I appreciate the response. Machine learning is something I might be interested in and it looks like they're doing some sweet things with it.

Ask HN: Selling a Star Wars related domain?

For a project in my English class last year, I bought the domain name http://starwarsproject.com/.I was surprised it was available, but it helped me get an A on the project. Now that it's getting close to expiring, I'm wondering if it's possible/worth it to sell it, and how I would go about doing so if I was going to?

Re:Ask HN: How do I get people to try my (free) service? on Tuesday July 24, 2012 @11:04AM (#4285963)
As a first impression from viewing the site, I didn't understand what it was offering. It mentions social sharing, but it wasn't until I read over the copy a few times that I actually understood that your service will takes new content from a website and post links to that content on social media sites and newsletters. I agree with what other people are saying, try to make it clearer what you're offering.

How did you build it up to that level?
That's true. I think another way the video distinguishes good projects from bad ones it that it takes planning to make a good video. It's not something that just happens overnight, and the projects that take the time to plan out a great video also tend to be projects that planned out a great product/marketing plan.
Wow, that's a great Kickstarter page. Really polished pictures and interesting descriptions. Not too much text either. They let their product do the talking.

One of the things I underestimated with mine was how important it is to not only have a video, but to make it look professional. I think the video is where products either shine or are tossed into the "mediocre" category in a potential backers mind.

Re:Five Tips for Startups to Attract Media/Blog Coverage on Thursday July 19, 2012 @11:14AM (#4266356)
I've found that building a relationship is crucial. I think a company blog can help with that a lot. If you're already publishing things, commenting on others' blogs and getting your name out there, bloggers are going to be much more receptive to you.

If you don't have time for all that though, targeting bloggers whose readers would be interested in your product is great. It's a win-win for both of you.

Ask HN: What does it take to launch a successful Kickstarter Campaign?

My first ever Kickstarter campaign failed two weeks ago. It was disappointing, but I learned a lot about what I did wrong and what I could have done better. For example: Timing. I was trying to launch a summer clothing brand, but due to Amazon Payments delays the Kickstarter page didn't launch until mid-June. This forced me to move back delivery times, and turned a lot of customers away. Choose...

Ask HN: Tool for Reducing Eye Strain?

I'm a computer science student who used to have 20/20 vision and lately I've found that my distance vision is becoming blurry. I think the problem is the amount of time spent staring at a computer screen (computer vision syndrome), and am wondering if anyone has any advice or tools they use to help avoid this?
