Re:Why is Everyone in Tech so sad? on Tuesday August 11, 2026 @11:07PM (#49267411)
I just wanted to say I read this and it really got me. Maybe I should also start knitting
I'm surprised it's only half

There's a joke about certain princes here but I just feel bad for the people getting scammed since I know firsthand how realistic these things can seem

Re:I refuse to play the imitation game on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @07:41PM (#47870671)
So... Is the point just that the work needs to be good first and foremost?

Love Wayback Machine stories

Maybe one day the previous owner will find what you've built

Re:What Drives AI Crawler Traffic? on Tuesday April 21, 2026 @04:03PM (#47853818)
Very interesting that OpenAI is by far the biggest driver and also that LLMs mostly crawl sites to ground answers

Because as we all know the Internet is never wrong

This has strong Stand By Me vibes
I think all the agents might also be putting GitHub to sleep in the same fashion
Re:Our Longing for Inconvenience on Saturday April 18, 2026 @06:47PM (#47820213)
I get it - every week I look at a summary of AI news and my derealization meter spikes I wonder if even next year 2026 will seem like the new "good old days"
Re:AI Is the Closest Thing to a Genie Lamp on Wednesday April 15, 2026 @10:21AM (#47779376)
Depending who you talk to it's a Monkey's Paw

And the wishes are (almost) unlimited!

I'm re-reading the title and it is a little misleading (my apologies). The answer is a little bit complicated: the domain has been registered since 1999 (27 years). The initial site ran from 1999 to 2007 (8 years) and came back as a single page app around the 2008 election (~2 years). In February he re-created the site and hopefully it beats its predecessor's record!
Re:Uncharted island soon to appear on nautical charts on Sunday April 12, 2026 @04:31PM (#47744149)
Is this the start of a Jules Verne novel? Really though super cool
Don't worry we can just ask AI to make a cure! In seriousness though this is a massive problem that needs to be stopped early. I was glad to see the article list warning signs to watch for

https://pubsonline.informs.org/doi/10.1287/mnsc.2024.05684 A fascinating related study showing that collaboration with AI improves cognition while passive use erodes it. Personally I love the adversarial attitude Sonnet has adopted with me!

Re:What's the most painful sting in the world? on Saturday April 11, 2026 @01:47AM (#47727807)
I was really hoping this would reference Coyote Peterson as a main source And it did not disappoint
Re:Austin's drop in rents explains housing in America on Saturday April 11, 2026 @01:42AM (#47727772)
Finally a success story I thought during COVID there was a large shift to the suburbs where your own space was valued over neat stuff nearby, and that simultaneously raised suburban housing demand and cooled urban prices
Re:Claude Mythos: 'It's a PR Scam' – Ed Zitron [video] on Friday April 10, 2026 @04:47PM (#47723473)
I think that's honestly best case
Oh geez another insanely powerful thing I don't have time to try

I'll at least follow along with anyone who generates some more compelling examples. It seems like this could totally change practical effects

So... The Torpedo Bat is basically the Placebo Bat?
Re:What Agents Need Before They Handle Real Money on Thursday April 02, 2026 @01:14AM (#47610234)
I heard a colleague say this week that current security protocols with agents are basically putting a post-it note on a delicious cake that says "DO NOT EAT"
Re:The AI Industry, Unloved on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @01:53AM (#47597290)
It's always been the tech industry's nature to race forward and scale regardless of consequence (ex. social media, the dotcom bubble etc) But AI accelerates the cycle to a crazy degree

I do hope we see regulation in the (very) near future because this is not a tool that private enterprises and free markets should govern

Re:Claude Code Unpacked : A visual guide on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @01:36AM (#47597202)
Okay those "hidden features" are amazing, especially the cross-session referencing. I hope we can look forward to that in the future

Also I definitely want a Claude Code spirit animal

Re:Congratulations, Here's a Pay Cut on Wednesday April 01, 2026 @01:26AM (#47597140)
Sorry man that sucks. It's the polar opposite of the COVID hiring boom

I feel like the right time to start a get a venture off the ground was in the 2010s

Love the idea but the advice I should probably take right now is to sleep vs chill (what it told me)
I feel like this is one of those things that people do for an experiment or headline but not in actual practice I'd be interested to see anyone who legitimately hands the keys over to their agents though
Re:Release Engineering Lessons from Google and Facebook on Monday March 30, 2026 @10:28PM (#47582073)
Ah yes the old counterintuitive "the more you release the more stable you become" I'm glad principles like canaries, CI/CD, and Blue/Green deployments were created by people much smarter than I am
It me... also no surprise there. Personally I don't believe a tool as powerful as AI (umbrella term I know) should be controlled by a company But if it has to be then I'm glad it's Anthropic.
Oh man can I be this guy when I grow up? That level of gumption is seriously impressive
