This seems to have been said as if it is a bad thing. Is it, or did I misread what you meant?

"First they came for…" by Niemöller wants a word with you.

By not doing your social duty of providing plausible deniability wherever possible, you are recklessly endangering your future self, and everyone else you care or not care about.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. I strongly recommend you add `rerere.enabled true` (makes `git pull --rebase` life easier)

Pay.

zswap is not transparent memory compression: it specifically focus on compressed paged-out faults.

I am not aware of anything that goes the MacOS way: actual compressed ram, with fast in-cpu-cache decompression of the compressed payload carried over the dram bus.

This seems to be the current state of the world: https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/374579

I can't find anything regarding Linux. Could you share the name of the project/daemon?

FWIW redirection is not positional:

    ~$ <frongle.txt grep fringle >frungle.txt

Where?

Why?

Hm... that's odd. What errors did you get? Perhaps rhash is unavailable?

I am so glad you asked! Neal Stephenson answers all your questions and then some in the timeless "Mother Earth Mother Board" https://www.wired.com/1996/12/ffglass/
Re:Why Go's Error Handling Is Awesome on Tuesday July 07, 2020 @09:20AM (#23758911)
A "maybe" type is logically incompatible with "subatomic I/O". When a sized-read() syscall results in a short read AND a raised error. The only sensible thing to do is to return both.

I am not familiar with Rust, but looking around the docs on Read [https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/io/trait.Read.html#errors] I see:

> If an error is returned then it must be guaranteed that no bytes were read.

Could someone elaborate how a system can satisfy this guarantee, seems impossible...?

Re:Where is the DNS headed? on Thursday June 18, 2020 @08:21AM (#23562360)
> CDNs are a lesser evil than ISPs

This keeps being repeated, and I simply do not understand it. Could you elaborate how you arrive at this conclusion that CDN > ISP?

My take:

An unsavory ISP is the only thing I can "vote against" as an end user. I can boycott it by switching elsewhere, I can pick from a ton of mobile providers, I can use a VPN to "subcontract" my connectivity experience to an order of magnitude more providers, or if I am really so inclined I can shuffle all of that by the likes of Tor.

There is NOTHING I can do as an individual to avoid a CDN, aside from never visiting content backed by that CDN.

It's not a property of the engine but of the graph itself:

I should have been clearer earlier: given the replies that my question prompted I completely understand why my post was flagged, even in isolation. I have no qualms about any of it.

The comment was not meant as "who does he think he is, putting words in my keyboard, I'll set him straight!", but rather a humble "whoa! instead of simply flipping an invisible switch, he took the time to explain what and why to some nobody: this is so cool!"

Thank you for sacrificing your sanity and keeping this site what it is ;)

Thank you for taking the time for an individual reply. The thread was young and I was genuinely baffled, as I do not get much exposure to this type of... thinking in my daily life. I regretted my engagement the moment the response came back :(
