LLMs made it REALLY easy to setup a self hosting server and maintaining it. I literally use all of these now daily.

Ask HN: What are some good AI usage policies?
I am looking into different AI usage policies in Open Source software. One good example is Ghostty: https://github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty/blob/main/AI_POLICY.mdI just want to get inspired and get as much pros/cons as possible to form and write my own!

Show HN: Workledger – Your offline first engineering notebook
I saw this HN thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46949814) and though to myself: I always wanted to start a proper Engineering notebook. And I didn't love any online version, and my handwriting is too slow and messy for taking notes during meetings.Well, after reading the comments, I built this in about 6h, and probably keep developing it further. It's Open Source as well.
EDIT: Also, turns out the in-browser Editor landscape got GOOD the last few years apparently. It's really just plug and play. I remember 5 years I tried to do this and it was painful.
All local first. Happy to get some contributors :)
I just wish this post wasn’t written by an LLM! I miss the days where you can feel the nerdy joy through words across the internet.

Ask HN: What's the most open/hacker friendly Android phone for 2026?
I am a long time Apple user, but their software keeps getting buggier, worse and I just want to switch. I moved all my data to self hosting solutions, so I all I need now is an Android phone which… is fun? Like Framework Computer fun.Are there still community based OSes out which I can flash onto a phone? Last time I had an Android phone was 2013.
A fun side effects I got from this: Now I can see my ideas fully fleshed out, and realised that, a), most of these ideas are stupid and better solved by existing solutions , or b), that the code was never the problem but tweaking the UI or user facing part to really hone in the problem I am trying to solve!

Ask HN: How to get ChatGPT perform as well as Claude?
I am using Claude AI for most of my daily tasks. I bounce ideas off, let it write an implementation I had thought of and quickly want to see how it would look like implemented etc.Mostly, 4-5 sentence prompts plus attaching the whole codebase is enough.Trying to use ChatGPT is a nightmare (I use o3 and the mini-high models). The same prompt doesnt perform at all. ChatGPT sometimes doesn’t even...
Ask HN: Which framework/book to get started into GameDev?
I am a seasoned engineer, worked up and down the stack (from mainframes to servers and frontends). I always liked playing games as well.I am looking for a new "hobby", or something I can continuously build and improve, without it being another web application.I can do Go, Rust, Python, JavaScript. A bit of C. But no C#, C++.I know of Unity, but I haven't find a clear: That's the path for a...
