Re:Python post-Guido on Thursday July 19, 2018 @02:13PM (#17568944)
Why not try a president of Python every 4 years with no term limits? Similar to BDFL, except there are chances for change and a consistent voice throughout a term. Voters would consist of core devs and PSF.

Re:Startup Ideas on Thursday November 16, 2017 @01:32PM (#15715207)
Like the firefighting idea. Might as well throw policing in there as well. An army of sufficiently smart drones should be enough to drastically reduced the size of those labor pools.
Now that JavaScript and Python are #1 and #2, respectively, it opens the door for Elm/Haskell in the next 5 - 10 years. As noobs continue to flood/dilute the market, FP seems like a good bet to move the state of advanced computing forward. That being said, the frameworks react and tensorflow/scikit learn will still be in demand for the next 5 years so there's still high demand for the right framework knowledge.
As a python programmer, I found R's pdftools to be indispensable for messy text based PDFs. I couldn't find a python lib that worked as consistently across variously different formats.
Re:Study finds connections between birth month and health on Wednesday June 10, 2015 @09:30AM (#9691960)
Would be interesting to see this study done for disease in just children since their birth month should correlate much stronger with weather and environmental factors
Re:Neo900 – Crafting the private phone [pdf] on Sunday December 28, 2014 @10:25AM (#8806424)
Can't you just boot Ubuntu touch on a Nexus 4 or dual boot a oneplus with 3gb ram?

Re:The Lack of Major Wars May Be Hurting Economic Growth on Saturday June 14, 2014 @12:02AM (#7892034)
Misappropriation of public funds is the greatest driver of economic growth! Let's do more of that.
Re:Vodafone reveals direct government wiretaps on Friday June 06, 2014 @10:11AM (#7857947)
Maybe we should have some kind of tor phone that randomizes phone numbers and scrambles the sound over the wire and reconstitutes the sound through some well engineered Kickstarter phone.

This would render most govt taps moot.

Re:Designing a timeless smartwatch on Friday March 07, 2014 @01:42PM (#7361908)

Re:HUVr Board on Wednesday March 05, 2014 @09:59AM (#7347263)
This should be possible with a powerful enough acoustic field, no?
Re:Thoughts on Bitcoin on Sunday December 01, 2013 @03:06PM (#6829008)
My biggest issue with bitcoin is that it should be redeemable for something tangible other than $USD. The first virtual currency that addresses this and is directly convertible to watts or calories will be the currency to beat.
Re:MIT Wristband Could Make Air Conditioning Obsolete on Thursday October 31, 2013 @09:15AM (#6646570)
I read this as MIT wristband would make 'Atlantic City' obsolete. Perhaps some kind of card counting helper. ;)
