As both an avid vim and emacs user, and a lover of both:

This is heresy!!!!!!!!!!

Yep
Nepotism.
Good.
It's kind of strange that there are so many hated people speaking at this event.
Pretty cool!

Those who terrorize Russian diaspora for the actions of their government have rocks for brains.
Poast is by far the most interesting and active instance, though I don't have an account there, just on a smaller but similar pleroma instance. If you want to interact with real people go there.

Fig. A: everyone can see that collective guilt is wrong

Fig. B: In the past, most whites were racist.

Ah, I can see why you're a NYT bestseller.

Yes.
I heard that sales went up! Might be neat to look into that.
Explain your hyperbole or go back to Reddit.
Re:The jerrycan design goes back over 80 years (2020) on Monday March 21, 2022 @12:18PM (#30755899)
I wonder if they call it a "Jerry" can over in Germany...
Two thumbs up.
I don't think it was hard to criticize; it always seemed to be a little tongue in cheek and lighthearted.

Have you read Chomsky's "Manufacturing Consent" and discussed the ideas inside with others? While he is right about in general about editorial bias, he ultimately posits that media that shares his own political agenda is good and media that does not is bad.

Media-induced hypersensitivity to fear porn is certainly an issue, and the good people of this board like to think they are invulnerable to it. Ha.

Re:The scramble to make climate change in Alaska feel real on Friday October 01, 2021 @02:33PM (#28721948)
This title should be changed; the assertion seems to be that it's not real.
Isn't this already the case?
revenue = supporting popular ideas, whether they make sense or not, to maintain optics and please investors

popular != true

If you think it's a problem, don't do it yourself.

Many countries out there today have much more literal intersocietal slavery.

It would be amazing to break these bonds, but it would completely destroy globalism and dramatically alter 'quality of life' in the west, which is why it's not happened already.

Hello Contributors,

*RMS* may not conform to your societal standards, but condemning the man (him, or Torvalds, who also comes under fire,) marrs your reputation, and not his.

> He has shown himself to be misogynist, ableist, and transphobic, among other serious accusations of impropriety.

I have met RMS in person, (had Chinese food with him, in fact,) and though he may ignore some social conventions, he is a person who has very valuable and unique opinions, and a force to be reckoned with. These accusations appear to be, while not baseless, motivated by an extremely twisted socio-political ideology.

*Shame on you for bringing cancel culture into the world of software.*

Re:Merge tag 'inclusive-terminology' into Linux kernel on Sunday July 12, 2020 @02:31PM (#23813544)
Immediately linking any resemblance of racial identity politics to meaningful programming terms, and then demanding that the vernacular of an entire discipline be ideologically reshaped, means that you are the one who is on the 'wrong side of history'.

If these changes are truly merited, they will occur naturally over time.

Repost. See KISS launcher on F-Droid for a good alternative.

If statistics and physiognomy reveal uncomfortable truths about our society, we should be receptive to the issues and proactively work towards positive solutions, rather than sticking our heads in the sand. This is fake news.

Re:SuperPull – A tool for people who work on many machines on Sunday January 27, 2019 @11:34AM (#19012341)
Hello HN,

I wrote SuperPull to solve a personal problem of mine:

1. Does work in multiple repos.

2. Walks to other computer.

3. Needs to manually pull and fetch new remotes for each working repository.

Questions:

1. Is there a better way to solve this problem?

2. What do you think of the tool? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
