How long was he actually at Motorola? It seems like he was just there to help Google flip it.

Soylet has done a great job with getting media attention. Thumbs up for that!
Re:You are not Steve Jobs on Friday April 19, 2013 @10:10PM (#5579626)
Steve was one of the best product guys this world has seen. The same qualities that this article complained over, were the qualities that also allowed him to provide the world with all these gadgets. There's two sides to every coin, and no one's perfect.
I've interviewed with Jacob at iZettle. Great guy and team!
Re:Ask HN: How have you made "quick" money before? on Wednesday November 21, 2012 @01:15AM (#4813072)
Arbitrage on virtual goods from different countries/regions. Got lucky and got 15k in a week.
Re:Do Female Executives Drive Start-up Success? on Wednesday October 10, 2012 @10:24PM (#4639087)
Once again, this is the product of unclear thinking, not distinguishing between correlation vs. causation. This is not a hard concept to grasp, so I'm really disappointed in mankind that we let this mistake happen so often.

Since gender equality is such a hot and sensitive topic, I can see how it incentivized people to jump to such conclusions.

Re:Jack Dorsey: Today Starbucks Signed up for Square on Wednesday August 08, 2012 @03:27AM (#4354375)
It's not a zero sum game. As more mainstream consumers learn about and start using Square, it will undoubtedly give a great boost to small businesses using Square as well.
Re:Jack Dorsey: Today Starbucks Signed up for Square on Wednesday August 08, 2012 @12:43AM (#4353951)
Losing a decent chunk of change? How can they lose something they wouldn't otherwise have had at all? It's only normal to assume that they have special terms for Starbucks, but it doesn't mean they're losing anything.

Unless you mean that Square is providing the service at a loss to Starbucks?

Re:What hackers don’t know about business on Monday August 06, 2012 @11:06PM (#4348483)
Doesn't LTV stand for "[customer] life time value," i.e. the amount of money you'll be able to generate from a customer during his/her time with your business, and not "long term value"?
Re:Go East, Young Man on Monday January 09, 2012 @09:44PM (#3445387)
I work in marketing and get the same salary as in my home country Sweden, but with accommodation and food paid. I wasn't hired as a local. It really depends on what you do though; my banker friends make waaaay more.
Re:Go East, Young Man on Monday January 09, 2012 @08:53PM (#3445279)
As someone who's recently made the move to China (Hong Kong, and not teaching English), I can say it's a great way for native English speakers to jump start their careers and get responsibilities much faster than at home.

Hong Kong is a bit easier getting used to due to a free internet, less pollution, and stricter food safety laws. But I guess there are more opportunities on the mainland.

Re:Sony Ericsson Forces A Fan Site Into Submission on Friday October 21, 2011 @05:58PM (#3141904)
Yeah, Sony was not so smart here. However, Apple has also done something similar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Think_Secret. However, Apple really seems to have come to their senses in recent years.

Ask HN: Besides HN, what are your most visited sites?

The information I've been exposed to while using HN has been invaluable. Some say the key to success is surrounding oneself with those smarter than you, and HN is the closest I've come online. To make sure I'm not missing out on anything, I would like to ask fellow HNers what other sites you frequent. Thanks.

Re:Ask HN: What is your ideal Android phone like? on Friday October 21, 2011 @05:26AM (#3139056)
I haven't come to a good answer for this myself, but lately, I've been wanting a simple phone more and more, one which doesn't clash with the feature-set of the tablet. One that does simple things, like syncing, texting, and calling, really well. With an insane battery life. Design-wise, it has to be clean and beautiful, both the phone itself, and its UI.

Ask HN: What is your ideal Android phone like?

Recently, we've seen a few topics on HN discussing the virtues of different smartphone platforms, most noticeably iOS and Android. Although differences between the two platforms exist, most tend to come to the conclusion that Android is slightly less polished, and therefore slightly inferior to iOS.So I've been thinking about this question quite a bit recently. How would your ideal Android...

My Aeron chair that I've had for less than a year.

Does its job, looks sexy, but might not be the chair that has the most value for its price.

Re:Ask HN: What Android apps do you use? on Sunday October 02, 2011 @03:25PM (#3063732)
You should root and install 2.3.4 via Odin. The battery difference is substantial.

Worked for me. What happens if you launch them after attempting to freeze?

You don't need an app for this. Hold menu + power button.

Sorry for being a noob, but how do unordered lists work on HN?
Re:Ask HN: What Android apps do you use? on Sunday October 02, 2011 @07:52AM (#3062618)
It lasts a little more than a day, regular usage, not too much gaming. I noticed that the latest 2.3.4 ROM really helped boost battery life.

As a side note: Samsung has released an official 2000mAh battery for the SGS2. It's very reasonably priced here in Sweden, at less than 300 SEK. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239719

Re:Ask HN: What Android apps do you use? on Sunday October 02, 2011 @07:49AM (#3062615)
From what I can gather, the MIUI SGS2 port isn't officially supported by MIUI, and has a few bugs and issues. Do you think it's good enough to use on a day-to-day basis?
Re:Ask HN: What Android apps do you use? on Sunday October 02, 2011 @06:51AM (#3062532)
Some of my recommendations:

- Hacker News Reader by Corey Trager. Currently the only client that works for me.

- DrioidWall, sort of like LittleSnitch for the Mac, you can block apps from accessing the internet.

- JuiceDefender. Some say that it doesn't work, but after customizing the settings, I find extends my battery pretty well.

- Douban.fm. Good online radio app for those of us outside US without access to Pandora et al. Chinese startup so speeds can be slower at times.

- For my todo list, I use Flick Note as a widget extended to cover an entire homescreen (with TouchWiz 4.5), synced to Simple Note. I also use Flick Note for all other note-taking needs, and have frozen/disabled a few default apps with similar features. On my Macs I use Notational Velocity to edit the list and GeekTools to display on my dekstop.

Ask HN: What Android apps do you use?

Hey HN, I recently got a SGS2 and I really love it. I'm always looking to improve my Android experience, and am curious to know what Android apps you use and recommend. Cheers!I know this has been asked before, but couldn't find anything asked/written in the past year on HN.
