I guess we can expect the karma devaluation.
Re:Monetizing open-source is problematic on Sunday May 23, 2021 @12:26AM (#27252458)
Yes, it's MIT and everybody else is allowed to use it as they want.

Would it be a good option to relicense the project under the AGPL/SSPL or whatever licenses (how MongoDB/Elastic/Anaconda have done) to get credit?

Great tool!

But for some reason it doesn't recognize https://x.org as a valid URL.

TL;DR: It's more about short sounds like birdsong, weather, etc than music. Although, I saw some music samples as well.

Freesound aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, and all sorts of bleeps, ...

Nice project.

Could you elaborate? I think I'm not aware of this.

I considered Raindrop.io [1] at some point, but I ended up with Firefox bookmarks. I have an account and the bookmarks are synced. [2]

Mobile app is inferior to competitors, but Mozilla products are trustworthy. [3]

The drawing process looks similar to the Venom transformation!

Hello hoerzu,

I think this might help to avoid such cases in the future:

Setting a monthly cost budget with a fixed target amount to track all costs associated with your account. You can choose to be alerted for both actual (after accruing) and forecasted (before accruing) spends.

I thought it retired 20 years ago, didn't it?

Thanks for sharing it!

What about Ctrl+Insert and Shift+Insert? Or Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+Shift+V can handle all the cases?

Re:Squeezebox Keyboard on Wednesday May 19, 2021 @04:47PM (#27214271)
As an ergonomic keyboard, it reminds me the dear old Kinesis keyboards. [1] I've met two people who use them. One tells it's a big leap from the classic keyboards and that the ergonomic keyboards are far more convenient (when you got used to them). The other person is not as excited about it. In accordance with his experience, the Kinesis feels different, but the performance for him is the same.

I think when it comes to keyboards and layouts, the QWERTY type have become a user habit that is really hard to change. Yes, Dvorak might be easier to type, but as long as it is not common, software developers don't pay attention to such a low demand and you have get around all the shortcuts issues that you face. E.g. Ctrl + x/c/v are no longer in a row as well as the Vim-like "hjkl". And you have to put extra effort to maintain this matching.

Like the Dvorak layout, the Squeezebox Keyboard design is non-standard and I think a casual user would face challenges trying to adapt the keyboard to day-to-day tasks.

Nonetheless, I do like the concept of the Squeezebox Keyboard.

"Featured in The Guardian" [1]

The funny thing is, when you click it (top left corner), you get to The Guardian web page that asks whether you want to accept cookies.

It looks nice! And I like the apps you've chosen to put there, especially, Minecraft and Minesweeper.

From the UX perspective, I'm used to opening the icons by a double click. I think it is what most of users are familiar with.

Both Quake3e and ioquake3 are engines, but not the game. To play, you still need pak0.pk3 file which is not free. It is included if you buy the game. Bethesda [1], GOG [2], Steam [3].

How do middle-sized open source projects survive?

I get that majority of small open source projects are led by volunteers who consider it a hobby. At the same time, some big projects can earn money by offering enterprise support [1], selling courses/certification [2] or by charging for repository packages. [3]However, how do medium-sized players like Wireshark, GIMP or LibreOffice survive? I'm not sure that donations make a huge difference and...
