Didn't this send her father crazy? He certainly seems to have aged rapidly in the last couple of years.
Isn’t Lithium an anti-depressant? If it’s extracted from drinking water, won’t you end up with miserable people?
I’ve heard the Great Seal Bug described as being activated by microwaves, and wonder if all these embassies and offices were riddled with similar bugs.

Re:Listen to Wikipedia on Monday December 28, 2020 @01:29PM (#25561687)
I remember there was a website or app which let you listen to wikipedia articles whose subject was near you, based on geolocation info. Anyone remember what it was?
The article mentions organic as possibly more nutritious. Are there any studies which prove this, and give comparative organic / non-organic nutritional values?

This good news hopefully cancels out the bitgrail bad news
There's a lot of Sasquatch stories among Native Americans.

There seems to be a strong undercurrent of anti-gentilism from several commenters on this story. The response from admins has been very strange.
Re:How to deal with harassment on Hacker News? on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @11:32AM (#14194419)
Well, before he even asks for my 'intention' he accusing me of 'slandering Jews'.

Would I have got someone harassing me about my 'intention' if I posted about Christian or Muslim fundamentalists who don't want other peoples suffering to be mentioned? If I say Christians killed thousands during the Spanish Inquisition, will I get someone stalking and harassing me and accusing me of slandering all Christians? What is the standard here?

Re:How to deal with harassment on Hacker News? on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @10:48AM (#14193987)
The whole thread is him implying I'm an anti-semite for posting a link to the New York Post. Everyone else in the thread is OK with the link, and my summary of it. But all he does is ask 'how long have you beaten your wife' style questions.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @10:14AM (#14193666)
I don't accept your 'apology'. You are continuing to harass and smear me.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @09:58AM (#14193525)
Why are you harassing me and asking me "do you still beat your wife?" loaded questions?
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @09:38AM (#14193370)
What's your intention?
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @08:59AM (#14193018)
It was an example of the parents post's mention of the 'oft-forgotten gypsies'.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @08:24AM (#14192775)
Everything 'it sounds like you were suggesting' is in your paranoid head. I was linking to an article. I am not Hitler hiding under your bed. This is Hacker News - where people post links.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @07:26AM (#14192485)
I don't know what to say about your prickly confused paranoia. I have no need to 'slander Jews'. If I were to criticise a Christian fundamentalist would I be 'slandering Christianity'? If I were to criticise a Jihadist would I be 'slandering Islam'. Should I be told to shut up?

Look, the guy you have supported here is open in his support of Kahane and the JDL. That's just the territory you occupy.

Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @06:21AM (#14192187)
In my experience, the blinkers on white South Africans during apartheid and Jewish Israelis seem to be constructed in the same way. In that sense I don't blame Israelis for wanting to build a Museum of Tolerance on a Muslim cemetry - that's just how they have been brought up. Just their culture.

It's no wonder Israel supplied apartheid South Africa with nuclear weapons. They had a shared philosophy.

Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @06:05AM (#14192112)
The guy in question - Dov Hikind - seems quite open in his views. He's a follower of the terrorist group Jewish Defense League who has some odd views that @tome will probably be happy to explain to you as misunderstood :)

Why wasn't I taught this in school? I have to say, I've never seen a movie which explores this.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @05:48AM (#14192027)
Uh-huh. The same hilarious double think is in evidence in Israel - building a Museum of Tolerance on a Muslim cemetry:

It's incredible to contemplate the billions given in reparations to Israel, while Gypsies - who still live in complete destitution in a Europe - have not recieved a single penny.
Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @05:14AM (#14191905)
The genocide of the Armenians and Pontic Greeks a couple of decades before WW2 was a major influence on Hitler. The Greeks had been in the area of the Black Sea for 'only' three thousand years, so they were not local according to the Ottomans.
Re:WikiTribune – Evidence-based journalism on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @04:18AM (#14191673)
Wikipedia was the original fake news. For instance, someone might edit an article to say that a person was a known political extremist. Someone else might write an article (not on Wikipedia) saying the same thing (after having read the Wikipedia article). Years later, if the information is questioned on Wikipedia, then editors will add a reference to the off-wiki article, and everyone will be happy. Circular fake news, with truth going down the plughole. The entropic heat death of information.

I've looked at large articles I contributed to a few years ago and they are now disasters. Full of bowdlerisation, inconsistent style, and false snippets of information. I think the abusive nature of many Wikipedia admins, and the hostility of Wikipedia itself to knowledge, will eventually just make it a 4chan with pretentions.

Re:Yad Vashem's database of Holocaust victims' names on Tuesday April 25, 2017 @04:13AM (#14191653)
Apparently, remembering gypsies and other groups 'diminishes the memory' of the holocaust because they were just 'political prisoners': http://nypost.com/2009/06/08/hikind-jews-only/
Re:Lyrebird – An API to copy the voice of anyone on Monday April 24, 2017 @08:21AM (#14183653)
I wonder if you could do this with singing? Feed it acappela Bowie, Sinatra, Elvis songs, then give it new text, and out comes a similar voice and melody.

I can't wait for Richard Burton to read me the news.
Re:Why is Russia so good at encouraging women into tech? on Friday April 21, 2017 @09:42AM (#14165491)
The usual 'Not enough woman in STEM' argument is made by trivial and narcissistic Westerners.

The reason why women in Iran, Russia, Romania etc choose STEM and woman in Sweden and the US don't is because it is deadly serious which profession they choose. The same seriousness in not in evidence in the West. In the US, people (often from rich families) are spending tens of thousands to study trivial subjects. Americans are infantilised to such a degree that they unable to recognise their infantilisation.

The same impetus is seen in all the tech people from India. Do you think they are all really interested in Richard Stallman? No, they just need to eat.

Re:Why I love Swedish taxes on Thursday April 20, 2017 @02:32PM (#14159439)
High taxes are only happily paid in a homogenous society. The tax you pay goes to people like you, who go through the same kind of life as you. In less homogenous societies, the thought of the taxpayer is "that money is going to be wasted by someone who is not like me"
Re:PhantomJS: Stepping down as maintainer on Thursday April 13, 2017 @07:11AM (#14105824)
Can you give me more details? Is it like some automated stock control system which orders from Amazon when stock is low?
