big tech is wrong here. They are not our saviours. They are not...
Stripe profited by the sensationalism and hate Trump generated over the last four years and now, at the end of his presidency, they finally pull the plug? I see nothing laudable here.
That's super inspiring. I'm learning piano improvisation and music composition at 50.
If you have the name of this person, please share and I'll write his story on my blog.
Are you using an @protonmail.com address or a custom domain Protonmail?
Hmm. How could we monetize this? Crowdsource the strap... Uber of abuse...
Joking aside, I'm sure we can find modern-day examples of someone doing the crime and another doing the time, for a price.
The visual presentation is really powerful. A link worth clicking.
Seems like a great idea, and I love the enthusiasm of the post. It's inspiring. If you haven't already, I suggest you offer a vegan (or at least vegetarian) option.
I enjoyed reading your comment. As someone who has never been to Italy, I found it informative.

Looking to move from Windows to Linux. What distro is most user friendly? I want to install popular multimedia and productivity apps easily.
Honestly, Orpheusdroid is a sub-optimal name. It's too wordy and hard to spell or even remember. This is an opportunity to rebrand into something better.
This is one of those posts I save to read later but never actually read. It's interesting but not essential.
I suggest something similar. When we are constantly buying and requesting things we create work and stress for others. We become a high-maintenance humans. We contribute to the rush and tension we feel around us.
By consuming less and demanding less, we live a low maintenance life. Not minimally good, just low-maintenance. This along with looking for ways to serve our communities is the better way to go.
I'll take this opportunity to recommend Downpour, an Audible alternative I use. No DRM, you can download your audiobooks in mp3 format:

I'm worried about birds. The sky is the only safe place for them. I don't think I'm being overly sensitive either.
I like the idea. Seems like a good way to outline blog posts and whatnot. A few requests: allow for images and other attachments, include a dark mode, and charge something so it's sustainable and worth maintaining and improving.
Get personally involved, have some skin in the game, and you'll get much more out of music.
About a year ago I started a project called Poseur to Composer. My goal is to play an instrument and learn enough music theory to compose songs I'm proud of (it's been a slow and humbling process, and I'm still working at it). Along the way I've discovered many new artists and genres, and I listen to music - no, engage with music - in a much different way now.
In case anyone's interested, here is where I've blogged my progress: https://poseurtocomposer.postach.io/page/sitemap and a recent newsletter I sent that encapsulates what I've accomplished thus far: https://mailchi.mp/60c7dfc7bcbb/rediscovery
I noticed there's no newsletter. Showing the desktop setting of the day would be a quick low friction email I would enjoy getting in my inbox.
