Re:Ask HN: Has Apple lost its way? Is their decline imminent? on Wednesday September 30, 2015 @01:48PM (#10305732)
You are right. From business perspective they are diversifying and making its bigger and better. Which in all fairness is fine. I was mostly talking about decline in consumer sentiment due to its focus more on selling rather than satisfying customer. I am hearing this from die- hard Apple fans and that is concerning
HR at google will try to negotiate no more than 10-15% for your offer(if this is entry to mid level position) If you really want to negotiate a better offer, you will to include not just your base but your package including stocks, benefits etc in your package to give them a holistic number. Base salary is only a piece which usually get 10-15% boost, but other benefits usually get ignored. You can negotiate on these both to get what you intend to negotiate with

Ask HN: Has Apple lost its way? Is their decline imminent?

I have been hearing a lot of complaints, issues all around the news and people I meet or talk to about decline in Customer service, brand equity, confidence, brand affinity etc. Are people losing confidence in Apple and with coming devices like watch, car, VR etc from Apple, do you think the decline is going to accelerate?I used to love apple and its philosophy and products. it is no longer...

Ask HN: What is the next revolution in Smartphone could look like?

Smartphones have revolunized the way we communicate. Wonder what will our kids use. Sure I am not saying wearables or IoT but smartphones in the next 5-7 years. is it possible to reimagine a Smartphone from scratch? Reason I am asking is, I am currently creating ideas to rethink how future smartphones should look like..

Re:Ask HN: What do you think of modular smart phones? on Thursday August 20, 2015 @07:29PM (#10095207)
Big Flop. Modular smartphones provide iterative benefit not revolutionary. Until you have revolutionary breakthrough in product (more software than hardware since hardware is easy to be cloned), these will remain as toys.
Re:Ask HN: How should we split the equity? on Thursday August 20, 2015 @07:27PM (#10095203)
Sounds more like a Quora question. Lot of such questions could be answered on that forum. Try checking it out. Plus, its not always easy to start a startup and have name tags to your roles. If you are doing that, you have missed the most fundamental part of startup101. but i know a lot of startups still do that, and I don't like that.
Re:Ask HN: After 20 years of programming, what do I do now? on Thursday August 20, 2015 @07:25PM (#10095192)
To give you a philosophical answer. People usually have two situations in life where they make such decision. One where Passion wins and other where Salary(benefits). Almost overtime Passion gives job satisfaction over Passion unless you deal with Finance areas like Stocks, bonds, insurance, investment etc You are want to work for Passion, you would have to focus on what is relevant in coming future and align your interest with that. There will be fit somewhere. Once you do that, build a portfolio for the future. Not what you know, Not what you have but what you want to be known for.

Hope this helps

Re:Snapchat lost $128M during the first 11 months of 2014 on Thursday August 20, 2015 @07:21PM (#10095182)
I don't think it matters at this moment. They are on a well good trajectory which is only going to change when they decide to go for IPO. Till then, Snapchat is Uber (the growth machine) for Early stage investors to get benefits in IPO based on eyeballs it collects as retention

Ask HN: Is it worth buying existing smartwatches? Or these will eventually fade?

With the slew of smart watches (that exactly look similar to each other) like FOSSIL, MOTO360, SAMSUNG GEAR, and APPLE Watch, why do you guys think I should stop wearing my traditional watch collection and start wearing a smartwatch? Am I alone who is thinking this way or everyone has accepted the smartwatch revolution? if not, why not, if yes why yes?

Re:Where to meet founders? When to seek funding? on Sunday August 16, 2015 @04:06PM (#10070092)
I am not sure what your idea is, but there are lot of assumptions you are making. 1. You are assuming you will get funding in near future 2. You are assuming you will get employees once you get funding 3. You are assuming your idea + execution will make it big

Let me tell you 99.9% of people have same belief about what they do or ideate. I can't be a better judge of what idea you have or your execution policy. Good idea to start this off is to build relationships (people, engineers, investors). Don't ask for money, ask for advice. Don't try to recruit, try to influence. Don't go to metopes, organize one...these will lead you to right foundations for your startup

Re:Meeting Technical Co-Founders on Monday August 10, 2015 @06:39PM (#10037939)
Technical folks are driven by challenges. If you really want to meet or know technical people, you have to yourself start working on "impossible" task. Once you struggle, you can ask online community to help. Some of them might help and then you can take this conversation forward. building relationship is the hardest thing and it takes time. Many a times, you might miss the market by the time you have built relationship. So it can't be the only thing you are doing. No body likes to join a ship going nowhere.... create a map, treasure hunt plan, buy a ship and then ask people to come join you along your pursuit
Yes, we could do that to gain traffic and momentum. However we are trying to figure our product/market fit first. We want to make sure that we can make people fall in love with our solution before we go out for strategic relationships and traffic. We don't want to bet on traffic numbers and want to make something people want(easier said than done). We want to genuinely build a community for people who care about immersive communication
Yes, thats true. This is the nature of any new technology adoption curve. Everything starts with figuring out the target market. We are also stuck in the same phase. We are on a mission to bridge the gap between real world and virtual world. We are trying to reach our audience, but still struggling

Ask HN: What is the best way to get attention of VR early adopters?

We are working on VR app that we think will change the way people interact via immersive communication on-the-go. We want to genuinely build a audience that cares about the problem of immersive communication. We think our target audience is between age 15-30 yrs as they care about better communication. Since we are not competing with HMD or Magic Leap etc we don't really think HMD market should...

Re:Ask HN: Kickstart-sharing on Wednesday July 22, 2015 @01:20PM (#9930958)
Thats pretty cool! would love to share that list with some of my entrepreneur friends that need them. You can share dropbox link if you like.
Our main considerations were: 1. Local (SF Bay area) 2. Good background in AI and Game engine/apps 3. VR experience is desired not necessary 4.Loves to solve unsolvable problems of future 5. Good cultural fit
Siggraph and GDC is a mess... its hard to talk to people let alone finding good developers. I have tried to find folks but could not. Obviously we are no Oculus or Valve to afford booth or have ads yet. It would be good to reach out via those mechanisms once we grow
I have been trying that.. thanks for advice.. will keep trying harder.

Ask HN: Anyone has experience of running startup and becoming To-Be-DAD soon

I am running my "yet to be launched" startup and found out this great news about becoming Dad next year. Can not be more excited than that. I want to make sure I can do the best for the baby and also focus on the startup(which is also my baby) Any one has similar experience or any advice they can give for To-be-Dad?

( Read More... | 7 comments | 4 points | on HN )
Sure, but single customer idea is mostly to give an idea of how to approach this problem. You are right about subjectively 1 customer should not determine the direction of product. Mostly don't ask for feedback to your closest friends and family
