Securely indeed means "customers can't run away with my ipad while my back is turned" as can be seen in the pictures on the Heckler Design website:

Re:The Vim Beginners’ Site on Sunday December 30, 2012 @02:21PM (#4986781)
"Games that teach VIM" category was created for VIM Adventures. It has an outdated information there. VIM Adventures now includes saving games. It should also add that currently there are 10 levels consisting of 30 shorcuts for the paid $9.90 version.
Re:Google threatened Acer with Android excommunication on Thursday September 13, 2012 @02:05PM (#4517650)
Speculation: Google starting from Jelly Bean (or after Jelly Bean), is going to give early source code access to OEM partners. If Acer is going to work on Aliyun some of those early access code could land into Aliyun, which Google does not want?
Re:There is something magical about Firefox OS on Thursday September 13, 2012 @11:43AM (#4516738)
Any developer version that we could buy? I don't mind if we have to pay more. Need to test this for Burma market.

Edit: Didn't read carefully. You already mentioned that developer versions would be available worldwide soon. Any mailing list to subscribe for the announcement?

Re:The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Mediocre Entrepreneurs on Sunday August 19, 2012 @03:11PM (#4404842)
I remember my course at a TV and Radio Repair training shop. They emphasize a lot that you need to learn and memorize where all the screws go on popular models. If your client sees you trying to figure out where the screws are, they won't trust you no matter how good you are with the electronics inside.
I think the key here is that phones were for a long time "embeded devices". It is protected platform that can not be 'tinkered' with. This was how iPhone 1.0 was. That is point one to ponder.

Point two: Original intent of sales. iPhones and Android and other phones are sold as a smart phone. As long as it is not sold as a computer, the vendors are free to dictate what is possible and what is not.

NB: While Android does has third party browsers, it should be noted that the default Browser.app can not be recreated using the Android SDK as it relies on private APIs.

Re:Learning VIM while playing a game on Monday April 23, 2012 @07:48AM (#3878301)
Right when the second level ends, it says "You learned some word navigation and managed to get here. But you have to buy a license to unlock the rest of the game and continue learning VIM!"

It is not free.

Re:Ask HN: MarkMonitor whois server hacked? on Saturday April 21, 2012 @03:25AM (#3871208)
Can others run whois against various domains runned by MarkMonitor such as apple.com, google.com, microsoft.com and see if the entries are all hacked?

Ask HN: MarkMonitor whois server hacked?

Running whois from a console for domains managed by MarkMonitor is showing a lot of spam entries. Checking whois though www.markmonitor.com website itself seems to be fine. Here is what I am getting:>whois apple.com Server Name: APPLE.COM.ZON.COM IP Address: 17.172.224.47 Registrar: DOMAINREGISTRY.COM, INC. Whois Server: nswhois.domainregistry.com Referral URL:...

Re:Android 2.3 Platform on Monday December 06, 2010 @06:52PM (#1977357)
There are indeed locales, but no indic support. While for some strange reason Android got Indic locale, specifically Hindi, there is no support for it in terms of rendering and the built in font does not contain any Indic. Pretty wierd stuff as the Input Language selector is just showing Square Boxes for Hindi and after setting locale to Hindi all numerals are just square boxes. The Arabic support is also spotty as currently Android Gingerbread just doest not have any shaper for these complex scripts.
Re:The Truth about $35 Android Tablet from Indian Government on Tuesday September 14, 2010 @12:31PM (#1691143)
Bad choice of Mobile OS for the government. Android does not support Indian Languages, no Complex Text Layout in it. Should have went with MeeGo.
Re:The $35 indian tablet isn't vaporware on Sunday September 12, 2010 @12:30PM (#1683935)
It is ironic that the Indian Tablet would run an OS that does not support it's languages (Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, Gurumukhi, Bengali, the list goes on). Perhaps they should take on Microsoft's offer of running CE on it for free.
Re:Executive Leaves Apple After iPhone Antenna Troubles on Sunday August 08, 2010 @02:04PM (#1585762)
Jobs really spend a large amount of time on the Antenna during launch. And he ended up looking pretty bad, and someone must have been responsible for making him think he could go ahead and talk about in during launch. If he had known about these issues I am sure he would never have dedicated a full 5 minutes on this 'magical antenna design'. Perhaps he never said anything about the antenna, than the reports might have been different. Jobs himself put the this under the microscope.
