I'm curious about your reasoning to provide an API to potentially other companies that could offer payroll service. Do you see this as financially better than providing the service directly yourselves?

I developed the Electrician Calculator Pro, a National Electrical Code compliant calculator for engineers, electricians, lighting designers, etc:

I first created the Android version about 3 years ago, then the iOS version about 1 year ago. It currently makes just enough to cover some bills, although I believe it has a greater potential. I'm currently looking for ways to make this a recurring revenue stream instead of a one time payment gig.

The above article seems like a good point of view. Basically achieving the top 1% is an ideal that's sold to us but very very unlikely to become reality. A much better approach would be to find contentment in what you're doing.

Wow that seems like a lot for angel funding. Even 20% seems like a lot for an angel round.

They're not stealing my data. I gladly give it to them.

I can do the reminders part with my Google calendar. I can specify when to remind me (say 1 week before and 1 day before) and how (email, sms).

This isn't passive.
Re:The Odds are You're Going to Fail on Wednesday October 09, 2013 @06:21PM (#6524279)
This is why it's a bad idea to be a technical cofounder for something you're not passionate about. It will most likely fail, and you'll be out of a ton of programming hours with nothing to show. At least if you're being paid you can go home with a paycheck each month.

Re:Bruce Schneier has changed his PGP key to 4096 bits on Thursday September 12, 2013 @08:34PM (#6377882)
I know the fundamental idea behind PGP and related technologies. My question is, if bumping his key from 2048 to 4096 bits will keep him safe until around the year 2020 (as stated by a previous reader, and from keylength.com), why not just use a 8192 bit key, or 16384 bit key and be safe for virtually your lifetime?

Does the computing cost to encrypt/decrypt make this impractical?

And an even better feature would be monospaced font + code coloring. I bet there is some open-source lib that could do that.
It would be useful if you had some idea of who your public is. Then you could place some (hopefully unobtrusive) affiliate links for some product/service of their interest.
Do you have any monetization plans?
I need to be able to use a monospaced font.
Well, it IS true.
Re:Ask HN: Those with intense focus, how do you do it? on Tuesday April 16, 2013 @01:24AM (#5556424)
Somewhere I read that you should use the 1-3-5 rule: each day do 1 big task, 3 medium and 5 small. However personally I prefer using 1-2-3.

Mobclix owes thousands to indie app developers

Just when I thought I was the exception, it seems a lot of indie developers are fighting to get their payments from Mobclix. This has been going on for months. Some revealing links:This forum thread started June 2012 and is still quite active: http://iphonedevsdk.com/forum/business-legal-app-store/105160-mobclix-payments-so-late-this-month.htmlA class action suit. A video would be useful. I skim read too much to actually get how the animation is supposed to look like.
You're welcome.
Re:Wally - holds your plastic cards on Wednesday March 27, 2013 @09:22AM (#5449206)
Yep. A lot of my loyalty cards also have a bar code on the back which can be scanned. So I believe this would work as well.

Nice UI. I need something like this for Android... Are there any recommended? I've been meaning to make it myself but just haven't made the time.
